I got my slider as a Christmas present and it's hilarious how they eat bylines just a little baby a bit bigger than a quarter and he has to break down the pellets with his claws hehe I could imagine it now hheh :D

@MACABREMARIPOSA my RES turtles did not eat either when i first bought them.. it is normal for them not to eat the first week.. or more.. but later on they will eat .. dont stop feeding them though.. because you wont know when they may start to eat.. hope this helped

i found 2 little turtles outside my house about 2 or 3 days ago and i bought them a little tank to live in and some turtle food (the small pellet type) i drop the pellets in the tank and they just float around the turtles dont eat them!

then i bought baby turtle pellets and they wont eat them either!

im afraid their going to starve and die anything i can do??? plz help

(ps: i dont know what type of turtles they are either but they are aquatic )

@onemancomedy if the water is too cold then they wont eat. i had the same problem with my turtle but then the water was warmer and they start to swim around and eat the food. hope this helps

You shouldn't keep turtles that you find. Put them back where they belong. They aren't

meant to be pets, because you "found" them so they are used to where they were.

They aren't used to it, they don't know what pellets are, so I suggest you bring them back.

please help, my red eared turtles don't eat the food i give them, I purchased this food from a pet store and it is for turtles and its stick type, so i put the food near them, they just look at it and do nothing, both turtles i have are small like half the one in the video.

@ khmerboy6969 .. ur wrong , they do not hibernate .. actually all reptiles do not hibernate they brumate .. wich means they are becoming less active but ocassionaly rising for food or water . Brumation can occur in varying degrees. Red-eared sliders brumate over the winter at the bottom of ponds or shallow lakes and they become inactive, generally, in October, when temperatures fall below 50 °F (10 °C). Individuals usually brumate underwater.@ NguyenEmpir3 .. this is the true one ..

turtles will get swollen eyes if the water is to cold and they dont eat either if its cold so what temp is the water at ? put it between 25 - 28c and that may solve it

do you have a heater ? are they inside or out ?

alright, the turtle ius finally opening its eyes but just a little bit but when i look into its eyes, its eyes arent dark, they seem kind of grey... and still seems to hate swimming and not move. I try to feed him and still never eats his pellets, so i have to put him on the table and when he opens his mouth, i have to force it in! there is no other way!

oh no you carnt do that ...dont feed your turtle on the table , they need to eat in the water because turtles dont produce saliva and even in the wild they will drag food from land in to the water as they carnt swallow and if they do it wont be much ...i still need to know what you keep him in and water tempretures and water depth ..is he inside or out and do you have a water heater ?

i put him in a small tank water depth around the size of a cup and no i do not have a water heat instead i put him next to a heater while his water is warm so the water doesnt really get cold... and the turtle still not eating

ok do you have a basking spot were he can come out of the water when he wants ? and how big is the tank ? what food are you trying to feed him ? sometimes turtle will not eat becuase they dont like the food or becuase they are unhappy about the tank, but the water temp will all so stop a turtle eating and get swollen eyes ..turtles want too have water temps at around 25-26C or 26-28C if ill ...i had a turtle with swollen eyes when i got my first turtles and it was because of the water temps

Well it can cost anywhere from $80 to hundreds of dollars! I am currently in the works of putting together my new turtle tank right now and already it has cost me $70 and that's bot including a tank, the turtle, gravel, a good filter, and food. So, yeah...but in the end it is REALLY worth the money because they are REALLY great pets! Did u know thru can Even be trained to recognize their name?

I feed my adult RES cook chicken, romain lettuce, carrots, uncooked shrirmp as a treat,. frozen fish, veg are not too good if fed as a meal it destroyed the d vitamin, only good as a treat. live fish from pet shop are a chance to be taken, they might carry parasitte, is good to buy the feeders and keep them separate for a few days or a weeks to make sure is healthy .

Well my turtles live outside in the pond and they hibernate during the winter when there isn't much direct sunlight. During a bright sunny day they come to the pond edge to bask in the sun. Right they are nowhere in sight since it's winter.

Well I feed em like every afternoon. But there are also plants in the pond that they eat. They eat the leaf and root of the water hyacinth. I also throw in anacharis from time to time. They love that water plant. I have a bunch of them in a big bucket. I bought it from the petsmarts a bundle for like three bucks and now I have an endless supply. The fish love to eat them too. Do you have a pond or tank btw? Hope this helps but anymore questions feel free. =)

yeah turtles do need some sort of lamp so that they can keep warm and maintain a healthy life. If u just put them in a bowl of cold water without much it might not eat for one due to the temp., it wont be active, and it can die if its a baby. If u want ur turtle to have a good life get em the required stuff. I have a RES for like 3 yrs now and for the first 2 yrs i just used a normal lamp and it survived so u can use that for now until u get an actual heat lamp. Hope that helps
