is there any difference in the symptoms of bad wheel bearings or bad tie rods? is the play any different? Mine has some play, about 1/4 inch.

Wheel bearing shakes in every dimension, tie-rod is horizontal only.

I love the feel of rack/pinion steering, but i wont upgrade from my 1994 Sierra's centerlink steering... so much easier to replace the front-end parts haha...
