@kalel248 I wouldn't say that he looks better yet. His wrestling is better, his Jiu Jitsu isn't as good but I do believe that Jones is more creative with his submissions than Silva. And in regards to their striking, Jones hasn't hit that "Ninja" status yet like Silva as. You definitely see resemblences but striking wise, Jones isn't there yet but he is very talented & it looks like he's getting there pretty fast.
@GSPRKY I agree with ya on many points, but Jones has escaped numeral take downs and submissions, just by stepping out of them quickly. He seems difficult to hold for the submission attempts. I find Jones punches are far more accurate than most fighters, when he throws them, they land. He just isn't the best kicker yet, and I don't really think he will be kicking people out. I like his new thrust kick technique (used the whole fight vs Shogun) though, that really keeps people away.
@NY1love I agree with you on most of what you said but I'm referring to the fact that Silva is a black belt in BJJ & Jones isn't. I do believe that Jones will get his kicks up to par, it just takes time. He is still young & seeing how dangerous he was against shogun, it's probably gonna be sooner rather than later.
Jones and bader will be closer than everyone thinks, if bones can finish him his next fight should be the winner of silva and rampage for #1 contender.
Racially speaking, MMA is one of the most "balanced" and diverse sports out there when it comes to winners.
All you have to do is look at some of the champions and greatest fighters in the sport like Cain Velasquez, Rashad Evans, Anderson Silva, BJ Penn, GSP, Shogun, Lyoto Machida, Chuck Liddell... All great fighters from many different cultures, countries and race.
It really only comes down to the individual and their skill. That is a fact.

@BlueBarrier782 I think genetics plays a huge role in how well you can fight. It's not readily apparent right now, but in the future, this will be blatantly obvious, even to the casual observer. When UFC first started, it was all about technique. In the future, there will be less disparity between two fighters, as everyone will have good technique. I see this happening now, as the weaker guys with average strength aren't standing a chance against the stronger faster opponents.
@supermuble I do not disagree that genetics plays a vital role, that is why I said it comes down to the individual. However there is a large difference between an individual's genetics and an entire race's genetics.
I would also note that in fighting, the mind is the most valuable tool. Being the strongest and fastest doesn't make you the best fighter unless you have an excellent mind for fighting. So personally, I see that as being the biggest advantage that a fighter can bring.

In the future, you will need to have heart, genetics & incredible intelligence. As MMA evolves, the ordinary mortal people will be filtered out. @kalel248 I wouldn't say that he looks better yet. His wrestling is better, his Jiu Jitsu isn't as good but I do believe that Jones is more creative with his submissions than Silva. And in regards to their striking, Jones hasn't hit that "Ninja" status yet like Silva as. You definitely see resemblences but striking wise, Jones isn't there yet but he is very talented & it looks like he's getting there pretty fast.

@GSPRKY I agree with ya on many points, but Jones has escaped numeral take downs and submissions, just by stepping out of them quickly. He seems difficult to hold for the submission attempts. I find Jones punches are far more accurate than most fighters, when he throws them, they land. He just isn't the best kicker yet, and I don't really think he will be kicking people out. I like his new thrust kick technique (used the whole fight vs Shogun) though, that really keeps people away.

Racially speaking, MMA is one of the most "balanced" and diverse sports out there when it comes to winners.
All you have to do is look at some of the champions and greatest fighters in the sport like Cain Velasquez, Rashad Evans, Anderson Silva, BJ Penn, GSP, Shogun, Lyoto Machida, Chuck Liddell... All great fighters from many different cultures, countries and race.
It really only comes down to the individual and their skill. That is a fact.

Sorry I didn't mention Fedor, but his competition really varied through his career. He was great, but not as great IMO as a lot of people claim.
And Overeem has yet to prove himself against REAL competitors at heavyweight in MMA, not K1.

@donshery I am sick of UFC haters who have no idea why they even hate on the UFC in the first place. I don't even have a favourite promotion my interest is in fighters and fights, it just so happens that the UFC has the deepest pool of fighting talent and puts up a card almost weekly these days. Lets not forget that most pride fighters fought there for financial reasons, the paydays were far bigger due to the exposure in Japan and the fact that the UFC was still banned in most states in the USA

I will always catch the best fights from DREAM, Strikeforce etc but the UFC is where its at and hating is futile. Liddell is in his 40's now and his knockout list is outstanding in terms of the talent he faced, funnily enough one of those was Overeem who ended up unconscious so its pointless picking on him.

What is a fact is that MMA is still a new sport! but Im white and i can say that generally blacks are more athletic. Right now, the technical fighters are still prominent. But when a more athletic guy comes around (with technique), he will dominate. @BlueBarrier782 I think genetics plays a huge role in how well you can fight. It's not readily apparent right now, but in the future, this will be blatantly obvious, even to the casual observer. When UFC first started, it was all about technique. In the future, there will be less disparity between two fighters, as everyone will have good technique. I see this happening now, as the weaker guys with average strength aren't standing a chance against the stronger faster opponents.

@supermuble I do not disagree that genetics plays a vital role, that is why I said it comes down to the individual. However there is a large difference between an individual's genetics and an entire race's genetics.
I would also note that in fighting, the mind is the most valuable tool. Being the strongest and fastest doesn't make you the best fighter unless you have an excellent mind for fighting. So personally, I see that as being the biggest advantage that a fighter can bring.

In the future, you will need to have heart, genetics & incredible intelligence. As MMA evolves, the ordinary mortal people will be filtered out. Right about now, I see a lot of fighters who have made it on hard work and heart. Someday, hard work and heart won't be enough. You'll need natural strength, freakish genetics and natural talent.

There are some black guys that aren't strong fighters (Rogers?) and there are white fighters who aren't strong enough (Couture Jr.). Nothing against these guys, but if you are going to fight, no matter what your background, you have to be athletically gifted, not just "average." Hershel Walker said Cain's cardio is unreal, and Hershel is a freak of nature!

@purefigha101 If by blacks you mean western african and those descending from WA, then yes, they have been gifted with fast contracting muscle fibres that are useful in explosive sport. But, they have also been "gifted" with a neuroanatomy that differs them from other races; lower IQ, lesser cognitive abilities (the stuff that separates man from animals as opposed to athetical abilities) So if you want to handicap them in sports I guess we will have to handicap other races in other areas.
