  • So if the blade is 3" then it must be legal in public in California riiiiiight?

  • @Trebgah

I am not the most well versed in Cali laws to be honest, but I believe so.

  • I would totally buy it if it was bigger :p

  • It's a very good balisong... I do recommend it if you get the chance to buy one.

  • 7 hours in holding, 30 hours of community service and a 250$ fine taught me just how legal butterfly knives were in NY.. Wont stop me from buying this knife eventually though hahahaha... Luckily the one that the fuzz STOLE from me was like a 20$ piece of shit that i only carried for tricks.

  • Ouch man... well that sucks! I hate that stupid law regarding balis and autos... makes no sense to me, especially since I have many more "legal" blades that come out much faster than either of those.

  • @X4CTO Yeah man your absolutely right.. You can loosen the bolt on 90% of folding knives and flip it out faster than a bali.. Hell usually they even come with the wrench/ Screwdriver you need to do it.. What i find even more retarded is that lets say i had a license to carry a concealed HANDGUN. If i got pulled over w/ a handgun in my dash board AND a Butterfly knife I WOULD STILL get arrested for the knife and i wouldn't get in trouble at all for the GUN!

  • Right indeed!

I agree... very retarded... and I've made that point regarding concealed carry in a few of my past videos. I mean I carry my .45 or .40 daily and that's all good... but my little 3" Smallfly balisong could get me arrested... that epitomizes the word "retarded" LOL! Seems to me if your state trusts you with a loaded firearm then they should do the same with a damn butterfly or automatic knife... just makes no sense whatsoever!

  • BTW im not at all implying that i think gun laws are too loose Hahaha... just that a country where a person can legally carry a handgun concealed shouldn't really have absurd KNIFE laws.. i mean seriously seems a little silly.. Even if they made it so you couldn't own certain knives until you were 21 or if you needed to take a course or something whatever... They shouldn't just be illegal.

  • Oh no... I got what you were saying exactly, I feel the same.

I'll take the 21 age limit... for guns and certain knives, seems reasonable... but to outlaw them altogether... just silly indeed. Not to mention and 18 year old can buy a shotgun, which I'm pretty sure can wreak much more havoc, if desired, than a knife. I am an advocate of people having to take classes for carrying firearms, that's a good thing in my opinion... if you can hit what you aim at, please don't pull the trigger!

  • But to deny someone the right to have an item is to say that the person in question is not suitable to have that item... it's like being labeled as guilty without any reasonable suspicion. The word "unconstitutional" comes to mind here. As if having a balisong or auto knife would suddenly make a criminal out of whoever has it... either way, we're kicking a dead horse here it seems... unfortunately others don't share our views on this topic.

  • @X4CTO Hell yeah I share your views!

  • @Trebgah

    Thank you my friend.

  • If one is used to a traditional balisong shape (straight, metal handles), how is the flipping experience different and do you prefer traditional handles or the spyderfly's handles?

    Thanks

  • The Spyderco balisong handles do take a little getting used to after coming from a straight, traditional style handle (metal or otherwise)... but nothing to unfamiliar. Since the Spyders have the holes near the ends of the handles, I find that certain flips and latch drop type openings can be easier on them. Really I think if you're used to flipping a balisong in general then you can easily adapt to the slightly curved handles of the Spyderco relatively easy. At least this was the case with me.

  • By the way... I prefer the G-10 slabbed handles on the Benchmade 32 and 51 Morpho personally... they're my overall favorite. Then I would have to say the G-10 slabbed handles on the Smallfly... lastly would be metal handles (titanium or steel). I just prefer the texture of G-10 to the feel of smooth metal, but I can flip them all.

  • aye man are you lookin forward to sellin any of your quality balisongs

  • Not right now... I'm holding on to all my knives.

  • i have the same one :D

    got it today :)

  • That's cool, congrats on the new balisong... it's a nice one... enjoy it :)

  • @X4CTO

    thx :) i am haha

but is this one hard to get everywhere? I was lucky to get this one, but I would not know where to buy another one... isn't this edition legal? in the states i mean?

  • You're welcome.

It's not too hard to get in the U.S. right now... but balisongs are illegal to transport and carry in some states, just really depends each state's laws. In my state they are illegal to carry with you, but not illegal to purchase. In some places they are illegal to own at all.

  • Yeah thanks a lot man. Please post the comment with the link if you get it up. It looks like the morpho just flips a lot faster and easier. My only problem with that is it might be harder to control because of that.

  • I just made a video with my thoughts on them... I need to get it edited and uploaded and I will send you let you know as soon as it's live.

I don't think the faster and easier flipping should be a problem, should actually be better because less friction and more smoothness means that your techniques will play out without you having to force the knife's momentum.

  • I checked the laws where I live, and it seems to be legal to carry a balisong. Would you recommend the smallfly or the 32 morpho? I sadly can't get both, so I need to pick one or the other.

  • Well there's a lot of different factors that might lean you towards one or the other, but I will tell you right now that I like the 32 Morpho much more personally. The 32 flips better and smoother for me. I love the Smallfly too, don't get me wrong, but I prefer the 32. I could actually do a comparison video real fast and try to get it up tonight on here. Makes sense, since they are both small balisongs that would work well for EDC.

  • I'm thinking about EDC knife, this would be OK i think.

  • Yes sir! This would make a great EDC, compact and lightweight with just enough blade to be very effective. Would make a great choice in my opinion. Oh and the 154cm steel is a great EDC steel too.

  • Thats an awesome spyderco knife man i might be getting either a spyderco or a benchmade for my next knife. I love both of those knifes. Those ballisongs are totally legal where i live you can carry Any Knife you want i looked that shit up.

  • Thank you.

If you're trying to choose between Spyderco and Benchmade, that's a hard one... that's always the problem I have when looking between those two brands. I do have a couple of Benchmade knife review videos I'm going to upload tonight however.

Here in Texas you can't carry a balisong or automatic... that's OK though, my Spyderco Waved Endura comes out faster than any of those anyway.

  • @X4CTO YEA i love the Wave design i definately want one of those they are by far the fastest deployiing knife on the market today and i dont think they will ever make a faster one and that sucks that its illegal to carry a ballisong thats people and the perception thing right there if you ask me.

  • Waved knives are by far my preference for self defense carry... you're right, I can't think of how they could make a folding blade any faster.

  • FUDGE

  • @X4CTO

I know! Thats why i want to buy one from somebody

  • I understand, I'm sure you can find them online some places still. I just don't sell my knives that often.

  • @X4CTO

    U wanna sell ur bm42?

  • I'm not really selling any of my knives right now, especially my 42. The 42 has been discontinued and is getting much harder to come by.

  • Yeah i can see loving a knife. I dropped my 51 in my garage yesterday and almost cried! Haha ps love the video

  • I've taken a few minor cuts on the hand grabbing at my Benchmade 42 that was about to fall to the ground.

    Thank you.

  • Can i purchase your 32 off you? I have a 51 and would like a "little brother" to it! So can i buy it?

Ps, lifes short, stay sharp made me laugh

  • Sorry bro, I love the 32 too much to sale it... it's my favorite balisong right now.

Blade Play has them right now for around $200 and they'll beat any price if it's lower... they're good people over there.

Life short, stay short is my motto... I try to live like that too.

  • Nice opinion on the knife, I really like your videos. :)

  • Thank you very much... I'll keep trying to come up with good ones.
