Ray Davies is about the only guy that I've heard that sings with his accent. A very underplayed and unappreciated group. rock on. Funny my 8 yo [ozzy/stones fan] was rocking out to this and he thought it was a new band...LMAO. gotta love kids xcept when thay laugh at our vinyl lp's and cassette tapes [members only jackets] I never owned one, thats my story and I'm sticking to it!
Ray Davies is the Superman. Ron Paul is a feeble flickering gas lamp compared to the nuclear hyperenergy of Ray Davies. Ray Davies is an original thinker - Ron Paul is an intellectual fake - borrowing the bad ideas of failed fascists.
@HiawathaMohawk Ron Paul supports and in turn is supported by one of the largest White Supremacist organizations in the United States. its that what you want in this country?
Lousy montage video. Great song. Shame isn't not a live performance with video that we're seeing here. Listening to the song without this video trash is more satisfying, to me.
@Leprechraun Ok, that's crazy - Victoria, Village Green Preservation Society, Come Dancing, Lola, Shangri-La, Days, This Time Tomorrow, Have a Cuppa Tea, they have a million songs that are spectacular. Start with the album Arthur, then Lola vs. Powerman, Village Green Preservation Society, those three are worth any band's whole output.
I was just in my boyfriend's car listening to the radio on our way home from a broadway show, and this song came on. I said "Wow, who is THIS?" He didn't know who it was. But when the song ended the deejay said who it was. I love this song!
What is wrong with Sony that they would block this video from being embedded? Perhaps underrated tracks/albums from the late 70s selling so fast they need to be throttled so other music has a chance? How does it make sense to keep the product you sell inaccessible and unknown?
Anyone from the Boston area remember when Duane Ingalls Glasscock (clone of Charles Laquidara) from WBCN played this song for three straight hours in 1979?
As young constuction workers in the late seventies we used to go to GO-GO bars at lunch time. The places were Packed. The GO-GO girls loved to dance to this song. I can still hear them slaping there 7" heels on the stage when I listen to it. I still love the Kinks but going to those type bars has been long gone
@DaveLovesRealMusic well making a big political difference isn't everybodys personality. Paul made, and still makes great music that makes people happy. I know that when i need a pick-me-up it's Pauls music i choose to listen to. I listen to John and Georges music alot too. All great musicians for sure.
I figure the reason this band is not pushed by big media as say the Rolling Stones or The Beatles is because they decided not to sell their souls to el diablo. Nothing else explains it.
@kinachahue George harrision never sold his soul..when he realized he was being exploited as a mop top he gave it up and stopped performing Live for 20 years (and never again in the USA). Paul and Ringo were HAPPY to sell theirs and so were The Stones. MONEY MONEY MONEY
@DavelovesRealMusic none of them sold their souls, at all. George did perform live when he had a good reason to. I.E. concert for Bangladesh. Paul and Ringo were just different people, and sharing their music meant something a little different to them, it's not that they were selling their souls AT ALL.
@didyouspitonmyfish Well we can agree RINGO didn't find anything of VALUE in "spiritual enlightenmenr" what he found value in was actual VALUE (bottom line cash). Paul...I agree--he was a Mop top Innocent and in 1962 that's what you DID--play and HOPE you earned a living. getting a record deal was NOT selling his soul. When he matured he and John DID come to see the simplicity of their early songs and EVOLVED. Only as a SOLO artist Paul could have made much MORE of a difference politically.
@DavelovesRealMusic - Nah, Paul was never going to do that. His gig was being adorable and having all his Aunties love him. Like a jock or supermodel who everybody treats differently, Paul was treated differently cos he was the gorgeous one, wherever he went. So he played to that. Those kinds need to keep the attention coming. John, tho, was a lonely soul, w/ hard knocks, and never stopped trying to figure it all out. Paul didn't have to. He had it all. For him there was nothing to figure out.

Some of you people are funny. She took 2 different videos and merged them brilliantly which is why it is not "in sync". The Black and White footage is from "Sunny Afternoon" done in the 60"s, and "Back Where WE Started" done in the late 80's.
To the peabrain that would care, the Eddie Van Halen version should be out soon.
Wow!, is this a good song! Fits right in with what is going on today! I cant believe all the dj-jocks who never play this song. I sick of the same songs on these classic rock stations. They dont know crap about good artists! The Kinks Rock!
Why do people find a song online just to rate it negitively anonomusly, do they have anyhting better to do? I have only rated two songs negitively once for the video (not the bands some person made it in a way that was VERY inapropriate) and another on acident.
@moontheloon1982 I wish I had a pigoen chest. I think it would be awesome to be part pigeon. I could spend my lunch hour in front of the bank downtown eating bread crumbs along with the rest of my fellow brother and sister pigeons...
@TruthAxe Ha! Yeah, it was 1979... I think EVERYONE put out a disco record that year. Fortunately, this is one of the better ones... (read: catchy and not embarrassing!)
@stratmentalist I also don t understand why some people are under the delusion that the Kinks are so underrated. If there is one fantastic band underrated, it s the one in my channelname. Better and stronger leadsinger, better powertunes, better live act, more diverseness in styles than the Kinks.
lol you gotta love the evolution of the kinks... few bands range from 1964 to 1994. the low budget album was like there transition from 70's rock to 80's rock... which is a pretty radical transition really.
you're so right, and what i think is so great about it is that they weren't just *trying* to do it - the 80's sound - in order to stay current. they were defining it. that sound they have in the intro and the android sound to it - they were riding the front of that wave, not limping along - and yeah - having been around since '64, that's pretty amazing.
The Kinks are probably one of the best bands i know, (and yes better than the beattles, for me). Anyone of their songs are classic, ahead of their time, and incredible.
Nope...Not better than the Beatles-There probably will never be any band that could be better than the Beatles. They were musical geniuses and they created a culture that changed and defined a decade if not a generation! The kinks wrote a few good songs-not quite the same!
Agree with your opnion on the Beatles,, they influenced a generation and defined the 60's,they and the groups that followed them filled a need the baby boomers and the world sorely needed at the time. The #1 song on the charts "I Want to Hold Your Hand "replaced was by the Singing Nun.The Beatles ,Stones Kinks, Who, etc were at the rite place at the rite time,,but don't forget they were influenced by Elvis and all the Blues and Jazz musicians that preceded them. It all just flows together
This song is amazing! does anyone know what year it is? it sounds like today while being amazingly old! The kinks were so ahead of their time! unreal!
Why this song missed the Top 40 is beyond me!! It peaked at #41. It seems all the decent songs miss the Top 40, and songs that don't deserve to be in the Top 40 get there. Great tune, nonetheless.
1 Where Have All The Good Times Gone? 2 Superman 3 Waterloo Sunset 4 Art Lover 5 Dedicated Follower of Fashion 6 Life Goes On 7. All Day and All of the Night 8. Sunny Afternoon 9. Till the End of the Day 10. I'm Not Like Everybody Else The Kinks = GOAT
@TruthAxe They brought sensitive and smart character sketches and satirical content about people with ordinary, "boring" lives (often Engligh) to rock music. They also originated the fuzzy, gritty guitar sound you hear on "You Really Got Me" - inspiring a ton of hard rock bands and punk bands. Other big bands didn't sound like The Kinks in 1964. Now just about everyone does. ("Innovate" = finding an experimental or creative way of doing something different -and leads to being "influential")
Lousy, the once sharp KINKS,at their most 70's low end. These cool 60's images don't help one bit.

The kinks were so ahead of their time! unreal!

@theriptidemovement Like The Who, whose songs never sound "old"

@alabhaois This song sounds old, way old. It has a 70s drum-bass combo. The engineering is so late 70s.

Why this song missed the Top 40 is beyond me!! It peaked at #41. It seems all the decent songs miss the Top 40, and songs that don't deserve to be in the Top 40 get there. Great tune, nonetheless.

@cabsouth In what way did they innovate? Innovate means to change people's behavior.
Chuck Berry innovated. Hendrix innovated. Eddie Van Halen innovated. Alice in Chains / Soundgarden innovated.
It's hard to say whoelse innovated in the rock idiom.
TruthAxe 1 year ago
@TruthAxe They brought sensitive and smart character sketches and satirical content about people with ordinary, "boring" lives (often Engligh) to rock music. They also originated the fuzzy, gritty guitar sound you hear on "You Really Got Me" - inspiring a ton of hard rock bands and punk bands. Other big bands didn't sound like The Kinks in 1964. Now just about everyone does. ("Innovate" = finding an experimental or creative way of doing something different -and leads to being "influential")
