Actually you can get into the castle before the thorns are removed and without climbing the stalks. Go back one map and to the portal on the bottom, then just keep moving right.

@bedpen5 u know d two split roads before entering d spike portal? well simply enter the one below / far end ( sry i dun remember ) n you'll walk a looong way down to another edge castle wall.. on d way like 2/3 maps you'll find d infected pigs with mid spawn rate.
