*sniff* This is one of my fave pre-Christmas memories as a kid. Watching after school cartoons and sitcoms on WNEW, adding to my way too long Christmas list whenever a commercial came on. I was born in '66 and never even went to a TRU until I was grown, but the anticipation, the magic that was Christmas in the 70s is defined by this simple 30-second commercial. Kids today don't know what they missed out on.
@HardyGirl66 You capture it perfectly... I feel ya! I can remember this even on WPIX and also during morning cartoons. I am writing, each year, a bit about what we have lost by having grown up and losing the eyes and innocents of childhood if it becomes a book, you would be someone who would enjoy the read. From family to TV it all changes, doesn't it? I do know that if you close your eyes you can journey to a wonderous place called our youth... Too bad reality forces us to open our eyes again
I was born in 71 and I remember this commercial quite fondly! When I saw this commercial as a kid in the late 70's and 80's I got a thrill that shot through me that can only be described as the anticipation of Christmas being just around the corner! Oh the magic of those days!
I remember seeing this commercial back in the late 1970s when I was a kid (I was born in 1969) One wonders why toys r us doesnt still play this commercial these years. Its fun, charming, nostalgic, delightful, and timeless. Certainly much better than any other comercial they produce and air these days.
they should have a toys r us-a-thon nd bring back the old commercial nd toys from way back then

Is it "STILL OPEN IN YONKERS"? If not, when did it close and what took its place?

It's the Toys R Us time of year? Wow. That's the most honest description of Christmas I've ever heard.
