@blakbull11 Kind of is. It's basically Silent hill 1 but with the ice world instead of the otherworld. Got near enough the same story, you play as the same character and everything. It's just taking the first game in a completely new direction but through the same town if that makes any sense.

This silent hill is scarier than the other games. This one has the nightmare part of it, which has to do with Ice. Ice has to do with darkness, darkness has things that hide in it. In other games, there's the other world, which is fire, bleeding walls, stuff like that. You can see where you're going, and whats there, even if there's fog you feel more comfort. This, you need balls to play this game.

It's nothing like the original, but I like the new scare tactics they have here. In Homecoming, they made you a soldier with a knack for combat. Now, you can't even do shit to hurt the enemies here. Just run away like the little girl you are. :D

Darn it, due to the nature of how the messages are played (Through the Wii Remote Speaker), whether it makes a difference to the plot or not, without them, it feels like a less deep experience.

Although the other Silent Hills are in fact FANTASTIC and some people might find the introduction of this whole new idea as weird or bad, I think it's great because it puts someone into a situation and shows basically how they would really react, instead of instantly understanding Silent Hill and killing monsters etc. This guy runs for his life!

Actually this game scares me just like the original. Look at it. its just as dark and hard to seee as the first one. Silent hill origins fucked up on that one. And with this game, if you run away from monsters, more will come to kill you, if you fear, this game digs into you and will kill you for that. Theres no escape. you must play it dammit >.<

@TheRedVillain This game commits the biggest sin a survival horror could do: it puts the player in a comfort zone by clearly separating all danger in the "ice world". Plus the enemy sequences are all the same, there's nothing to look forward to, except lots of running. It's like a marathon.

@FeanorBR I thought that schism of normal to ice world was really well done, of course you're in your comfort zone while you're not in the ice world, but I like the escalating sense of dread one may get while wondering when the ice world will reappear. Sure, lots of running, no weapons - but it kind of makes you feel vulnerable, sort of helpless. When you can shoot your problems away it's just not as scary (in my opinion.)

In the old games, you would walk slowly, carefully admiring the dreadful and sometimes dynamic ambient surrounding you. From little things like a trail of blood going to a corner to a wheelchair filled with bullets with it's wheels still spinning, all of those elements kept you on your toes.

@TheRedVillain The marathon running, on the other hand, was doom 3 dark, had enemies as a constant (so no real mindtricks on you, no antecipation, no surprise), high pitched noise made by them derived from generic stock sound effects, had banalized death (well... at least I died too much, maybe it was my fault)... They essentially traded the carefully constructed minimalism of the other games for an action packed segment.

@FeanorBR I gotta agree on a bunch of those points, there were times in the ice world were running wasn't necessary, giving you the opportunity to admire the sinister environments and atmospheres, I'm not sure which Silent Hill did that the best, and it's only my opinion, I guess the quality of this game is solely up to the person playing it, 'cause no amounts of opinions can ever make anything better or worse. It depends on the individual.

It got a bunch of things right, like the lantern mechanics (best one I have seen in a game), gorgeous art direction (one of the best, if not the best on the wii), great story, specially the ending (ending-wise, the SH series was always a bit lackluster, IMO) and a few other things here and there. I enjoyed it, but I just think that it fell short for such small things, which is a pity.
