This was my favourite show as a child. I was a big fan of the late alfie bass....I wrote a song called THE UNICORN as a tribute to the ealing film a kid for two farthings. If you would like to hear the song please visit meryl heasman on you tube. thanks.
Alfie Bass had a furious temper on him apparently, my father worked on the show as his hairdresser, and if everything wasn't to Alfie's liking, he would take it out on my father, he would often come home in tears with a hair brush up his ass.
Bass also had a habit of borrowing money from cast and crew in order to make sure he was re-employed in further series! He openly said that in a TV page interview I once read. Not my type of bloke at all I fear - however Bill Fraser liked him enormously it seems.
The writers of this show went on to do Round the Horne - the funniest radio series of all time (IMHO) so I've often wondered what this show was like...I've never been able to get hold of a copy
The first series is being released on DVD on 21st September. You can find details on my DVD Release schedule page. You will also be able to rent it to see what it is like.
Does anybody have the answer? Did the Bootsie and Snudge characters appear on TOTP doing a take off of Unchained Melody (Walker brothers) way way back in my childhood..
@0208name - if memory serves, I think it was Alfie Bass (Bootsie) with comedian/actor Harry Fowler doing the Righteous Brothers take-off, and I think it was on Ready Steady Go!
OK and thanks.. I think your right that it was Alfie and Harry. Black and white TV and I was very young back then. I just remember laughing my head off at the time. I wasn't paying any bills back then. And now i must check out (motor bikes throttling up then) Ready, Steady, Go.

Unchained Melody was by The Righteous Brothers, not The Walker Brothers.
