I saw this when I was little and ate it up! I believed in mermaids for way longer than a child should lol...It also didn't help that my mom told me she was a mermaid and my Grandpa caught her in his net....I believed everything my mother said Ohhhh good times!

Yeah great show! They breath from the hoses and there is also an air bell under the stage. They can swim under there and change and breath. Kinda like turning a glass upside down and pushing it underwater. But air is pumped down there. It's all pretty cool. I went scuba diving there today and went in the air bell!

Its really not as easy as you think it is. You have to be able to hold your breath for at least 45sec at start. Then after that you have to be able to hold your breath for a minimum of 3min. You go through six months of training in the winter. Yes, that means getting in the water in the winter. Give them some credit at least.

its really not as easy as you think it is. we train for 6months in the winter. its quite cold. it takes a lot of practice as well. so please before you say anything think about what they had to go through. its not as easy as you think. i mean can you hold your breath for 3min without any air?

they have these tubes under the water in various places. Airhoses.

Lots of training. Being that we have airtubes to breath with its just a lot of training and knowing how not to lett out too much air at any given moment.

there is air tubes for us to breath. singing wise. umm there are ppl in the back room that sing into microphones and sing we just mouth the words. its a lot of training and its cold at first but you get used to it. Training during the winter was the worst. It was fun though and I wouldnt have traded it for anything.

Peple in the theateer can talk to the swimmers via the microphones, however the swimmers signal their resonse.

she is wrong. there are people in the theater that can speak to the swimmers through microphones and we signal a response. but as far the singing part she is wrong. flboy1982 is correct. i am a swimmer there. and he is correct.

This is pretty much all there is to do in Weeki Wachie . The Mermaid show and the Wallmart is pretty much it for the good times department in Weekie .

THe water is fresh water, it doesn't burn like a chlorinated pool or a body of salt water would.

It is 98% pure water they are swimming in. you can drink it from a glass at the main spring there.

i remember when i first heard of the weeki wachee mermaid show, it was on a kids show in the mid to late 90's. iv always wanted to be a mermaid and if i go to weeki wachee springs (and qualify) i can be one!!!

Look closely, you will see them putting a hose to their mouths. They are breathing from an air hose.
