this is great, you played it beautifully. i'm re-learning this right now - haven't played it in years. should have the whole thing down in the next few days. can't wait. it's such a beautiful song! cheers
Good job I played that for a talent show keep practicing your thumb on your right hand is a bit to close to the rest of your fingers that's whats causing those double notes but good job keep on playin
He is playing on the beautiful "practice" piano of the 1948 Acrosonic Baldwin Spinet, which I find to be beautiful. Yes, everyone's a critic, a music teacher, whatever, but this is far and beyond what I could ever dream of playing on any piano, and I applaud him for his playing. Bravo! Good job (to my pitchless ears). Hugs.
Excellent but too fast and played with absolutely no emotion... Accomplished and acceptable but please play like you mean it!!! Not bad though old boy!
well done! bravo! the tempo is pretty good and you brought out the melody very well! I feel like it got a little bit too loud on the crescendoes but it's very tricky when the music says to press deeply into the keys yet keep the song pianissimo! Also, when you have the dotted quarter note with a sixteenth note, think of the sixteenth note as coming right after the last not in your left hand in that measure! Overall, it was fabulous and I enjoyed it a lot!

@MosDefine No matter what people say, I am the harshest critic. Why is that? Well, I am the player. Negativity is just as contagious, but that is not necessarily a good thing is it? Choppy describes your playing. Moonlight Sonata is a slow and majestic piece of music. The music is like looking up at the moon on a perfect quiet night in the country. Not to be too harsh, but your playing made me only envision an unperfect evening in new york city, watching a pool of collected rainwater reflect a choppy mismatched reflection of the moon. I think you might need to understand the true energy of this piece, then try again.
the song you have played is wrong your surposed to play it slowly and becides the song is sort of a deathly theme so don't play it fast because its wrong - btw the rest of the song is very well played

Beautiful. I get the feeling of the music. Keep up the good work, I know how difficult it is to play an instrument. I'm learning the violin. This is beautifully done.
Most people here probably never played piano before commenting, or seem to know how music "should be played". Seriously, people who think there is only one way to play or only perfection in life must think their lives are pretty shitty.

Technically sound and balance between the hands is pretty good! You're obviously an experienced player. But ouch, the arpeggiated chords are very clunky, and the melody is not distinct enough. @Fernball21 I think people tend to forget that the clunkiness is less likely technique, rather how the sound is picking up the player. Also the tonality or depth you are looking for is probably a grand. This is just a practice piano. At 1:24 exactly now that is clunkiness. Is it like that throughout? No. If you take a look at the links I provided in the description. You can also hear how VSTIS can alleviate the clunkiness. Check it out.
sorry mate but u are not sure when u play. u hurt my ears by your play... you;ve done too many mistakes that has nearly destroyed the beauty of this piece of art...
@kruskyouv As I explained @laarf, I did not say I did not played it wrong did I? Am I suppose to say I made an error on my part? Which I did, for that, that is my error. If you want to go to the extent of refuting this video, Please upload a video of you playing the correct version. There are a ton of video links to my video with their own interpretations. Will I take this video down because of this error? Probably not. Its YouTube. If you pay me to do it then I might think twice.
@laarf No you are wrong. Although the interpretation is not "spot on" it is good. Benjamin Zander (among others) went and looked at the original manuscripts that Beethoven himself penned. Do you know what they found? Many of his pieces, most notably the 5th Symphony and Moonlight Sonata, are being played at a slower tempo than he wrote. Furthermore, this piece wasn't even named "Moonlight Sonata". Beethoven had named it "Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia". Please know your facts before criticizing.
in a world full of mouse clicking critics...close ur eyes and chill ... whoevers playing it...however theyre playing it the music remains the same...the tone is melancholic and seducing .. let it be
@xyFAILxy well it is currently set as an anxiety NOS disorder, but one doctor thinks its bipolar disorder. I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder bipolar type disorder for awhile and prior to that psychosis NOS.
@lavamaster530 For the most part he isn't playing it fast enough. The tempo is correct at the very beginning. You need to count the triplets in pairs; the time signature is 2/2. Most people think a 6/8 tempo with a slow waltz feel is the correct way to play it, but it's not. It's supposed to be quick and flowing. Gould's version is played with the correct tempo, for example.
Look at people like Ai Mori of japan eg youtube name morinoroba who is a similar age and in a different class to this, also many others who get hardly any views .
@cherrytime22 Does anyone even pay attention that this video is 4 1/2 years old? Sure there are better performers, but it is very unlikely I am going to repost a newer version. Compare this to my other pieces that I worked very hard on, I spent the least time practicing this piece. Not saying that it doesn't show, but I do have other videos. Instead of concentrating on this piece, I would like to see someone take a look at my other recordings.
Sure thats fine, its an ok performance my only comment is that I am surprised a recording like this attracted so many views when their are so many others that are a lot better, eg world class virtuosos . CrazyForPianosGirl is annoyed at me for stating my opinion, well I am allowed to do that, I am sure that if you wanted only positive commments then you would soon put a comment pending approval on.
Yes I will view some of your other videos when I have a chance.
@cherrytime22 Why so many views? 1. This video is 4 1/2 years old. 2. Typically virtuosos might not use youtube. Instead of posting for free they ask you to go to their concert for money. 3. Youtube channels are typically ordinary people posting videos up. 4. Since the speed is much quicker than most, people might like the faster pace. 5. Just because its a "poor performance", people are attracted to it.
Every1 is entitled to an opinio. If I was offended I would delete this video already.
@cherrytime22 also to mention the speed, when I first posted this video up, I heard it faster than this speed on some classical cd I have at home. I think that is why I chose to play it faster.
Thanks for your reply, well I have many gifted friends that play well and better but dont get this many views.
Your playing is ok , a few notes wrong , my original comment was just that I could not understand the amount of views for something from an amateur player that was not of the highest standard !! I notice that you have some medical conditions ? , so its good that you play music as well as you do.
Ignore troll like swearing and abusive comments from others though !!
@cherrytime22 Yeah, how did you know I had a medical condition? I have schizoaffective disorder bipolar type which is a mixture of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and an anxiety disorder. I think I also have FAS or a mental retardation but I can't seem to get docs to diagnose me with that, yet.
Well I knew about your health condition because it says so on the video you have posted on your site. I think it is wonderful that you can play to this level with the medical problems that you have , a big well done to you !!
@cherrytime22 Oh I could care less about what they do, I hardly respond to my comments on this page, and they don't really bother me. Well like I said I have a lot better videos that I put a lot more work in that don't seem to get the views they deserve, and they happen to be memorized. I recommend that you check a few of them out.
@cherrytime22 but can you play better? maybe you don't even know how to play a c scale. Don't get so worked up, sure he isn't as good as those "others" but to put it on youtube is pretty brave. Stop critiscing when you can't PROVE that you're better. you shouldn't get so worked up and compare him to others.
Worked up ? No merely stating my opinion, that is what the comments are for. Of course we can compare performances with other people who play the same piece, what a silly thing to say that we should not do that !
I have not used foul and abusive language as others do on youtube. Are you a youtube policeman or censor who wishes to prevent the right of others to express their own views and opinions ,whatever they may be.
Ignoring your crass and foul mouthed comment, I would suggest that you are the stupid one by relating the time a video is on youtube to the proportion of views it recieves. There are many high class musical videos by master musicians that have been on youtube for a similar time period with far less views than this mediocre offering. Perhaps learn to express your views without abuse and swearing to show that you are not the ignorant cretan that it makes you appear to be.
Perhaps you can also start swearing and abusing other here who have given negative views. The youtube comments are here to give our own individual thoughts on the videos shown. If the contributer wishes to use censorship and only show positive comments then he can always put on the 'Comment pending approval' option.
Ok ,point taken. But I still wonder why so many Views of a version thats not top class. I think many were like me, because it was such a famous piece of music and seeing so many views you just click onto it to see it. Its not the fault of the person playing it, not everyone can be a virtuoso performer and from what he says he has a serious medical bipolar disorder condition , so all power to him for taking to music and doing a quite ok version .
@cherrytime22 They are just labels. All I can say about myself is that my circadian rhythms are so fragmented that several nights i get 4 or 5 hours a sleep a night. Although its doable, nsomnia has become severely problematic that I am unable to live a productive life. Truth is I am disabled. Currently I live off of SSDI, food stamps and low labor job.
@cherrytime22 Case in point. This piece is 5 years old. Find a piece older than that that has more views. Unlikely. I loaded this when youtube just was breaking out. In terms of sound quality, piano is upright. This particular piano is unable to express touch very well, and camera picks up on all sound. Besides I interpreted this music from the Resident Evil Soundtrack here: youtube.com/watch?v=WDMICnWMJDE You will notice it is quite clangy.
Thanks for your sincere and objective reply. I think that you have explained the reason for the many views on this video by yourself. I hope you continue to play your music and I send my best wishes to you and hope that your medical problems are under control and that you are keeping in a good mental state. Your playing is fine by the way just a few mistakes and you have also explained about the tone. A fine effort by you taking in the many factors involved, well done !!
i enjoy the faster tempo..different spin on the original. i do prefer the slower tempo, but this is still much much better than anything i could ever do. good job :)
well, ok... practice some more. it's expressing, but not precise enough. you stress the binding 16th too wide. listen to german records from the 70ies to get an idea how this should be played. but don't get me wrong, good work so far, carry on!
i thnk u played it wonderfully...faster than the usual but i still enjoyed it very much....i just absolutely love this piece of music...no better creation
Ok.... so you played this piece very fast, but you rushed it and that is why there was no emotion. You need to slow your playing of this piece down so that it will flow and sound better. Some people could answer " well I'd like to see you play it! " Well, as a matter of fact you can. Just visit my channel and watch the video.
good job at reading and playing the notes. However. this song would be better if it was played in 6 minutes, not 5. Slow it down and you'll have it perfect.
@ViVi80 if this tempo sounds like a pop song to you, than this piece is not for you and not about you.
At any speed this piece is moving the deepest parts of me, so it doesn't matter to me if it is played "fast". I don't need to "become depressed" to feel the true emotion behind it. I feel it all the fucking time and I wish I did not. If you think that this is played like a pop song, than you are a happy person and have no real physical idea what this is really about.
Too fast, this music must be played softely because we need to feel every note, this music is sad, more dynamic, and a litlle bit slowly and you go there! Now what Im talkng about, I also play this song! :b
it's little bit faster than the original... and i dunno something else was wrong too...but i think it was because of the low quality audio or your piano sound etc...
But still learning to play it without any mistakes is admirable............
Bad played. Too fast, and u shud tune up that piano, it seems like an old wild west piano! U should distinguish the "ottave" from the "terzine" . Work it out
And this is obviously not fake :S his fingers are moving with the notes on the sheets, goodness, if you didn't know thats how your meant to play piano you read the sheets and play it as you see the sheets, or by ear but this is obviously not fake, please now let the dude play in peace!:) he's awesome tbh!:)
good job.... BUT I DONT FEEL IT! PUT MORE EMOTION INTO IT! AND ULL NAIL IT.... put your self in the song feel it running thru your body and express it!! nice job tho

You people are the most criticizing group I have ever seen. I think you did a good job playing this piece…Keep up the good work.

laarf 10 months ago
@laarf There is nowhere in my description that it says it wasn't wrong, but it explains why I play it at the speed.
ManHoPark 10 months ago
@laarf No you are wrong. Although the interpretation is not "spot on" it is good. Benjamin Zander (among others) went and looked at the original manuscripts that Beethoven himself penned. Do you know what they found? Many of his pieces, most notably the 5th Symphony and Moonlight Sonata, are being played at a slower tempo than he wrote. Furthermore, this piece wasn't even named "Moonlight Sonata". Beethoven had named it "Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia". Please know your facts before criticizing.

Hmm you are playing this a little fast. This is suppose to be played in adagio. Other than that good so far.
lavamaster530 11 months ago
@lavamaster530 For the most part he isn't playing it fast enough. The tempo is correct at the very beginning. You need to count the triplets in pairs; the time signature is 2/2. Most people think a 6/8 tempo with a slow waltz feel is the correct way to play it, but it's not. It's supposed to be quick and flowing. Gould's version is played with the correct tempo, for example.

@CrazyForPianosGirl
Kid ? he is 24 for gods sake !!
Look at people like Ai Mori of japan eg youtube name morinoroba who is a similar age and in a different class to this, also many others who get hardly any views .
cherrytime22 11 months ago
@cherrytime22 Does anyone even pay attention that this video is 4 1/2 years old? Sure there are better performers, but it is very unlikely I am going to repost a newer version. Compare this to my other pieces that I worked very hard on, I spent the least time practicing this piece. Not saying that it doesn't show, but I do have other videos. Instead of concentrating on this piece, I would like to see someone take a look at my other recordings.
ManHoPark 11 months ago
@ManHoPark I enjoyed it, good job :) keep up the good work.
mackayash 11 months ago
@ManHoPark
Yes I will view some of your other videos when I have a chance.
cherrytime22 11 months ago
@cherrytime22 Why so many views? 1. This video is 4 1/2 years old. 2. Typically virtuosos might not use youtube. Instead of posting for free they ask you to go to their concert for money. 3. Youtube channels are typically ordinary people posting videos up. 4. Since the speed is much quicker than most, people might like the faster pace. 5. Just because its a "poor performance", people are attracted to it.
Every1 is entitled to an opinio. If I was offended I would delete this video already.
ManHoPark 11 months ago
@ManHoPark Yo, yeah you. You go play it better and stop bein a f*cking hippercrit. [Your comment wasnt an opinion it was an insault]

RandomExta 10 months ago
@cherrytime22 also to mention the speed, when I first posted this video up, I heard it faster than this speed on some classical cd I have at home. I think that is why I chose to play it faster.
ManHoPark 11 months ago
@ManHoPark
Ignore troll like swearing and abusive comments from others though !!
cherrytime22 11 months ago
@cherrytime22 Yeah, how did you know I had a medical condition? I have schizoaffective disorder bipolar type which is a mixture of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and an anxiety disorder. I think I also have FAS or a mental retardation but I can't seem to get docs to diagnose me with that, yet.
ManHoPark 11 months ago
@ManHoPark
Well I knew about your health condition because it says so on the video you have posted on your site. I think it is wonderful that you can play to this level with the medical problems that you have , a big well done to you !!
cherrytime22 11 months ago
@cherrytime22 Oh I could care less about what they do, I hardly respond to my comments on this page, and they don't really bother me. Well like I said I have a lot better videos that I put a lot more work in that don't seem to get the views they deserve, and they happen to be memorized. I recommend that you check a few of them out.
ManHoPark 11 months ago
@cherrytime22 but can you play better? maybe you don't even know how to play a c scale. Don't get so worked up, sure he isn't as good as those "others" but to put it on youtube is pretty brave. Stop critiscing when you can't PROVE that you're better. you shouldn't get so worked up and compare him to others.
CrazyForPianosGirl 11 months ago
@CrazyForPianosGirl
Worked up ? No merely stating my opinion, that is what the comments are for. Of course we can compare performances with other people who play the same piece, what a silly thing to say that we should not do that !
I have not used foul and abusive language as others do on youtube. Are you a youtube policeman or censor who wishes to prevent the right of others to express their own views and opinions ,whatever they may be.
cherrytime22 11 months ago
@cherrytime22 maybe coz its 5 years old ? stupid shit
nikumuMINA 10 months ago
@nikumuMINA
Ignoring your crass and foul mouthed comment, I would suggest that you are the stupid one by relating the time a video is on youtube to the proportion of views it recieves. There are many high class musical videos by master musicians that have been on youtube for a similar time period with far less views than this mediocre offering. Perhaps learn to express your views without abuse and swearing to show that you are not the ignorant cretan that it makes you appear to be.
cherrytime22 10 months ago
@nikumuMINA
Perhaps you can also start swearing and abusing other here who have given negative views. The youtube comments are here to give our own individual thoughts on the videos shown. If the contributer wishes to use censorship and only show positive comments then he can always put on the 'Comment pending approval' option.
cherrytime22 10 months ago
@cherrytime22 "The youtube comments are here to give our own individual thoughts"
because you were mean i've been too , i'm sorry.
nikumuMINA 10 months ago
@nikumuMINA
Ok ,point taken. But I still wonder why so many Views of a version thats not top class. I think many were like me, because it was such a famous piece of music and seeing so many views you just click onto it to see it. Its not the fault of the person playing it, not everyone can be a virtuoso performer and from what he says he has a serious medical bipolar disorder condition , so all power to him for taking to music and doing a quite ok version .
cherrytime22 10 months ago
@cherrytime22 They are just labels. All I can say about myself is that my circadian rhythms are so fragmented that several nights i get 4 or 5 hours a sleep a night. Although its doable, nsomnia has become severely problematic that I am unable to live a productive life. Truth is I am disabled. Currently I live off of SSDI, food stamps and low labor job.
ManHoPark 10 months ago
@cherrytime22 Case in point. This piece is 5 years old. Find a piece older than that that has more views. Unlikely. I loaded this when youtube just was breaking out. In terms of sound quality, piano is upright. This particular piano is unable to express touch very well, and camera picks up on all sound. Besides I interpreted this music from the Resident Evil Soundtrack here: youtube.com/watch?v=WDMICnWMJDE You will notice it is quite clangy.
ManHoPark 10 months ago
@ManHoPark

Ok.... so you played this piece very fast, but you rushed it and that is why there was no emotion.

Slow it down and you'll have it perfect.

this was meant to be a very dark, brooding and emotional piece. but it's played here like it's a pop song.
ViVi80 1 year ago 36
@ViVi80 if this tempo sounds like a pop song to you, than this piece is not for you and not about you.
At any speed this piece is moving the deepest parts of me, so it doesn't matter to me if it is played "fast". I don't need to "become depressed" to feel the true emotion behind it. I feel it all the fucking time and I wish I did not. If you think that this is played like a pop song, than you are a happy person and have no real physical idea what this is really about.
Valholm 10 months ago
I agree. It's not like you aren't good or anything, but it's much too hasty and without emotion. Don't try to rush it. Have more patience with it.

Too fast, this music must be played softely because we need to feel every note, this music is sad, more dynamic, and a litlle bit slowly and you go there! Now what Im talkng about, I also play this song! :b
themoreone 1 year ago
it's little bit faster than the original... and i dunno something else was wrong too...but i think it was because of the low quality audio or your piano sound etc...
But still learning to play it without any mistakes is admirable............

Essa música sempre trouxe para mim a sensação contraditória de uma tensão querendo irromper e algo quase em paz. E ela é tão contemporânea, pois vivemos num mundo complexo e fragmentado.
