  • Even though he says it is not political the psychologist take the blame of Israel in the massacre.

Tantalizing the audience with the cartoon medium this movie erases from the memory of the audience many facts.

Good effects but the intention hurts Palestinians once more.

  • In regards to Ari's final statement in this interview... My class studied this film for our "History and Memory" module. Imagine a room full of teenage boys, most of whom are avid COD and Halo players (and therefore glorify warfare), brought to stunned silence as they watched this film. You have done your job, Mr. Folman, and you have done it well. That is all I have to say.

  • I have, and probably always will be a cynic when it comes to war films that try to play with your emotions, and excite your sympathies.

However... this film, is incredible. Not only does the use of animation increase Ari's ability to convey the images in his mind to the utmost detail, but the final transition from animation to the real shots of the ululating women, and the carnage of the massacre is able to bring a room full of people to dead, meaningful silence.

    Beautiful.

  • According to Robert Fisk in his book "The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East", pp.484,488–489, Israeli defence minister at that time Ariel Sharon and Chief of Staff Rafael Eitan met with the Lebanese Phalangist militia units, inviting them to enter the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps and telling them the PLO fighters were responsible for the assassination of their leader Bashir Gemayel. This is the core information that was neglected/distorted in this movie.

  • @Diala80 You are right. Ari Folman doesn't care about the massacre of 3.000 Palestinians.

It is a story of his conscience and even though he says it is not a political movie when dealing with Sabra and Shatila politics is at stake.

He should have done a movie about another issue and leave Palestinians alone.

He shows the emotional of Israelis veterans. How can it not be of political interest?

  • the Movie is GENIUS i just bought the graphic novel

  • this video is a plot spoiler. and what a stupid question bout the footage. its coz the camera broke!

  • i just finished watching this movie, to tell u the truth best movie i have ever watched, but its a shame when i tell people that im from Lebanon. i like this movie because its the solders point of view not the leaders. "when the rich wage wars its the poor who die"

  • @zoombarakat Did you see any Palestinian talking?

  • Comment removed

  • God bless Bachir's soul, from Israel!

  • damn what brilliance

this is a war that's still happening

  • @chantoke Exactly. This is a war that is still happening.

  • @AnaLimaLuiza What do you mean.

  • Great film. Watch it on DVD at 1.5 times speed a much better experience.

  • GET LOST IL HATERS....IDF FUCK EVERYBODY

  • "War is useless"

  • that man saved my life....

  • He has very wise eyes.

  • the discussions here are pretty sick! what are you arguing about? i think you didn't understand the message of that movie! .. it's a "piece of peace", a film AGAINST war.... nothing else. and i wonder if people will ever forget their fucking violent way on which they kill each other ..or do hate each other.. actually like you're doing here in your "non"-communication. it's really sad. YOU ALL saw this movie, i guess. why the fuck don't you understand the meat? humanity seems far away. sad, sad..

  • why the fuck is the interviewer smiling the whole time?

  • I,m from Lebanon and I like this film , good work , from art and animation point of view ,

  • This kind of movie should be shown in Lebanon (they might want to edit the porno scene....) I think it could heal. Maybe also some birth control to prevent overcrowding on both sides too, so there can be peaceful coexistence

  • good intervew ,very short and clear

  • Ari, where are your tears for the 100,000 Lebanese Christians in Lebanon & thousands of Israeli civilians murdered & maimed by your "poor victimized" Palestinians on buses, discos, malls, kindergartens, schools, eddings, cafes, pizza parlors, markets, tortured and bodies thrown out windows on TV? You cry for the Palestinians but as a Jew & Infidel they hate you & don't cry for you. Take the money you earned on this piece of shit aplogist film & give it to families of Israeli terror victims.

  • @Brazilfilms09able Clearly you did not "get" the film, try watching it again ! You are good at talking bullshit !! CNN and Fox news are controlled by the Arabs...oh really ?? And if you want to talk about victims ? Any child killed during this violance is a travesty whether they are Jewish,Arab,Christian,Hindu whatever !!

Lastly did you serve in Lebanon 82 ??,well this guy did so perhaps he has an idea of what went on- unlike you !

  • The civil war ended 20 plus years ago,GET OVER IT !!

  • pristinak: 100,000 Christian civilians were butchered & maimed by the Palestinians & Muslims in Lebanon & thousands of Israeli civilians were maimed & murdered by Palestinians as idiot Israeli or Jewish leftist "intellectuals" in England or US (like you) bitch about the Palestinians, yet shed no tears for the Lebanese Christian & Israeli victims of Palestinian terror. These victims, nor I, cannot "get over it". Maybe if Palestinians killed & maimed some of your loved ones, you'd shut up.

  • @Brazilfilms09able

ha ha this MF is clearly as retarded as the

soldiers in the movie, it's ok you can join Isarel together with all of your friends here who pity the Israelite Zionists for something that happened 70 years ago, by Nazis (by that to say your own people outsold you for the money in it) talk about being backstabbed by your own people, I'm not saying that it wasn't horrible, same as it was with sabra/shatila massacre.

point your anger towards your pals at the White House and Israel

  • Brazilfilms09able... you need to stop spamming your pathetic shit all over the video's that have to do with waltz with bashir. mmost people know of the attrocities commited by both sides. but as ari says this movie is not political! its about one mans experience with war. so FUCK OFF. NO ONE cares about what you think. go and preach your shit to others who will nod mindlessly with you.

  • jmsimpson11: Former Bosnia & Afhagnistan commander Richard Kemp calls the IDF the "most humane army in the world". Accidents happen in war but IDF doesn't commit "atrocities". Only Palestinians & Muslims deliberately target, murder & maim civilians, even their own. Ariel Sharon was accused by Time, Inc. of responsibility for the Sabra Shatila massacre. He sued Time for libel & was exonerated. Ari's film distorts the truth. Your comment indicates you're misinformed in need of psychiatric help.

  • @Brazilfilms09able ahahahahhaah i need psychiatric help? you are fucking nuts! do you piss and shit your pants on a regular basis? cause by all the comments you send... it gives that impression. oh and by the way, you didnt even listen to what i said. ive already heard everything youve been saying before. but its irrelevent here because Ari's film is not supporting one side. its an autobiography you stupid fucking idiot. now get the fuck off my internets!

  • fuck you man "Brazilfimls09able....You don't know what you are saying... If you did'nt understand the movie, you don't need to complain, just shut up!

I'm brazilian, and I'm really sad, cause this retarded is from my own nationality(I think)

  • @Brazilfilms09able... I've just finished watching the film, and reading the back and forths between you and several others on this thread. I'm sorry to say this, but you really sound like all you want is pity and recognition for the deaths of the Christians. Please, enlighten me as to why this is so much more important than any of the other deaths. Ari isn't a Christian, nor was his view of the war from a Christian perspective. He made a personal film about personal events (cont'd)...

  • ... and themed it around the principle that war itself is an atrocity. He tries to convey that the killing of ANY human being is a vile act. And, in my opinion, the film gives as much to the viewers as his own apology and admission of shame and guilt for the roll he played in it all. There is no glory in war or in the deaths of innocents. Only destruction. As a fellow Christian, I'd challenge you to enlighten me to any scripture which might indicate that Jesus cared less (cont'd)...

  • ... for one person than for another. Did he die only for those who believe(d) in the one true God? It was my impression that he died for one and for all. "It is not my will that any should perish..." How about this one: "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." And finally, Christ's very words to the pharisees, "Those who are well are not in need of a physician, but those who are sick." I'm not asking you to "get over" any past tragedy that has taken place against (cont'd)...

  • Comment removed

  • @Brazilfilms09able This film was a guilt offering, us "jews" Israeli's aren't like the christians, or the muslims, or the nazi's, that's not our way. The christians ruined us, and brought on a guilt that we DO NOT need at this point, we need all the pride we can get, the christians have always caused shame for us....(cont.)

  • @Brazilfilms09able ....What about when christians killed jews for "killing jesus" and not "converting". DON'T FORGET ABOUT THAT!!! we've been screwed by everyone of the othher Avrahmic religions, I've had enough of it, and many of my people have as well, we shoud've stoped the christian phalangists in time, we know that now, and if we were given another chance, we would have

  • Palestinians & Muslims raped, tortured, murdered & maimed 100,000 Christians during the civil war & I don't see Palestinians making films about their guilt or shame. Only Israeli Leftist self serving idiots make Israel look bad. How about a film about the Christian victims? 10,000 in city of Demur alone covered up by Arab controlled world media. Handful of Palestinian victims & whole world ignores their crimes against humanity & weep. Where are the tears for 100,000Lebanese Christian victims?

  • @Brazilfilms09able It's not suppose to be about how christians should feel bad about what they did, it's for us Israeli's to feel worse for what we alound you to do, you had taken war, and turned it into something worse than what it already was, and now Israeli's are not only looked at in shame, but compared to nazi's, when WE DO NOT do that, it's not in our nature, those christians stole our pride, and made us feel like shit for it. For what? because they did that to them? wrong....

  • @Brazilfilms09able There's no excuse for killing inoccent women and children, puting them up against the wall and slaughtering them, the way animals shouldn't even be treated. Yes, christians were wronged in the same way, but those women and children had nothing to do with it, and you say that it's ok to act like them? BTW Chirstians didn't make this film, they didn't show how they were guilty, it was made by ISRAELI"S, do feel guilty, for what CHRISTIANS did.

  • Most of you people are a bunch of hypocrites and morons. So brainwashed with ur Judao Christian fueled war mongering. I wish Russia or China would all of a sudden create a religious state in the middle of New Jersey, kick all of the existing natives out, who have lived there for centuries, imprison them within their own homeland with concrete barriers, then when these people fight back, they are "terrorist"?? What about Israel's defiance and violation of UN resolutions? OVER 60.

  • well i guess the palestininans shouldve accepted the '48 accord and not been so greedy and made war with the Jews first.... ;)

  • That girl was lost, believe me

and Ari did a great job! i loved that film, the music is great, the story is pure and touching, we can say that is very personal

  • yes, he DID his job!!!! im 18 and i do understand the point. its true, hes a genius. if i wold be able, i would tell him in a long speech what it teached me, what i think about it and and i wold say thank you so much, make more movis like that one, please

  • Ari Folman is pure GENIUS.

  • man, i feel so bad for all the victims of the war. we take it for granted -the fact that we are alive. i hate war and wish it would end.

  • she asks stupid question... and I think she did'nt get AT ALL what the movie was about....

  • She sits there and acts all pretty and everything. I doubt that she saw the movie at all. My God, sometimes I feel ashamed by the stupidity of mankind. It shows clearly in this movie what our stupidity does to others!

  • Perhaps , A soldier expirence of a war is very important . Soldier are also human they also go through some extreme in war situation and withouit going into poltics of war its important to show a soldier view of war. hats off to director

  • You've got it wrong Mikedow. Christian Lebanese slaughtered Palestinians in refugee camps of their own accord. It was retribution for the murder of Bashir at the hands of Palestinian terrorists. The Israeli army's actions were one of providing logistics and support. The fact that Israelis feel so guilty about what their army did reflects a mature and introspective society. Palestinians have absolutely no self-consciousness or self-awareness of the bloodshed they have caused to their own people.

  • i didnt get it,the israelis were not involved in it or were they and later felt guilty about it?

  • The Israelis was not involved in the actual massacre, it was the christian Lebanese who killed all those people.

  • The Christian Lebanese told the Israelis that they would be searching for terrorists in the camps. The Israelis agreed with the mission and provided logistic and support. They found out second hand what the Christian Lebanese were doing, namely enacting a massive slaughter as revenge for their fallen leader. Strategically, the Israeli army "protected" themseves by not entering the camps. Whether they knew in advance what the Christian Lebanese were proposing to do is up for debate.

  • pittdog u still support the stupid idea that this horrible act which is done to israilies is no big deal? if ur father, mother, sisters and brothers wer slaughtered and thrown on the road would u still say ohhhh this is no big deal cause other people died too? i mean ur stupid and wortheless

  • This movie depicts war as exactly as it is. It is incomprehensible hassling where people die needlessly. War isnt dramatic, its idiotic and ridiculous. Chaos where scared people kill each other.

  • i agree

  • all i have to say is this movie was amazing, living in canada all you hear about is the american or canadian wars when reallly theres worse shit goin on, plus one of the best animated movies ever ari you really broke the mold dude, you really did

  • i have seen this movie-i very much doubt that he or anyine narrating was actually there. First, teh phalange whos flag is a triangle cedar in a cirlce diesnt bear the Christian militia cross(kewet)-two,why did he fail to mention the 200 dead & wounded Christian militia in 3 days fighting the camp?Do u think the PLO would take ALL its fighters & leave no one garding the cache of weapons? this is true rubbish.Wheres teh mention of hte PLO slaughter of Christian villages in the south?

  • It's just a great film about the nature of traumatic memory.

It's not political. It's not anti or pro israel. It's about the complexity of the experience of 1982

  • amazing film....congratulations from mexico city...

  • its anti-war movie not anti-israeli ..what is the crap that your father said to you?..i hope your father have tried to stop the kills in sambra and satila and i hope that this film is crap and Ariel Saron is a saint....but im afraid not

  • shut the fuck up, it's not anti-jewish but anti-sionist and he's jewish and israeli, it's based on his real experience

  • ...and I respect your father's opinion but think about there were israeli soldiers in a lot of different spots during the war, so is it just what the war was or just your father's point of view? and I'm just asking for Ari Folman's respect you mustn't slander a man who has done what he has done... asshole

  • i am sorry that the libaneese havent killed him at this war. such nazis as your father dont deserve to live.

  • I agree with him, American war films are rarely ever anti-war nowadays. I thought immediately after watching Saving Private Ryan that it was a pro-war American propaganda film. Common, the only German character is unnamed, and he is merely used to show how "good and forgiving" the American soldiers were. Even Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket, which are both great, fail as anti-war films. Well, at least The Thin Red Line is out there, though.

  • He explains the film's purpose well. It's personal, about the people, not politics and politicians.

He didn't want to glorify the situation like in fictional war movies either. He didn't want ppl to have some misguided concept of bravery and honor in war.

  • Best movie I have ever seen, but...I'm looking for actual pictures when this guy was in the military, he was the guy we were following the whole time....

  • good movie

  • closest i have ever seen to perfect in film.

  • great film.

  • I think he should do another film about the recent Gaza massacre far far worse than what happened in Lebanon in 1982 and the butchers were Israelis not the Phalange!

  • Wow. And you sound like you know a lot...

  • you are such a pathetic idiot, please die immediately!

  • at least I know who my dad is unlike you! Arguing over the internet is so stupid, you should watch this movie for what it is! Like he said it's not a political movie.

It's not about religions it's about people, can you understand that?

I am a christian too but tell me, didn't we kill innocent ppl aswell during the cruisades or is that another "story" that didn't happen??!!

  • arguing over the internet is like taking part in the special olympics- even if you win - you are still retarded

  • @anonermous LOL HERE HERE ! A TRULY SHAMEFUL DISPLAY BY ALL PARTIES. I ALSO WOULD HAVE ACCEPTED " MAKING YOUR POINT ON YOUTUBE IS LIKE BEING THE COOLEST KID WITH DOWN SYNDROME...IT JUST DOESNT MATTER MAN.LET IT GO". GOOD INTERVIEW,GREAT MOVIE

  • lol, ur probubly using windows, or a computer that uses intell, intell is made in israel lol

  • looks like he's really looking out for us kids. i want to see this ,ovie so bad

  • As the message surrounding the movie says, a good man knows what a mistake is.

-power and simplicity dressed in art-

  • she was about to cry last few seconds of the interview...

  • An important film that everyone should see. It is all to easy to turn a blind eye to war and its real effects on the individual. When the film moved from animation to real footage I felt like i'd been punched hard. it took me a long time to stop crying.

  • Yes, absolutely agree. It was such an impact to see the real life footage having been immersed in the dreamlike atmosphere of the film. I had a lump in my throat the size of a grapefruit. A very powerful and important piece of film making

  • Can't say I cried but I was indeed horrified. It's an undeniably great movie.

  • I never thought a movie would immobilise me. At the end of this movie, as the credits rolled, I was unable to get up and leave the cinema.

    Emotional impact to the limit.

  • Thank you Ari Folman for your film

Waltz with Bashir. I saw it some minutes ago.

It is more than a good animation with

    good music.

I sincerely hope you achieve your intent with it.

The war is horrible. Slaughter is worst. Unacceptable.

    Thank you for your work.

  • Fantastic movie !

  • :) watta legend

  • Ari Folman made something so incredibly beautiful with such horrific material to start.

Only enlighted and wise people can reach that point, where they´re able to transform their true life nightmares and give back to the world this amazing piece of art and humanism.

  • why does everything connected to israel has to be also connected to politics...why cant people just enjoy a great movie without these discussions

  • @MIVcha Because the state of israel (NOT on capital letters on purpose), as a whole, is an artificial state, created by force and by -illegal- immigration =)

  • @elvergohn1 and we k now about those muslick immigration officials. Always preserving the true arab stock.

  • @elvergohn1

    You're a fucking idiot

  • @ZonTheDon Oh yes, truth hurts my friend.

  • @elvergohn1 What's your point? All states are artificial if you go back far enough. Unless you're from Africa, at some point, your ancestors immigrated to where you are today (even if you're from Africa it's doubtful that there wasn't a migration at some point). The whole question of whether or not Israel should exist or not is outdated. The point is, it exists. An entire generation of Israelis has grown up in the Israeli state. Live with it.

  • @sadistcobra Of course all states are artificial, that's common sense. Wake up,the point is NOT if the state you call "israel" should exist or not. The point is all the lies, despotism and violations it has caused since the beginning. You, or any other in this page, CAN'T pretend that these people are peaceful and understand human rights or care a fuck about other people who are not jewish."live with it"? No, thanks. It is better for THEM to live with the idea that Palestine does NOT belong them

  • @sadistcobra

Your vision is simplist ! So that Irakian should have stayed in Koweit, germans in France and so on ...

If so many people want Israel to disappear as an artifical violently established borders, it must be because it is legitimate.

Try to think you are a worldwide citizen and you will admit that no borders must be allowed on the earth, not only Israel.

.. but all the governments have spend so much time to engrave their nationalism that it is hard to understand for many humans.

  • @kalisteboat First of all, vision? It's not a vision. It's a practical assertion. Of course Iraq was wrong to invade Kuwait and of course Germany was wrong to invade France. And of course it was wrong that Palestinians got displaced when Israel was founded. But the fact is, Israel as a nation has existed for over 60 years. An entire generation has grown up in Israel. If it was wrong to displace Palestinians back then, it is equally wrong to displace Israelis now.

  • @MIVcha maybe because it´s a highly political movie???

  • @MIVcha I understand what you mean, but I think the point is not to enjoy this film, it's to apply it to our lives. Particularly those of us living in countries facing war or hostility in general. Israel would definately fall into that category. Nearly everyone in the country has a profound interest in politics.

  • If a pali would go into a TelAviv cafe and behead all the soldiers he sees there, that would not be terrorism either, and if he wants to accept the ramifications of being at war, he can do so.

The act only becomes terrorism when innocents are targeted intentionally.

  • ok lets say israel is a problem to arabs in the middle east and "terrorists" bomb israel to defend themselves...how do you explain arab and moslem bombings in countries such as spain england the u.s. australia thailand india ... are they also defending themselves against these countries???

  • the civilian "arabs and moslems" killed in palestine are not necessarily the same ones who put the bombs on buses in london.

While as a british person i suppose i must reluctantly accept some responsibility for the actions of my government, i do not accept responsibility for all the actions of all people who share my religion, ethnic origin or whatever. Its possible to defend palestinians and condemn the madrid/london bombers.

  • i have yet to c this movie but i wonder if anyone will see Isreal differnt now?

of course they are to blame for many wrong things in the Middle East but that usually goes unheard of.

maybe this movie will reveal some truths?....

  • I believe it deserved the Oscar.

  • A great film, a sad story. But war is always a somber tale.

  • i have never seen such an ill informed and misleading comment

  • ari folman is a brilliant man and waltz with bashir is one of the greatest movies of our time.

  • Yeah a 100% right about young people thinking that war is cool and you can play be a hero and protect your country well it's not. It's something you never want to be a part of. It is so sad. Great film, two thumbs up.

  • "There were real people.. They were slaughtered, they were killed.."

I hate how she just nods and looks intrigued, show some respect

  • That's the best film of my life. When i wached it i cried i was scay i laught

  • This movie deserves an OSCAR!

  • Very clever man. Im 16 and the film definitely did get its message through to me about the horrors of war. Really disappointed it didn't win a BAFTA, definitely deserved it.

  • Awards do not really matter at all...

You yourself said the message got through to you...

If a film does that to people, it has achieved its purpose...

Award ceremonies can never change that..

    Peace,

    HP420

  • awards are still nice.... they get more word out there..

  • its a very very good film

  • Nice interview. amazing film.

Its funny he is saying its non-political, and then comparing it to other anti-war films.

    thx for the vid.

  • i just saw movie, really like itm war hurts everyone ..

  • Thank you. You are brave man

  • married oh no !!! LOL... it doesnt matter a girl can dream!

  • well no he doesnt , but maybe he did make the character. look a little like him.I think he is a babe!!

  • Comment removed

  • what a good looking guy!!! he is a babe!!

  • I second that!

  • ha ha

    He is already married.

  • He looks like the protagonist from the movie lol

  • Its him..

  • He IS the protagonist from the movie,

    It's about him.

I don't think he actually lost his memory but he was in Lebanon in West Beirut and part of the scenes depict real documented events.

  • You are Israelians indf89 and

mishtameshethadasha. Are you (already) conscripted? And if you are, are you allowed to choose for the airforce or the navy? Is there a chance you don't have to do experience what folman did? I am interested.

  • I am a woman. I served in the intelligence and not in the battle field.

Men who are healthy can be forced to be combat soldiers. But that doesn't mean that all combat soldiers experience what Folman did. Today our soldiers are not in Lebanon and not every soldier witnesses such horrors. Also for the Lebanon war, I believe that the scenes in the movie are realistic but surely extreme.

BTW, you didn't reply to my comment and I saw your comment just because I came back to this video page.

  • I didn't reply because it was actually a question for both you and indf89.

When i saw videos from gaza, and saw all those tanks, soldiers and planes, it immediately reminded me to waltz with bashir. Okay it was only 3 weeks but a lot happend and many people where killed. Did you also thought about "waltz" or did you saw it as something else?

  • I only saw Waltz yesterday.

The recent war in Gaza has reminded me of previous wars and operations...

When seeing Waltz I thought more about Lebanon than about Gaza.

For the Israeli soldiers and most civilians, the wars in Lebanon were far more traumatic than the recent operation in Gaza. Of cousre, many Palestinians were killed there in scenes similar to those of Waltz.

Anyway, the Hamas haven't changed their ways, they keep firing rockets, so sadly the war in Gaza isn't over.

  • Ari Folman is such a brilliant director. I have to say that Waltz with Bashir is probably one of the most powerfull war films I have ever seen. At first it almost glamourizes war, but as the film keeps moving it drags you into the abissmal sadness, and all of the horible aftermath. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Something is wrong in the way she looked at him, like she didn't like him much..

  • How can he possibly claim that this movie isn't political? Because it's "personal"? It's a story about the contested - but justified - Peace for the Galilee Operation. If he had an ounce of self-respect he would portray Israel's reasons for undertaking the operation; instead he's just cashing in on Sabra and Shatila at the expense of his national honor. and the interviewer is clearly trying to send a political message - look at how she frames her questions. Bashir should sit this dance out.

  • I disagree. A person is aloud to tell about his experience without analysing the political background. I don't think that it damages our national honor. Our soldiers come out just as human as everybody else, and we do have an open and honest cinema which none of our neighbors have.

Of course, some people use every opportunity to bash Israel, but I think that for most people the movie is an opportunity to see us Israelis in a much more realistic way than they usually do in the news.

  • Congratulations for the movie.

  • It's the first time in the cinema while the movie ends, and no one make a little noise! i could hear every one breathing. The movie shocked every one!!!

    MUST SEE !!!!!!

  • I concur. The last scene brought an almost surreal silence. You couldn't even hear people breathing.

  • i agree .. the final scenes were breathtaking ....shocking...and i agree not one sound when the movie ended

  • I was the same here in Jerusalem when the film ended. I actually started crying when there was a transition to real people. a little ebarassing to cry in the end of a movie...

  • I did understand the messege of the movie!Thx Ari!

  • Just saw this movie, absolutely incredible and very moving. I've never been so into a film before, very well done Ari!

  • The director is right that war is wrong. But how can he say don't join the army, if almost the whole population (of Israel) is conscripted?

Is it his idea to let them desert?

Or is he speaking more for other nations?

  • @osborncameron:

In general, military service is a very dominant part of life in Israel, a state that exists primarily due to its military strength of deterrence. I would say yes, it encourages the Israeli youth to refuse obedience... some already have..., even before the movie came out.

  • jiblei

as an Israeli I'd have to disagree with you. some people have refused to serve in the territories and jailed for that. I think he wants people in the west to see the truth about war, that being said the Israelis have no choice but to defend them selves.

  • Hi sahar091,

of course Israel has every right to defend itself! I never said anything different... But that is not what Ari tries to tell the people in his movie! As you say: he wants people to know the truth about war. And the truth about war is that it is horrible, that it always takes away innocent life, that it leads nowhere but to further hate, that many people live a traumatic life when they experienced it, ...

  • defend?

u call that defending........israel kill people from helicopers and planes.

    they kill children and women.

THE FUNNIEST THING IS THAT WHEN PALESTIEN FIGTH BACK ITS TERRORISM.

  • Oh come on, man! There is not just black and white in this world. This craziness has been going on for such a long time and nobody ever seems to learn. One side always blames the other for starting this nonsense and ONLY fights back. Everybody is always JUST fighting back. How about trying NOT fighting back for once... Let's see where we get from there.
