  • High there.

Can I ask where you got the ROMS for this from...I remember selling what i believe was the last Origional Working Drivers Eyes on Ebay and it went to MAME who sadly only wanted the PCBs. The rest of the machine was skipped But it was a truly Awesome Project with Incredible speakers for thunderous roaring engine sounds ala original Taito Invaders Sub bass

  • @Powly1966 Hi there, this game works fine with MAME, just press 9 and F2 while it is loading and the game will start.

  • @namco21gamefreak can you send me an actual video of the gameplay?

  • it's debut goes for 1990

it all began with winning run in 1987, before being followed by the Suzuka Circuit version in 1989, and the last one in 91. I must tell you the their final version, the cars' colours were from the teams i knew(McLaren, Williams, March, Ligier)

  • Are you sure the game doesn't work? It does on my MAME and I own the latest version. It's an amazing game!

  • @FZEROPOWER what version of mame do you use?

  • @namco21gamefreak I'm using the latest version. You can't control the car because of the wrong preset settings, or because you can only play with analog controls...I'm not sure because I've always used a steering wheel.

  • @FZEROPOWER

Here's a shocker: Since the game uses three monitors, the game requires three board sets -- one for each monitor. It also seems one of the supporting boards has the shifter controls.

That's just what I think. I only use emulators for research purposes.

  • @FZEROPOWER Is it possible you can upload video gameplay?

  • @namco21gamefreak Sorry but my PC isn't good enough to keep a good framerate while recording. Try to play it using a steering wheel.

  • system 21 was definitely amazing for its time! how did you manage to create the nice screenshot of the player car?

  • Just googled drivers eyes

  • I played Winning Run probably about 20 years ago now. The thing i remember about it most was the low frame rate, it probably ran at about 15fps on a good day. Was it the first 3D arcade racing game?

  • I believe it was, the first 3d arcade game was probably atari's I Robot from 1983 check it out it was awesome!

  • MAME need to hurry up and emulate this game

  • Driver's Eyes is definately 1990. NAMCO had an earlier 3D F1 game called Winning Run which used the 'Polygonizer' first.

Unfortunatley no working ROMs for MAME are available, and no footage of the game on Youtube either! :(

  • tell me about it, even though i aquired the winning run gsm namco 2 ost from japan (RARE!) it brings back a lot of memories!

  • Is the music from the System 21?

  • Sounds very high-res for an 80's arcade sound chip, is this from a rearrange CD?

  • no this is the original sound surprisingly enough

  • Yeah the system 21's sound system was way ahead of it's time the sound was generated by a Yamaha YM2151 (used in the majority of arcade hardware of the time) and a namco C140 the main sound chip it was also used in the namco system 2 (Suzuka 8 Hours, Final Lap, Rolling Thunder etc)

  • Nice. The C140 is also used in the Namco Arranged games, the 90's remakes of like Galaga and Dig-Dug, right?

Either way, Namco is badass. Have you played SOLAVOU?

  • Of course ive played all the system 21 games the system 21 is the greatest arcade hardware by far

  • I actually kinda like Sega's Y Board better but yeah Sys21 is AMAZING.
