I always used spring-clouds technique. Since the first acts of this game, I learned that was more better to jump as far as you could, because hidden surprises were everywhere. Great game was 'Sonic 2' for Game Gear.

A question: is this the only Game Gear game where Sonic use glider?

Never knew about that hidden spring that allows you to get the sky high emerald. I've perfected the gliding though... 15 years later I still nail it every time.

Only problem I have with this game is the first boss... Master System version you can see the balls when they bounce up! GG they bounce out of the screen... I'm interested to hear more about how you nail that part... I end up doing it eventually (and don't die for the rest of the game) but it's a pain having the only hard boss 1st.

There are 3 set patterns in which the balls can go. 2 of them are rare and one is the most common. It's all about memorization where the safest spot is.

game gear versions of sonic games suck alot. the game gear ( aka: sir sucksalot), has crappier controls, there are only six chaos emeralds and no super sonic. and the ring sound is ANNOYING AS @#$%!!!!!!!!

Why do people think this game is hard? It really isn't. I never needed a guide for this amazing game; I just naturally beaten it with ease and had a lot of fun with it. This is my childhood Sonic game, and I love it so much! Again, not hard, just use your memory and persistence, and you'll make it. One more thing - Underground Zone boss for the win!

Go to about midway thru the 2nd act, where there's a spring with rings above it (and a row of rings to the right of it). Jump on that spring, then jump on another spring just to the right. Land on a cloud to the right with rings on it. Then jump on an invisible spring (with rings above it) to the right. Move to the right and you'll land on and jump from another invisible spring. Move to the right a considerable amount and you'll get it. If you mess up somewhere, go back to the original spring.

There's one hidden in every act 2. If you get the first 5, Metal Sonic will drop the 6th one and you can go to the 'Cristal Egg Zone', then rescue Tails and get the good ending.

Man, I hardly ever got past the first boss. But the last time I played this was when I sucked at video games in general. I might pull out my old game gear because of this walkthrough. I would always use the "secret" stage select to play instead of doing it the correct way.

Tails was a girl, when originally created, as is evidenced by one of the translations of "his" name, refering to Tails as a Zorra, as opposed to Zorro. Zorro means male fox, but Zorra means female fox.
