Gah! Why wasn't Deforest Kelley shown?! -_- I just became a major star trek fan, and when i saw that he had died in june 1999...grr! I so wanted for him to be in this.
Oh well...we all miss you regardless, De Kelley -3 -3
I really like the theme on this one and the 1999 tribute that ended with Roddy McDowell. Those are great. I think the worst one i've heard is the 2005 one with Marlon Brando. They had someone playing the cello or violin ( I don't remember) and it sounded bad. Maybe the performer was having an off night?
I did read star trek fans got upset when deforest kelley was not shown.despite doing several minor films before star trek. on the other hand james doohan got in on the 2nd oscar night after his passing
Much appreciated r4f388 for confirmation that the music is from Mark Mckenzie´s haunting score for the film "Durango" (1999). The 70 piece orchestra certainly helps! I will add a credit to M M McK to the video description. Not sure we´ve ever seen this film in the UK,. Malcolm Drew.
Nice tribute, you don't happen to have a recording of the 'in memorium' for 2001 (some who were shown on that one were Douglas Fairbanks Jnr, Loretta Young and Walter Matthau). It was a well presented one too.
I sure do miss Hedy. We were very close friends and when she died on January 19, 2000 my heart was broken. We spoke every day for over 20 years. I was at her funeral and can never forget the beautiful goodbys from her family and friends. I love & miss you Hedy. Your friend forever, Arlene
It's so heartbreaking and touching when the thunderous applause you hear when they show Madeline Kahn. This year marks the 10th anniversary of her death. She deserved her Oscar. Still miss her so much. A true Hollywood legend. A true original too.
You're welcome. There were some technical faults on my original tape recording which I was unable to eliminate. I still get a tingle of emotion every time I watch this. Great music too. I wonder what it is. Anybody know?

Victor Mature was one hunk of a man, Hedy Lamarr was breathtakingly beautiful & Madeline Kahn was one helluva funny comedienne.
