  • Cloth ears -- the only explanation..

  • bravo you are professional

  • Один из лучших мастеров гитары.

  • Hi there, thanks for this another reply. A friend recommend to me Line6 POD STUDIO UX1, is more good than M-Audio Audiophile? What you recommend from this two ? Line6 or M-Audio ?

  • you're a great player!

  • Hey Leigh, thanks for your reply, now other question: You have a preamp? What is more good? I'm a little beginner in recordings, i don't want a expensive preamp, you can tell me what preamp you use please?

    Thanks,

    Stefan.

  • Hi Stefan

I think I was using a M-audio audiophile here. I now use mainly Motu stuff as it is cleaner. A lot of the sound has to do with the guitar too.

    Cheers

    Leigh

  • Hi Leigh, what microphone is this? I want to buy a mic to record something and i don't know what mic is good for gypsy guitar. You can give me some advices please ?

  • Hi there, it is just an SM 58a SHure which is a vocal mic with slightly more warmth than a SM 58. This is all I had with me, I have found that a condenser mic in combination with a large diaphram mic works better.

    Cheers

    Leigh

  • @jazztube

  • very nice i hope that i can get as good as you before i graduate highschool (its a longshot lol)

  • woah.. man that is a BIG goal! You might be able to get the technique.. but it takes years to be as good as him. Just the musicianship involved is amazing!

  • well u need big goals to do big things

i know i wont be able to do this, but by trying ill make some nice progress

    :D

    :D

  • Yeah haha he was the head of the NZ school of music for 18 years, still, you'll learn alot!

  • Actually nah, sorry, jazz guitar department haha... still good though!

  • great tone. LOVE IT

  • dang I gotta learn sweep picking...

  • Hey i got a neat tip! Try picking really close to the bridge when playing Gypsy jazz. Cool tone to experiment with. I'm pretty sure some of the pros use this technique :P

  • I'm new to gypsy jazz, I'm wondering why a person would choose a guitar with a small sound hole instead to one with a very large sound hole?

  • I believe the purpose for the small sound hole is to produce a more Focused, precise and overall brighter tone. In the old days, the lead guitar needed to cut through a whole acoustic band.

  • hence the larger holes on the other gypsy style acoustics which provide a thicker grittier rhythmn based tonality

  • what strings you use for this guitar?

  • Comment removed

  • shoe laces

  • Great touch on all your videos. Great musicality to say the least. Bet you have talent and don't just rely on books and transcribing!

  • Lovely stuff Leigh! The tune reminds me a bit of Clair de lune. Back to practice I go;)

  • Beautiful phrasing! Your right hand technique looks a lot like Django's. It's very relaxed and loose.

  • watch closely neophants and learn this great history and culture through the guitar.TOMMY2TOONZ

  • so beautiful~~

  • This video has been featured on the front page for several days yet there are only a few thousand views? I don't get it.

  • Lovely from a real gypsy?

  • Great stuff man I love gypsy jazz django , lagrene, rosemgerg and those gypsy guys.

And wow gypsy jazz workshop in New Zealand definately keen on that please keep me posed from fellow guitarist Kara Gordon.

  • "Magnificient" Mr Jackson!!!! I'm a big fan of

Bireli Lagrene and of course Django and Stephane Grapelli's music. Your amazing, how

ever I have to say that Django didn't actually

invent this style of playing. Gypsy guitarists

who played this style were as some music historians point out - 'A dime a dozen in Paris in Django's day' and many were better than him but his greatness is in how he beat the odds by 'Relearning how to play with only two fingers'and he got the breaks they didnt

    get.

  • Thanks for that, I am sure you are right, Django was just the tip of the iceberg but I doubt if there were any that were more innovative than him at that time. I have changed the video comments to say that he took this style to the world rather than inventing it which he obviously didn't, thanks for your input.

    Cheers

    Leigh

  • 'Hey thanks for the post Leigh',And yes you are right; Django's innovativeness and pure genius was what elevated him above many and the fact that he only had two fingers to play

with also worked to his advantage because he

showed people he could play as good and even better than most guitarists with all their fingers intact! But all honor to him cos that

must have been hard work and He's one of the Legends of 20th Century guitar! The Dutch gypsy guitarist JimmyRosenburg is another

    genius.

  • beethovenbix you are totally wrong.

although it's true that gypsy guitarists in paris were common at the time they were mostly playing musette music. The QHCF were totally unique in their day. they played jazz in away that it had never been played before and influenced generations of musicians afterword. Django was unrivaled in terms of guitarists in paris. It states this clearly in the Dregini and Delauny books so i really don't know which jazz historians you are talking about here

  • this is one of the most beautiful sounds of i hav come across yet dude...well done

  • Hello from across the Tasman. Django reincarnated? Superb musicianship. I found you as you were on YT's front page, so I clicked, and I'm in awe now. Have subscribed, given you 5** and straight into my favs. Well done, Leigh!

    Cheers L

  • muy rapido haha i like how fast he moved his fingers

  • magnifique et poètique
