A scream a shout far in the distance Maybe the first or second floor Curtains colouring the windows Never see behind closed doors A silent siege behind politeness Domestic harmony for show Lost in the mirage of a marriage Outside a world she'll never know And as I see through the real you I'm falling Straight into A Thousand broken Mirrors I can't hide And outside the bright lights Can't hide the pain inside And I've broken a thousand mirrors Now it's time
this song tells the tale of Tsoora Shah, who was accused of murdering her husband, after he had beaten and humiliated her for years.
"Who are the ones that are the guilty? / Who are the ones that bear the scar? / We must not leave our sisters bleeding / We sing this song for Tsoora Shah"
@solelimh i guess that's what it says on wiki but that doesn't make it fact--so just guitar or is he contributing keys or layers synths and percussion
I don't care what she interpits the videos to look like she got the music right AND YOU KNOW IT one of the best and spiritual albums i've ever owned COLLABORATIONS by SINEAD O'CONNOR, YEAH THE VIDEO DOESN'T MATCH THE FIERCENESS OF THE SONG BUT IT'S ALL GOOD take another listen to the album MAKE ANOTHER ONE LIKE THIS PLEASE SINEAD
@Szodomma ?????? First: Sinéad O'Connor is a singer, she's a solo artist but likes to cooperate to other artists. Second: Massive Attack? Yes, she had some songs with them, but didn't join. But this song still belongs to Asian Dub Fundation...
Qu'est ce que vous voulez que je vous dise?...c'est bon...c'est un mélange de genres qui va bien!....et entendre cette voix ça file toujours le frisson!
@jaredbradford i am not quite sure how you can understand the beauty/meaning of the song and then say the video is embarrassing. it is a perfect representation of what she is saying through the song.... really you dont see that???
@InfiniteSpiral112358 It has nothing to do with "not seeing" anything. I can assure you, I see what's meant to be seen. I think the song, lyrics, and her voice are stunning. This is a poor video, no question about that. It doesn't do the song justice.
@jaredbradford well i guess we are going to have to agree to disagree. this song addresses all of the emotions, confusion, pain and unspoken rules of not speaking about a truly dysfunctional to even abusive family life. at first they encourage her to speak/be herself, and they happily dance along happily (keeping up charade) but as it starts to become evident that she is speaking of what it is taboo to speak of they become more and more disapproving and judgmental ...(cont)
@jaredbradford (cont 2) and instead of being encouraging they stop listening and some even become angry, and then all goes dark (she is silenced again) and she mouths "what happened" not only to her "happy family" but also to represent the painful confusion of growing up in a family like that. it may be simple but the video definitely shows the song's meaning.
@InfiniteSpiral112358 I didn't need an explanation. I get the concept. I just think it didn't work. As I said, beautiful song, message, lyrics and, of course, brilliant voice. I just think the video failed in its attempt. Just my opinion - no big deal that we disagree. :)
@jaredbradford well as i said, to me the video shows and represent all of the thinks that are wrong within a family that is dysfunctional and/or abusive. i do understand that this IS MY interpretation of the video and i am sure that Sinead would want all of us to get from it what we need/want to get from it. i will not argue about your opinion of the video any further, because there is no reason. and to be clear i was NOT insinuating that you "jut didnt get it" or anything. (cont)
@jaredbradford (cont 2) you absolutely have the right to your opinion... i do apologize if i made you feel insulted or any such thing. and i have no problem with us agreeing to disagree. i have to say that i respect your responses being clear and non insulting, as that is mostly what happens in anonymous internet sites. i thank you for being someone who can have a differing opinion and yet instead of being rude or insulting you disagreed with integrity. thank you.
I'm sort of curious...why was someone's comment of "Kick ass video" rated down? If you're elitist to the point that you find his language offensive, I think there's no hope for you. Good video at any rate.
It is impossible to remain indifferent to hear the songs of Sinéad. Touch the soul, make us reflect, protest, express, verbalize the actions. Thank you for your music, for your voice, for your strength and courage. I hope that one day it can assist here in Brazil.
How interesting / ironic to mis-understand the message the video was trying to express.
"A silent siege behind politeness,
Domestic harmony for show.
Lost in the mirage of a marriage,
Outside a world she'll never know."
Google Tsoora (Zoora's) name as suggested by butteslmao & you may understand why there is a 'domestic / home-made' feel to the vid. Or perhaps not. Anyone familiar with ADF music/gigs & political activity will be more than aware that they champion those with little or no voice.
I can't believe what I saw. They didn't spent one dollar to make this clip. It looks like a home-made video! Horrible clip for an awesome song.
(( Eu não acredito no que eu acabei de ver. Eles não gastaram um dólar para fazer esse clipe. Parece um video caseiro! Clipe horrível de uma música incrível. ))
@howardlol It's deliberate. It's supposed to look homemade. The song is about a victim of domestic abuse who wasn't allowed to leave the home who eventually likked her husband. The whole facade of politeness and happiness when people visit; "A silent siege behind politeness,Domestic harmony for show.
Lost in the mirage of a marriage, Outside a world she'll never know." I think the video fits the song perfectly.
Some people don't have a voice. It's covered by the lies of others. Very few would speak when asked, but those people are over looked. Miss invisible me.
