Very soulful and inspiring. Love the tone of your voice and the arrangement. Glad to hear this. Sometimes on youtube we search and search for things to inspire us, this is one of them. Clean simple and brilliant! Made me stop in my tracks and play it over and over.
@15381472 very similar, but the AMI is lower quality. i think some AMI's have solid tops, but i was told that most are laminate tops. that'd be the biggest difference. the spec pages for s n p and a n l could probably explain the differences better than i could. thanks for the kind words!
This is so good - I've recorded this on my MP3 player so I can listen anytime and play it to my friends. I hope you don't mind - it really is exceptional and I could never tire of hearing it.
WOW this is really wonderful. I really REALLY think this is beautiful? What version is this? What I mean is, where did you hear this arrangement or did you do it yourself?
@alejandro8888 Thanks. Glad you like it. This is my own arrangement, but I'd have to say that Paul Rishell's version influenced me as much as Charley Patton's.
S & P recommends going no higher than medium gauge on the model I own (maybe for all the guitars...). I use D'addario mediums with a .014 for the first string (for more slide volume). I generally only play slide on this guitar. If I were gonna play it in standard I'd probably prefer light strings. Thanks for the kind words!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm just not a big fan of ratings. If I were to rate this myself, I'd give it less than 5* for sure. But I'm my own worst critic I guess... I've never played music to seek approval. I did get a bunch of 5* ratings before I disabled that function. But people's comments always meant more to me.
I've had it for a year and a half now and I still love it, but my National gets a lot more attention. The S n P doesn't do it for me in standard tuning, but I love the cedar topped tone for bottleneck playing. I'd rather have a vintage Stella, but this'll do for now. ;-)
Thanks, Knuck. This is the most contemporary soundin' thing I do, the one I'm most self-conscious of, and the one I get the most compliments on. Hmmm... Glad you dug it.
Hello - Who knows how I came upon you - but I did. My name is Robert Chilvers and I live in Canada. Your music touched me deeply - it did - I am 58 and no newcomer to this sound and its feeling.
I listened to you and your guitar on that Stella is perfect - but it is your VOICE that is the killer thing. You are so very lucky to have that voice. Wish I did! I can play just like you do - but my voice is just not there - you lucky dog!
I've been listening to and corresponding with with this fella (Mike) for a while now and I really don't think he knows what he has. I agree with with you Rob, this music cuts right through to the soul.
Wonderful! Real nice relaxed tempo. Great singing too. Basically, the only major difference in our versions is the tempo. We both seem to be following the same chord progression. Thanks for sharing. How about Elder Brown?
Much thanks, Keni!! Compliments from youtube heavyweights like you and daddystovepipe mean a lot! Check out Paul Rishell's beautiful version if you haven't already. He inspired the relaxed tempo in my version.
I think you mean "Elder Green", no? I haven't tackled that one yet, but I'd like to. A local Portland, OR guy named Rollie Tussing does an excellent version of that in standard key of C. I'll give it a whirl someday.
ever since i got it, i've had this thing tuned down a whole step low of open D (open C, but not the CGCGCE that Fahey and some others used). light strings won't cut it for that. these are cheapo d'addario mediums with a .014 for a 1st string (to help with sliding). S&P warned me not to tune to standard with this set, so i don't. i love it right where it is in that low C tuning.
you probably payed a higher price because this is a canadian made guitar and u bought it in the USA, I could be wrong but this eems to be the explanation
reckon so. i definitely coulda saved some dough online, but i wanted to try it out first. the store owner thought i was crazy as i played almost every S n P parlor he had. for some reason this one just sounded a wee bit better to me. i had my eyes on the A n L parlor, but once i heard the cedar topped S n P... i had to have one. :D

Sweet!
I have the same S&P except in the Dreadnaught series. Excellent sounding, well made guitars -
Did you know that the cedar tops for these guitars are cut from an 800 year old cedar tree. producing that sweet sound.
I also paid $500.
I use,
Martin SP,PH lights #4100- 12>54 very good strings on this guitar

im trying to figure out if this is the same S&P i saw at a music store :P was this around the $300 price range? its an amazing tone you got there =D
DMFan922 3 years ago
i paid $500. tag price was $600. better prices can be found online, but i wanted to support a local music store (artichoke music in portland, or).
$300 seems exceptionally cheap, but they mighta gone down some. art and lutherie parlors are made by the same company. they're in the $2-300 range.
i highly recommend the cedar topped S and P. much thanks for the kind words. this guitar makes it easy. :0)
good luck with your search.
