  • bar 2: the A is actually not on the beat, but rather it's on the (ah) of beat 3. You did mention that all the bass notes were on the beat. This note is not on the beat. Otherwise, you've nailed this piece. Thanks for putting this on YT.

  • awesome cover! is that a taylor your playing? if so what model?

  • Well done for this video! Do you happen to know where I can get tabs for this please?

  • very very very very thank you Guy.i do not know what i say but very very very hank you ^___^

  • best video on youtube!!!!!

  • Damn! my weak point at being a guitarist is that i have short fingers :s

  • OLA DESCULPA A IGNORANCIA EU NAO ENTENDI COMO E A AFINAÇAO

  • thank you so much!!!!

  • ugg. ugg. ugg.

    Well Done!

    Ugg. Ugg.

  • i cannot express how appreciative i am that you post these videos the way u do. How slowly and patiently u teach. I have only been able to learn this because of your teaching style. THANKS!!

  • @denlabz you're very welcome! your comment alone is worth making the video.

  • I want to play this song!

Thank you for uploading kind lessen video!

    I will practice harder!

  • standar tuning?

  • @Andrijeli Drop D capo 2nd fret :)

  • @ron619 thx man =D

  • It's harder than it looks :)

  • hi i'm so glad i found your video. i have a question. did you use you pinky finger at all in playing this or the 2 middle fingers are enough in playing the melody. thanks

  • your lessons worked ! thanks man :)

  • LET ME BORROW YOU'RE FINGERS FIRST BEFORE I PLAY THIS

  • Thanks for posting this.. and great that you met TE.. he's awesome..

  • Well done. ;)

  • We long lorn to this song du you?

  • do you have long nails on your right hand?

  • @paullie6719 nope, i dont play with nails

  • @paullie6719 C'mon...R U serious...I say yes he does.

  • This is the lesson that keeps on giving. Anyone who wants to be a guitarist should live on Scott Tsai's channel channel_

  • Thank You :)

  • hey nice vid dude helped me learn it alot but i watched your vid with him teaching you and at 4.04 on this one you play it diffrent to him why? good job though

  • Thank you. I thought that was the case.

  • Thanks for posting this. Been playing for forty years, it's nice to learn something new. Are you just tuning the low E string down to D?

  • @michaeltrctt465 hey thanks a lot for watching, im glad you like it. and yes im only tuning the low E down to D

  • @ScottTsai Thanks for sharing your work, the video is great! What I usually do instead of tuning the E down to D is to apply the capo on 5 strings only from the A string. This way you keep you tuning.Take care

  • its good but not realy a tut, or a lesson

You just play it a little slower

  • My drop D tuning with Capo on the second fret sounds wrong. The low E string ruins it.. What am I doing wrong?

  • @niconude Do you tune to drop D and then put the capo on the fret? that could ruin it a bit.. And if you tune while the capo is on the fret, note that you tune your lowest string down to E from F#, not to D

  • @DannyLoef1 Thanks for your reply Danny. I did figure it out though :) Now working hard to sound like Tommy!

  • @niconude haha aint we all trying that! goodluck!!

  • Dude, you play this very elegantly. I will be trying to watch and learn this over the weekend. Thanks alot for making the video!!

  • thank U !

  • This really hepls, but it's more a slow playing with hints than a real lesson.

  • Well man, good job! And thanx..

  • When I play the chord you do at 1:09 it sounds so rough .

  • must see live hackbook trick /watch?v=Fd0di5HFboY

  • Best facebook hacks at /watch?v=Fd0di5HFboY

  • @ScottTsai I seriously thought about buying a GC7 or CA7, both cedar top. Spruce tops are very bright for me. After hearing your guitar 414ce love me too, I consider when choosing my new guitar. Your guitar sounds great. Thanks!

  • @ScottTsai What's the guitar?. The sound it's good. It's the widh at nud normal ?

  • @sakuarius102 the guitar is a taylor 414ce. the nut width is 1 3/4" which is pretty standard

  • Fantastic! thanks for the help! We are so lucky to have people like you willing to do this. I'll be a much better player because of you! Thanks so much!

  • Thanks sooo much! This is just what I've been looking for! Please don't go away! So many times I find someone that makes sense and they stop.. You're a gifted player, stay around so some of us can learn. Keep up the good work.

  • you are awesome!! this is just what I've been looking for! thank you :DD

  • my guitar doesnt sound right lol

  • thanks a lot for doing this walk through very helpful Scott!!

  • I think the speed you did it at was just fine. Thanks for posting this man it helps out a lot. Can't wait to learn the harmonics part :)

  • Whats the tunning? Is it just the E chord tuned down?

  • @Karma8090 its in drop D

  • wow, you really are amazing, but it's too hard to learn and memorize all the chords, notes. but thanks

  • OMG you´re AWESOME!!

its gonna take me ages to learn it but im SO happy you did the efford to put this on youtube:D

  • what tuning are u using mate?

    thx ya.

  • Very well played and I am still busy learning this, my sincere compliments. I Have a nice suggestion for a piece of music to grasp and other people to learn this. Sorry for my English:-(

It is From a very popular guitarist in Holland Harry Sacksioni and it is called Jessa. He wrote this when his daughter was borned. Hope you like it and perhaps you'll take the time and effort to learn it and learn it to us than! Keep up the good work

  • Thanks very much for this Scott! I've been getting back into playing over the last year after a long long break. This is the sort of challenge I need. While I got most of the shapes from watching Tommy's video, yours has sped things up for me. Don't need or want tabs. I'm playing 2/3 of this already.

  • @philxyz200 hey you're very welcome! watching others play is the best way to learn in my opinion

  • God! i find it so difficult to do the 1:26 hammer on :/

  • @pablitoelenano try to get the whole song down first and then work out the little details later. i feel that it works best for me

  • @ScottTsai You're right, friend. I'm on it :)

  • Awesome lesson bro. Love the sound of your Taylor. I'm looking into upgrading my acoustic guitar to either a Martin or a Taylor.

  • very good!

but i wonder if you can write the tabs at 2:40 - 2:45, that would help ma a lot! thx!

  • @jonathannilsson15 that part is excactly played as the tab on ultimate guitar dot com, just download powertab and download the powertab tab from ultimate guitar and you'll be good

  • hi mate. I loved the sounding of this guitar. What is the brand and model? Thanks

Good playing thought, it sounds better than many covers around.

  • @mautrindade hey thanks! this is a taylor 414ce

  • Never mind how old he is. Face it, you and I are old and you can't teach old dogs new tricks!!! I'm 48 and have been playing on and off since I had a guitar at 12. Only ever had one lesson, my first, 3 weeks ago. Made more progress in the last 6 months than ever, watching you tube vids, downloading tabs etc, but practice is bringing it together.......slowly. Remember, to be a master of anything like this requires up to 2000 hours practice before you can be deemed 'proficient'!

    Good luck.

  • @Igotknobblies youtube is a great resource! its how i learned to play too. 2000 hours seems about right

  • @ScottTsai Hey Scott, you're bored with practise too! What guitar do you have? I got an Ovation Legend 1767, a beautiful Yank built model. Got recently on Ebay and sounds great re-strung with Elixir phosphor 10's. My trouble is that my hearing is so crap that I can't hear the top two strings unless I plug it in and increase treble end. Earphones ok but through the speaker and I start to wind up wife and kids!!!

Keep on practising. I'm trying Angelina by Tommy E. Increadible track. Try it.

  • @Igotknobblies the guitar im playing in this video is a taylor 414ce and i also have a collings that ive been playing more often

  • hi dude may i know how old are you and how long have you been playing guitar? i wonder how long it takes to play as good as you are.

  • @captdavidwebb I learned this after about 2 years of playing guitar so you can do it too! ive been playing about 7 years now

  • @captdavidwebb sorry i didnt answer your question, im 21 now

  • awesome job dude. your better than me and guitars been my life for like the past 4 years haha

  • Nice feel bro, good work. Thanks for putting this up.

  • @readerwriter hey thanks, let me know if you have any questions

  • Very nice sounding guitar.

  • @Carthsgtr thanks! its a taylor 414ce

  • Lovely lesson! I play it with a capo at the second fret, I feel it sounds brighter, just my impression by the way!

  • @MrPonty81 cool thats how TE plays it too

  • this is brilliant

  • @captdavidwebb thank you!

  • how did you tune your guitar ? can you tell me please ;3 ?

    very nice playing ;)

  • @MrShainee this is tuned down to drop D. thanks for watching!

  • Great tutorial, I was struggling with the 'official' tabs, even guitar pro, and I just couldn't get it to work. Within 2 minutes, thanks to you, I now finally know what I'm supposed to play. xD I just happen to be a pure listener kind of musician. Theoretical stuff and I do not mix well. :P (nor do I care much for theory, in the end it's all about how it sounds)

  • Very Very good. Thank you.

  • Outstanding instructional! - I'm a little late to the party here (as i just discovered this video instructional)...but it looks like you are capo'd on the 2nd fret, and is it also drop-D tuning?

  • @danschroeder14 hmm I don't think anyone responded yet right? xD However you are completely right sir. ( I actually have to capo on the 2nd fret, everything BUT the e-string, since I can't tune drop D on my floating tremelo system with 09 strings :P)

  • Man, that was pretty good. Great job!

  • Make a better video explaining where to put your fingers

  • ...this is not "veeery slooowly"....

  • great playing

  • Awesome video Scott. I have been trying to learn this song myself and I must say you do a great job at explaining the sections. Keep it up man I look forward to more of your videos.

  • @racer080 Hey thanks a lot for watching, I really appreciate it!

  • INFOWARS.COM

  • Hi prefect video. But I cant get that gliz on 1:30 sound right... is there a pinky involved? If so I dont know where... it sounds completely different than yours.

  • dude that's not slow at all

  • Question: you and Tommy (and more) use alternate picking for this song. Do you ever use your pinky to pick a snare in this song or ''those who wait'' ?

Beautiful playing btw. I still have trouble with the pull-offs at 2:40 and the stretch of my pinky and the hammer-on at 3:25

  • @koensieben622 hey ben, what do you mean by a snare?

  • @ScottTsai I'm sorry, i mean ''string'' ofcourse (In holland snaar = string)

  • @koensieben622 oh okay no problem, i think i only use my pinky once or twice to pick in this song but i dont think its even necessary

  • very very pro done mate. This is amazing. Thumbs up from here!

  • Excellent!

  • There's so much to learn from you! Great Lessons! Can't wait for more! ;-)

  • Scott- Great Lesson!! Thanks.

  • @kevdog54 you're welcome! thanks for watching

  • What's the tuning? I can't get my "low E" sound right. Please help.

  • @mattemuppen the tuning is drop D. Tune the low E string down a whole step to a D

  • @ScottTsai Thnx :)

  • great !!!!!!!!!

  • could you tell me what you are doing from 3:51 till 3:58? I cant get it cause it sounds like the previous similar part and if I do the thing you do in the video I dont get that sound + its different what Tommy does in the video guitarsoul uploaded. So please could you tell me :)? sry for my english

  • Instead of buying a camera he would be better off buying a pencil and writing the fucking tabs down. I'm sorry to be rude but it is true. The correct and easy to understand tabs would be more helpful than anything else.

  • Thumbs up if you watched this without even knowing how to play guitar :D

  • I CANNOT believe this fucker didn't tab the song. As soon as I have learnt it I will tab it and do a vid.

  • @xxxLewisDre4mxxx I learn the song from tabs(not the original)

but this video helps me.I believe the same ....with you

  • μπραβο man . i learn this sweet piece and you help me very much

    thanks

    nikos /greece

  • The thing thats driving me INSANE is I get the chords and can play them now but I can't for the life of me work out the "in between" notes you are playing. If I try some random ones from within the chord it sounds shit its doing my fucking head in.

  • You really like Tommy Emannuel. I like him a lot too. Have you ever checked out Andy Mckee's music? Btw, thanks for this lesson. It really helps.

  • This is not slow. it is too fast

  • @WilliamGuitar100 maybe it's fast for who started to play yesterday. it's a damn good speed!

  • Unbelievably wonderful! Thank you so much for the tremendous amount of work and time you have dedicated, for sharing it with us, and for the beautiful music.

  • Hey everyone... If you really do like having this guy here to walk you through these songs,? help a brother out and pitch in on some better video gear .....see the link up there?? this young man is spending ALOT of time with these posts and is trying to get up enough funds for a better camera..! Did one of his lessons help you? send the love back around and lets get him some better gear, its an investment in your self sort of..its easy safe and the man is willing to continue doing this for us!

  • @crossingzero hey I really appreciate the support the better video gear will definitely help everyone out. It means a lot to me that you're posting these on my videos. let me know what I can do for you or what songs you would like to learn when I get the camera.

  • nice playing... that is one stunning sound youve got there from that guitar!! what is that beautie???

  • Porra cara, você só toca e não ensina nada.... Mais toca muito bem, voto positivo :) Parabéns...

  • Nice one Scot

  • genial

  • Really nice, man, good work! It's helped me a TON.

  • thanks for the great lesson.

  • It MIGHT be helpful to point out that, in general, the pick comes down on the bass strings on the 1st and 3rd beat of each measure though of course there are many additions to this. I only state this for pedagogical reasons and as an aid to achieving the proper feel for this piece. Otherwise, this instructional video is one of the best of its kind I have ever seen. Bravo!

  • i have a problem.

i'm learning this song but i can't find how to play the part between 3:56 and 4:03

could you please tell me, how to play this part ? :D

btw this was the best cover on youtube so far iv'e seen :)

    5 stars

  • Very nice Scott. Very good teaching technique as well. I hope someday you'll do one for "Saltwater". Keep up the excellent work.

  • absolutely brilliant ! you are a godsend man. cannot tell you how much i owe you for this! continue posting more vids.

    cheers, from india.

  • thanks for the lesson. helpful!

  • could you write down what you are doing from 2:35 until 2:45 please :s? its really hard to find a decent tab and I dont really know what to do

  • thanx for posting!! great explaning

  • FANTASTIC instruction, and beautiful technique. Thanks!

  • drop D tuning

  • @ScottTsai

you Almost forgot to mention it...lol

  • is this standard tuning?

  • HEY there!! great job!! . is this standard tuning? .... i can't seem to get it right ....... take care

  • Great stuff Scott! You have the ear. Any chance of learning Blue Moon by Tommy and teaching us that song as well?

    Take care buddy.

  • This was very helpful Scott :) Thank you!

A video response is liked now.

    hugs, Judith

  • you make this look easy!! fantastic job with the video production

  • Thanks man, big help.

  • thank you !

  • Great job Scott--almost have this one down thanks to you. I think I will work on Papa Geo. next. I really appreciate your teaching videos. Keep up the good work.

  • Scott, what a splendid player you are ... as always, very kind of you to share ... much appreciated ...

    Donnie ...

  • Nice guitar, :)

Here's a tip: put a cloth under your right elbow, so the finish will stay in good condition. Skin oil/sweat will soften the finish(turns foggy), I had that experience when I first got my Martin 000-28MEC, :\ , but got over it when I use Virtuoso Premium Cleaner&Polish(restores it back to normal :D)

  • Props Scott! Very nice! But could you write down the chords for the 3rd part of the chorus as well?

  • Hey Scott...an everybody...Tommy Emmanuel is playing this weekend in Troy, NY (Sat. Feb. 20)...are you going? Anyone else going!?!? Did you ever watch my version Scott? I put your name in it...I learned my version ENTIRELY from your video! Thanks again!

  • Very nice.

one question though...are you in drop d?

sorry...just startin out with this thing.

    thanks

  • yup he is

  • thanks a lot, thats better than tommy's dvd!!

  • Picking close toward the bridge for brightness w harmonics is a great tip. I also find that it is important to remove your fretting finger from the string immediately after sounding the harmonic note... makes a huge difference in sound quality and sustain.

  • you could make a tutorial of precious time by tommy emmanuel

  • Comment removed

  • lots of james taylor in those chords !

  • You are good!! Keep playing Scott, and thank you so much helpin' us. Maybe one day, I learn to play this masterpiece!

  • Folks,

FYI , Haeronthegreat / Angelina Pt 2 has a very viewable version of the ending harmonic phrases ....

  • Beautiful (^_^)

  • I think I added at least 100 views learning this from your vid! Looked intimidating at first but a 'chunk at a time" worked great.

My harmonic riff at the end doesn't quite sound right. Really hard following since the audio lags a touch from the video portion and finger movement is minimal for harmonics. Any chance getting a hybrid tab just for this portion?

Thank you for this post... Excellent job

  • Equally good interpretation/ guitar lesson, my man.

Thomas/DK. Hope to hear much more from your hand/s....:-)

  • Excelente y gracias por compartir tu talento, un gran abrazo desde monterrey nuevo leon mexico.

  • Thank you for this :)

  • Hey Scott - Watch my version - I thank you in it for litterally teaching me the entire song. 22Drgaons, Scott teaches at an intermediate level, of course its frustrating if you don't understand what he's doing as you're watching it...you need to find a different source to learn it from.

  • Masterpiece.

Thank you. I can play it at one go now.

  • Some nice sound and instruction, Scott. Thanks for the time.

  • I'm stuck at similar place as bboyjimmy.. at 2:37 just after you pick slowly down right through 555757. The guitar pro tabs are a bit hard to read at this bit. Am I supposed to, 1) hammer down onto E on the 7th with little finger, then - 2) quick slide from 7 to 8 and back to 7? If so, my little finger needs to do some strength building exercises!

  • great work

  • wow nice job, maybe i'll be able playing this song, someday...^^

  • Ey man, sick vid but can you make the tabs for me, i dont need the intro..
