'We do not claim to be descendants of Alexander the Great.' - FYROM'S Ambassador Ljubica Acevshka, speech to US representatives in Washington on January 22 1999
"We are Slavs who came to this area in the sixth century ... We are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians" - Kiro Gligorov, FYROM's first President, Foreign Information Service Daily Report, Eastern Europe, February 26, 1992
Hans Lothar Steppan was an idiot anti-Greek fascist. He coouldn't even tell modern history much less ancient.
'We are not related to the northern Greeks who produced leaders like Philip and Alexander the Great. We are a Slav people and our language is closely related to Bulgarian.' - FYROM´s Ambassador to Canada Gyordan Veselinov, Ottawa Citizen Newspaper, February 24 1999
Ok i read and saw in this video and its comments the most stupid things. About ancient Bulgarians the Monkeydonians shit etc. I am open to everyone for a debate to proove once again tha Macedonia is Greek. Now that Bulgarian should obviously be sent to a mental institute.
Modern Bulgarian historiography claims that the Bulgar conquest of Macedonia transformed the Macedonians in Macedonia into Bulgarians. The claim is ridiculous.
a) There is NO recorded settlement of Bulgars in Macedonia
b) Because it was a temporary conquest it is impossible to imagine that the Macedonians suddenly "evolved" into Bulgarians. The case is identical with Serbia since the Bulgarian armies also conquered that country. The Serbians as we know did not turn into Bulgarians either.
c) The Romans held Macedonia for more than 12 centuries.
Thus, since the Romans did not turn the Macedonians into Romans after 12 centuries it's more than unlikely that the Bulgarians could have turned them into Bulgarians after holding parts of that land over a miniscule period of time.
and this detail is most important as it explains why, by choosing them, early medieval slave traders – mostly Venetian, Genoese and Jewish – did not violate the new principles of the “Societas christiana”, introduced by Pope Gregory the Great at the end of the 6th century, according to which baptized people must be excluded from slavery.
Pelii: Was the brother of Jason. This is ancient Bulgarian word “belii/beli/bel/bial” which means “white”. Same goes for the word PELA (Macedonia), which is in reality BELA, changed later by the Greeks to PELA. Do have in mind that the Greeks did not pronounce the sound “B”, as Bulgaria is still pronounced as “Vulgaria”.
All historical sources irrefutably show that the Slavic area was the main reservoir of slaves in the whole period of Early Middle Ages, beginning probably in the 6th century, and with a peak around the 10th. This preference for slaves of Slavic origin – so strong as to make Slavs the slaves by anthonomasia – has been easily explained: in that period Slavic people were the only ones who were still pagan,
This man isn't a historian or anthropologist. This lobbyist, Hans-Lothar Steppan, was FYROM's 1st ambassador from Germany when the country became independent in 1991. He worked with the country's 1st president and Prime Minister...which both said, "the people of FYROM have no connection to the ancient Macedonians of Hellenic times." But this opportunist (Hans-Lothar Steppan) wrote a book to profit on your people's desperate need to be connected to Alexander & Philip. And you fell for it...wow.
@spa05akw so according to your theory mr acamedetian people that shared no common language names or colture with you slav bulgarians are actually the same nation
that is so retard as saying that turks had greek anchestors cause greeks lived in anatolia for centuries before they fled in 1922 also south italians are actually greeks cause greeks had a lot of cities in magna grecia
i hope one day you post some of your acamedician reserach we need some good comedy
On the map, kept in the British museum, created in 4th century by St. Jerome (331-420) it is written the name of Bulgarian lands in ancient times: “Misia hec et Vulgaria” (Misia, namely Bulgaria / Misia, here is Bulgaria). This map was created on basis of older maps by Eusebius of Caesarea (270-338) called “Father of the Church history”.
, after their defeat by the Khazars, another Bulgar tribe, led by Khan Asparuh, moved westward, occupying today's Southern Bessarabia. After a successful war with Byzantium in AD 680, Asparuh's khanate conquered Moesia and Dobrudja [28][29] and was recognised as an independent state under the subsequent treaty signed with the Byzantine Empire in AD 681. The same year is usually regarded as the year of the establishment of present-day Bulgaria
@spa05akw Khan Asparuh was the direct successor of Khan Kubrat. Therefore, according to some researchers, the year of establishment of present-day Bulgaria has to be considered 632 (the year of the founding of Old Great Bulgaria by Khan Kubrat), rather than 681 , Old Great Bulgaria or Great Bulgaria Onoguria during the reign of the Bulgar ruler Kubrat in the 7th century north of the Caucasus mountains in the steppe between the Dniester and Lower Volga
@spa05akw ReligionAfter the creation of the Bulgarian state the Bulgars and the Slavs continued to practice their indigenous religions. The Bulgar religion was monotheistic and they believed in Tangra, the God of the Sky. When Omurtag and Leo V the Armenian concluded a peace treaty in 815, the Byzantine Emperor had to make an oath according to the Bulgarian traditions. The Slavs worshipped numerous deities.
In the mid 9th century Boris I decided to adopt Christianity
There were TWO kinds of Bulgarians: European local who stayed here, and Asian who migrated to Asia. Secondly, Archeology has proved that Bulgarian sculls are of Caucasian origin, that is European!
Read first real and complete history before you open your stupid mouth. You cannot argue with me, so Piss off.
Listen Fyroman Brainwashed poor ignorant creature. KAH/KHAN is NOT Turkic or Mongolian (it is a Copy). It is ancient SUMERIAN, since BULGARIANS were the ancient SUMERIANS – that is Thracians (i.e. Bulgarians) who migrated from Europe to SUMER! And a part of them came back to their home.
Tengri or Tengger (Old Turkic: 𐱅𐰭𐰼𐰃; Mongolian: Тэнгэр, Tenger; Chinese: Mandarin: Ténggélǐ, Hungarian: Tengri, Turkish: Tanrı, Bulgarian: Tangra (Тангра) is a sky god, formerly the chief deity of the early Turkic peoples, including the Xiongnu, Huns, Bulgars, Magyars and Xianbei.[1] the more i read your history the more you seem as a mongol :) so what does your "spurce" say what was your first ruler name in bulgaria if not Khan Asparukh
Pausanias (100 AD), Roman historian and geographer, reported that in Arcadia he came upon the ruins of a village called “Nestane”, near which Philip II of Macedon had once pitched his military camp [Arcadia, VIII.VII.4 (Loeb, t.3, p.377]. This is Old Bulgarian word “Nastane” (NA STAN EN) meaning “settled in camp”. “Nastane/Nestane” is meaningless in Greek.
Other Bulgarian historic and ancient words connected to this “Peli/Pela”, are Belasitsa (Macedonia), Belgrad = White city (found initially by the Bulgarians), and others. Additionally, it can be said, that Bulgarians were known to the world as builders of “White cities”, everywhere whey dwelled. “Bela” was later copied by the Latins with the Conception “Beautiful”, because “White” was regarded as beautiful.
Compare with BULGARI-STAN (pseudo TATARSTA-STAN), BALI-STAN, TURKE-STAN, PAKI-STAN, etc, where STAN is of Bulgarian origin and means ”Estate/State”. Compare also with CON-STAN-TI-NOPLE.
Further, Alexander also wore a Bulgarian coiffure “Chumbas”.
THE WORD OF ALEXANDERS MILITARY CAMP CONTAINS “STAN”!
Alexander the Great: Was Daco-Moesian (Bulgarian). His real name (according to Arab sources) of the great Thraco – Ilirian ruler Alexander is “Iskandar” (Iskan dar), known to the world by the Greek transcription of his name - Alexander. Iskan + dar is Bulgarian language “Wanted/Needed gift”
Thraco-Illyrians and Daco-Moesians were also BULGARIANS! Macedonians and Pelasgians as well!
Thracians were the main component of the army and the commanders of Alexander the Great (about 20 000 men). When they reached BACTRA (another Bulgarian land near India and Turkestan), he gave a piece of land to a large part of his army and left his Thracian generals to rule BACTRA. Even today, no one in these places knows anything about any "Thracians" or "Macedonians", but they know perfectly what the Bulgarians are.
• Alexander the Great: On the crown of pre-Christian Bulgarian rulers was depicted a Thracian hero, Alexander the Great. In the tales of the Volga Bulgarian ancient source "Shan Kyzy Dastany", Volga Bulgarians count themselves as descendants of the soldiers of the Alexander the Great.
@spa05akw I wantyou to show me your evidence for what you are saying, and i will easily proove to you that Macedonia and Thrace are both Greek . You came here many centuries after the greeks. Also if we didn;t came here in Ancienty Europe should be renamed , cause Europe is a part of GREEK mythology
NO. Greeks came after the Bulgarians many centuries after. Bulgarians are the OLDEST - they are the ancient Thracians and Autoctonic. The word "Europe" is of Hebrew origin, and the Bulgarians were the first to call themselves "Europeans". Later "Greeks" started also to call themselves "Europeans" - that is AFTER the Bulgarians.
• Joan/Joannes Malala (Byzantine source) wrote in the VI century about the Troyan war: “And Achilles departed with the Artidies, […] army of 3000 people, who were called Mirmidons at this time, and now are called Bulgarians” (Comment: Mirmidons were from Epirus and Thessalia, and Thraco-Illyrians. We are talking here BC, not newcomers from AD!).
@spa05akw There is no Byzantine historian named Joan Malala. Ok Thrax was the son of Hares GREEK god of war. There are no proofs of an ancient Thracian language no scripts nothing. You are based on air. Also Europe is a woman of Greek myths whose name was given to the continent. Bulgarian came in the region centuries after Christ. The Greeks came in the region from Prehistoric times. You have no evidense idiot. Achilles and his army were Greek get over it branwashed idiot.
The Chinese called The Bulgarians BAO GUO. It means not that BAO GUO are Chinese. Greeks called their non-Greek neighbours "THRACIANS". It means not that THRACIANS were "Greeks". Arabs called the Bulgarians BURDJAN. It means not that BURDJANS were "Arabs", etc. My my, how you poeple can be so stupid. Use your brains little bit better, cause you vomit CRAP all the time. But again, your are brainwashed with FAKE history and fed with Old anti- Propaganda.
Unfortunatelly for you (because your books must be FAKE):
1. Ancient THRACIANS = ancient BULGARIANS! The word is NOT "Greek", but HEBREW!
2. Germany in Swedish is TYSKLAND. It means not that Germans are Swedish. Same goes for Thracian word. It does not matter if it is "greek". Thracians are not "Greeks. Words does not proof anything.
3. There exist no "Slavic" ethnic people - NEVER existed!
4. Macedonia is historically Bulgarian since the begining of time - and always will be!
@spa05akw bulgarians came in balkans in 600 ad according to all the historians in the world by thracians greeks meant the geographical region where lived greks ilirian celts and dacians none of them is bulgarian read some wikipedia not only your brainwashing propaganda
@spa05akw Slavic tribes who settled in the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula in the 6th century bc assimilated to a large extent the local Thracian culture, which had roots in the 4th century bc, and formed a basic ethnic group. The Bulgars, who established the first Bulgarian state in 681, formed another component. With the gradual obliteration of fragmented Slavic tribes, Bulgars and Slavs coalesced into a unified people who became known as Bulgarians
NOW I SEE THAT YOU CANNOT READ, OR DIDN´T FINISH THE HIGH-SCHOOL. YOU CANNOT COUNT simple MATHEMATIC NUMBERS. BULGARIA is on the Byzantine map already from 165 AD – that is around 500 years earlier than 600 AD. So who the fuck told you that Bulgarians are from 600 and newcomers?! JUST LIERS!
@spa05akw hahahaha ok you a comedian or a totaly retard byzantine empire on 165 ad :) Emperor Constantine I's transfer in 324 of the capital from Nicomedia (in Anatolia) to Byzantium on the Bosphorus, which became Constantinople, "City of Constantine" (alternatively "New Rome").[n 1] The Roman Empire was finally divided in 395 AD
after the division the east empire was known to us today as byzantine empire now show us a post of any map of 165 ad with the name bulgaria or stfu you idiot
• Enodius of Titsan (473 - 524) wrote that “…Bulgarians are old Moesian or Illyrian people” (Hence OLD!)
• Anonymous Ravenna Cosmograph (VI-VII) informs that ages before 375-376 South of the Danube river “…in Moesia, Thrace and Macedonia live only Bulgarians” (Hence ONLY!). NO GREEKS! NO SLAVS! NO ALBANS!
In Moesia, Thrace and Macedonia LIVE ONLY BULGARIANS! NO GO TO SCHOOL AND LEARN HOW TO USE MATHEMATICS! You must learn addition and minus calculation.
@spa05akw my source now is britannica is that another propaganda encyclopedia?
anyway as a professor you claim you are educate us link here some of your research that says that even south thracian and trojans all of them having greek names greek religuion and city names have anything to do with your slav names and language
THERE EXIST NO SLAVIC ETHNIC NATION AND NEVER EXISTED. Only in your imagination caused by “official” pseudo Charlatans and Manipulators of history making imaginary theory of not existent “Slavs”. No “Slavs” had absorbed any Bulgarian lands – pseudo Baltic minority was absorbed by Bulgarians!
The history CLEARLY STATES that Bulgarians are OLDEST and LOCAL! The history starts with INITIAL sources - not your NEW Propagandistic and Charlatanic books. Use your brains! I repeat, History is INITIAL/ORIGINAL sources. And we also have own Thracian sources and most important, which also states that Bulgarians are OLDEST and GREATEST! Further, no single Latin/Byzantine sourse says that Bulgarians are pseudo "newcomers"!
@spa05akw at least it wasnt your school 5 hours of propaganda and fake history and no brain cells left for anything else
so as the academician( and not academitian you idiot) you call yourself how about you post some proofs here of your research as you call it about bulgarians existing in balkans before 600 ad?
unless all that research is in your retard brain ;)
what is your academitian opinion about britabnnica encyclopedia? is that propaganda too?
(Comment: There was already Bulgaria on Balkans, as a Province, 500 years before Khan Asparuhs Bulgarians came to Moesia – the official date for these “newcomers”).
• François Mitterrand (France): "The Bulgarians stand at the basis of human civilization."
Aha, the Thracian king Sitalkes (500-400 BC) states that Bulgarians are OLDEST and GOD`S first chosen people. BULGARIANS are ancient LOCAL THRACO-ILLYRIANS and MACEDONIANS! Do not steal Bulgarian history, fucking Fyromanians! It will not help you to look for Western Charlatans and Manipulators of history, because you can Never change history!
• According to Mohamad Ahmed Amin (Ambasssador of Iraq in Bulgaria, 1995): “…old books, which describe how, on the road of silk, the caravans reached thestraits of the Dardanelles. Europe was called the country of the Bulgarians”.
• According to Magnus Felix Ennodius (473-521) Bulgarians are Old Thraco-Ilyrians.
• Joan Malala (Byzantine source) wrote in the VI century about the Troyan war: “And Achilles departed with the Artidies, […] army of 3000 people, who were called Mirmidons at this time, and now are called Bulgarians” (Comment: Mirmidons were from Epirus and Thessalia, and Thraco-Illyrians. We are talking here BC, not newcomers from AD!).
• Joan Tzetzets claims that Bulgarians took part in the Troyan war.
DO NOT BOTHER ME UNTILL YOU HAVE LEARNED HOW TO READ AND HOW TO CALCULATE SIMPLE MATHEMATIC NUMBERS. INITIAL SOURCES STATES THAT BULGARIANS ARE OLDEST AND LOCAL! End of discussion.
• According to Laonicus Chalkondyles (1423 – 1490), the Triballians (Thracian tribe) were the MOST ANCIENT and greatest of all nations. He said: “They are now being called Bulgarians” (Op. cit, col. 26). N.B. (Comment: Strabo confirms that Triballians were Thracians. And Dio Cassius considered Triballians and the Dardanians as Mysians (Bulgarians). Mysians is same as Moesian. All ancient sources do not differ between Moesians and Bulgarians).
@spa05akw 1 the word is greek according to all the historians in the world but the bulgarian ones and it means the red hair ones
anyway even alexander the great when he talks about the greeks and the allies in his campain he talks about thrackian allies as if they were not greeks according to britannica ancyclopedia ancient thrackians were illirians celts dacians and GREEKS living in south thrackie since 800bc names as spartakos and orpheus known as one of the argonautes
FIRST OF ALL, I AM BETTER ACADEMICIAN THAN YOUR PAYED PSEUDO HISTORIANS. I AM INDEPENDENT, SO YOU CAN LEARN FROM ME AND NOT THE OPPOSITE! YOUR SOURCES ARE A BIG LIE!
Aha, and your stupid sources have no sources. No "official" books/Encyclopedians have ever shown any sources. So your theory is WORTHLESS! So do not try to be smarter than me, dude.
@spa05akw 2 also greeks ase the most civilazied and ancient people in balkan named the rest of you slavs and educated you with cyrilic alphabet in 800 ad
3 noone said about slavic nation is slavic tribes gogle britannica ancyclopediaor wikipedia
4 you guys fighting with slav macedonia about it is really doing our job for us but since most slavomacedonians apply for a bulgarian citizenship nowdays problem solved
You also mention Britanica. What ever it is that is "official" is mostly a LIE. Official history is a LIE and UPP SIDE DOWN. You must do own research and follow Independant researchers who EXPOSE the Charlatans and LIERS who wrote the FAKE official history. Thanks to God, there is a lot of evidence left and the LIERS are Transparent Cockroaches.
@spa05akw Generally described as an ancient Greek people,[1] they gradually expanded from their homeland along the Haliacmon valley on the northern edge of the Greek world, absorbing various neighbouring tribes during this process (primarily Thracian and Illyrian).[2][3] Although composed of various clans, the Kingdom of Macedon, established around the 8th century BC, is mostly associated with the Argeads
(argeads from Peloponessian Argos.or the Orestian Argos)
• Jordanes and Comes Marcelinus called Bulgarians “Illyrians”, but Ennodius called them now simply “Bulgarians”. Calling them Bulgarians, Ennodius confirmed what was written by previous and older author, Jeronim, about Moesia – calling “Misia” Bulgaria.
• According to Priest Spiridon (1792): “King Bolg ordered the peoples to call themselves after his name – Bolgars. This is the time when the Illyrians called themselves Bolgars”.
ние МАКЕДОНЦИТЕ за една црвена му ги даваме куројте на татарките да си ги пикнат во гз и во тие пет минути не смеат да прднат ако прднат се пофторува поново истата постапка

How is Macedonia Greek ...The Alexsander and macedonia population spoke albanian...How is Alexsander Greek ..he didn't speak Greek .he learned greek from Aristoteli. The Greek historian wrote ..Alexsander spoke Ilirik=Albanian.
It is very easy to show some specific maps and extracts of scripts that they have been chosen either to mislead the audience, or have just been created nowadays for wicked purposes.
If you slav citizens do not search and read the facts by yourselves, please do not state and repeat words that you hear from your misleading "education" without valid arguments.
@margie525 what do expect of them,,,they dont even have a real counrty,a real language what ever they have its stolen from other countries and cultures.these people are good for nothing.
Read History-Macedonia is a Greek word-The Greeks were here first-slavic propoganda and the theft of Greece's History will not pass-The world knows the slavs have nothing to do with the Ancient Macedonians-The slavs are treacherous thiefs of Greece's History and they will pay for it one day
Bulgarians are not even Slaves just happen to speak Slaves language form the local Slaves. So lacking your own positive history your are stealing ours
Bulgarians are not even Slaves just happen to speak Slaves language form the local Slaves. So lacking your own positive history your are stealing ours.
"We are Bulgarian more than the Bulgarians in Bulgaria. The population of Skopje is pure Bulgarian. The Serbian not only want to colonize Macedonia with Serbs from other part of Yugoslavia, but they wish to kill our Bulgarian consciousness.
They took our right to call ourselves Bulgarians, even Macedonians, they intrude their schools and education, so much false and Jesuit, so much as the study of St. Sava and finally they come to the idea for the special Macedonian nationality, which they discover in South Macedonia." - Krste Misirkov ("The father of Macedonia")
Alexander was of illyrian descent..ancient macedonia was under illyrian influence..if you read the book by english historian Sir William Woodthorpe..you will see that his mother Olympia was albanian from epirus and his father philip was of illyrian descent...if the greeks hated alexander and his people then why do they know EMBRACE him as there own???? HE WAS NOT GREEK!
for information to viewers Krste Misirkov was Bulgarian, was recently found his diary which he himself wrote this ... from there already granted everything is a lie

[1] "Alexander meanwhile dealt swiftly with the unrest in Greece - not only did the Athenians rejoice at Philip’s death, but the Aetolians, the Thebans, as well as Spartans and the Peloponnesians, were ready to throw off the Macedonian yoke. (Diod. 17.3.3-5) - and he
marched south into Thessaly, demanding the loyalty of its people in the name of their common ancestors, Achilles (Justin 11.3.1-2; cf. Diod. 17.4.1). And with speed and diplomacy Alexander brought the Thebans and Athenians into submission (Diod. 17.4.4-6) [p.20]
[The "unrest in Greece" encompasses all the city-states in Greece. These city-states were ready to throw off the Macedonian yoke. Here we have a clear delineation between Greek city-
states, who were the conquered party, and Macedonia, the conqueror. This quote in a very unambiguous way illustrates how pitiful and ridiculous is the modern Greeks’ position when they claim, or equate, Macedonia as being one of, or the same as, the Greek city states. "Thebans and Athenians into submission" means one thing: Greece was won by the spear; it was a war of conquest. Therefore, modern Greeks’ position that Alexander "united" the Greek
Bottom line is, that there was no "unification" of the Greek states by Alexander or his father Philip II. When one "unifies" one does not force submission of the subjects. When one unifies, there is no "yoke" to be thrown off.]
[2] "It was decided to raze the city to the ground as a lesson to all Greek states which contemplated rebellion." [p.21] [Point of interest: "as a lesson to all Greek states". This
statement indicates that Macedonia was not, and could not be included in Greece, for Macedonia was the one "giving" the lesson.]
[3] "Alexander also referred to his father, Philip, conqueror of Athenians, and recalled to their minds the recent conquest of Boeotia and the annihilation of its best known city." [p.41]
4] Alexander, in a letter, responds to Darius: "His Majesty Alexander to Darius: Greetings. The Darius whose name you have assumed wrought utter destruction upon the Greek inhabitants of the Hellespontine coast and upon the Greek colonies of Ionia, and then crossed the sea with a mighty army, bringing the war to Macedonia and Greece." [p.50-1] [Alexander here himself clearly separates Greece from Macedonia]
[5] "From here the Macedonians crossed to Mitylene which had been recently seized by the Athenian Chares, and was now held by him with a garrison of Persians, 2,000 strong. Unable to withstand the siege, Chares surrendered the city on condition that he be allowed to leave in safety, after which he made for Imbros. The Macedonians spared those who surrender." [p.63]
"Athenian" Chares with 2,000 of Persian soldiers fighting against Alexander’s Macedonians. Another example of Greeks fighting against Macedonia. If this was a war to revenge Greece from Persia, Greeks would have not have fighting on the side of the Persians against the Macedonians. The truth is that they hated the Macedonians more for conquering Greece, then they did the Persians.]
6] "There is a report that, after the king had completed the Macedonian custom of marking out the circular boundary for the future city-walls with barley-meal, flocks of birds flew down and fed on the barley. Many regarded this as unfavorable omen, but the verdict of the seers was that the city would have a large immigrant population and would provide the means of livelihood to many countries." [p.69] [The Macedonians had their own distinct customs]
7] "As it happened, Alexander had been sent from Macedonia a present of Macedonian clothes and a large quantity of purple material." [p.97] [Macedonian clothes, and purple material. (Macedonian customs 2) Macedonians dressed differently than the Greeks. One very peculiar feature being the kautsia, the well known Macedonian hat.]
[8] "...but the king’s conscience would not permit him to leave his men unburied, for by Macedonian convention there is hardly any duty in military life as binding as burial of one’s dead." [p.100]
[9] Inflamed with greed for kingship, Bessus and Nabarzanes now decided to carry out the plan they had long been hatching. [The plot to kill Darius the III.] "If, as they feared, Alexander
rejected their treacherous overtures, they would murder Darius and head for Bactria with the troops of their own people. However, open arrest of Darius was impossible because the Persians, many thousands strong would come to the aid of their king, and the loyalty of the Greeks also caused apprehension." [p.111] [The Greeks remained loyal to Persia and against Alexander and his Macedonians to the end]
9] Patron, the Greek commander, speaks with Darius: "Your Majesty", said Patron, "we few are all that remain of 50,000 Greeks. We were all with you in your more fortunate days, and in your present situation we remain as we were when you were prospering, ready to make for and to accept as our country and our home any lands you choose. We and you have been drawn together both by your prosperity and your adversity. By this inviolable loyalty of ours I
beg and beseech you: pitch your tent in our area of the camp and let us be your bodyguards. We have left Greece behind; for us there is no Bactria; our hopes rest entirely in you - I wish that were true of the others also! Further talk serves no purpose. As a foreigner born of another race I should not be asking for the responsibility of guarding your person if I thought anyone else could do it." [p.112-13]
[50,000 strong Greeks were with Darius fighting the Macedonians, while Alexander took only 7,000 Greeks next to his Macedonians which served as "hostages" and "were potential trouble makers", (Green) which he got rid of only when he learned that the rebellion in Greece against the Macedonian occupation forces there was suppressed (Badian, Borza). The fact that
50,000 Greeks were fighting Alexander’s Macedonians shows clearly that their loyalty and their numerical superiority lies with Darius and his Persians, not with Alexander and his Macedonians. As Peter Green puts it: "if this was a Greek conquest where were the Greek troops?" Alexander’s conquest can not therefore be at all a Greek conquest, but simply a Macedonian conquest.]
[10] "Men! If you consider the scale of our achievements, your longing for peace and your weariness of brilliant campaigns are not at all surprising. Let me pass over the Illyrians, the Triballians, Boeotia, Thrace, Sparta, the Aecheans, the Peloponnese - all of them subdued under my direct leadership or by campaigns conducted under my orders of instructions." [p.121-22]
11] "In capital cases it was a long-established Macedonian practice for the king to conduct the trial while the army (or the commons in peace-time) acted as jury, and the position of the king counted for nothing unless his influence had been substantial prior to the trial." [p.135] [Another Macedonian custom]
12] Alexander speaks: "The Macedonians are going to judge your case," he said. "Please state whether you will use your native language before them."
Philotas: "Besides the Macedonians, there are many present who, I think, will find what I am going to say easier to understand if I use the language you yourself have been using, your purpose, I believe, being only to enable more people to understand you."
Then the king said: "Do you see how offensive Philotas find even his native language? He alone feels an aversion to learning it. But let him speak as he pleases - only remember he as contemptuous of our way of life as he is of our language." [p.138]
[This is again Alexander himself clearly separates the Macedonian as an independent language and the Macedonian way of life, from the Greek language and the Greek way of life which Philotas had referred to be the diplomatic language in the Macedonian court]
13] "The general feeling was that Philotas should be stoned to death according to Macedonian customs, but Hephaestion, Craterus, and Coenus declared that torture should be employed to force the truth out of him, and those who had advocated other punishment went over to their view." [p.142] [Another Macedonian custom]
14] "What they feared was the Macedonian law which provided the death penalty also for relatives of people who had plotted against the king." [p.143]
[15] "While Alexander was in stationary camp here, reports arrived from Greece of the insurrection of the Peloponnesians and the Laconians." [Alexander learns about the revolt of the Greeks against the Macedonians]
[1] "Destiny had decreed that Macedon should wrest the sovereignty of Asia from Persia, as Persia once had wrested it from the Medes, and the Medes, in turn, from the Assyrians." [p. 111]
2] "Our enemies are Medes and Persians, men who for centuries have lived soft and luxurious lives; we of Macedon for generations past have been trained in the hard school of danger and war. Above all, we are free men, and they are slaves." [p.112
3] "When received the report that Alexander was moving forward to the attack, he sent some 30,000 mounted troops and 20,000 light infantry across the river Pinarus, to give himself a chance of getting the main body of his army into position without molestation. His dispositions were as follows:
in the van of his heavy infantry were his 30,000 Greek mercenaries, facing the Macedonian infantry, with some 60,000 Persian heavy infantry- known as Kardakes." [p.114]
4] [Book II - Battle of Issus] "Darius' Greeks fought to thrust the Macedonians back into the water and save the day for their left wing, already in retreat, while the Macedonians, in their turn, with Alexander's triumph plain before their eyes, were determined to equal his success and not forfeit the proud title of invincible, hitherto universally bestowed upon them. The fight was further embittered by the old racial rivalry of Greek and Macedonian." [p.119]
5] "The cavalry action which ensued was desperate enough, and the Persians broke only when they knew that the Greek mercenaries were being cut and destroyed by the Macedonian infantry." [p.119-20]
6] "The same painstaking attention to details is evident in administrative matters. Appointments of governors are duly mentioned, and throughout his book Arrian is careful to give the father's name in the case of Macedonians, e.g. Ptolemy son of Lagus, and in the case of Greeks their city of origin." [p.25]
7] "In the spring of 334 Alexander set out from Macedonia, leaving Antipater with 12,000 infantry and 1,500 cavalry to defend the homeland and to keep watch on the Greek states." [p.34]
[8] "The backbone of the infantry was the Macedonian heavy infantry, the 'Foot Companions', organized on territorial basis in six battalions (taxeis) of about 1,500 men each. In place of the nine-foot spear carried by the Greek hoplite, the Macedonian infantryman was armed with a
circular shield was slung on the left shoulder, and was smaller than that carried by the Greek hoplite which demanded the use of the left arm. Both, Greek and Macedonian infantry wore greaves and a helmet, but it is possible that the Macedonians did not wear a breastplate. The phalanx (a heavy infantry), like all the Macedonian troops had been brought by Philip to a remarkable standard of training and discipline." [p.35]
[9] Modern Greeks, have used this particular passage as evidence of Alexander's greekness. Alexander sent to Athens, as an offering to the goddess Athena, 300 full suits of Persian armor, with the following inscription:
"Alexander, son of Philip, and the Greeks (except the Lacedaemonians) dedicate these spoils, taken from the Persians who dwell in Asia." [p.76]
"It came to pass, that during the absence of exertion on the part of the Greeks, the name of the Macedonians, previously mean and obscure, rose into notice; and Philip, who bad been kept three years as a hostage at Thebes, and had been imbued with the virtues of Epaminondas and Pelopidas, imposed power of Macedonia, like a yoke of bondage, upon the necks of Greece and Asia" [6.9].
"Philip assigned the number of troops to be furnished by each state and only the King of Macedonia will be the commander of their forces. Weather Macedonia was attacked or was in a war with any other power, the Greek troops assigned by Philip had to support the Macedonian army and serve under him as their general. It's obvious that Philip had Persia in mind and knew that this is the point that obligated the Greeks to serve his dream of
conquering that empire. The Macedonian army, which will have the exclusive status, was to be supported by the Greek army and by the armies of the adjacent conquered nations" [9.5.5-8].
"Antipater was appointed governor of Macedonia and Greece" [13.4.5]
"After the death of Pyrrhus there were great warlike commotions not only in Macedonia, but in Asia and Greece" [26.1.1]
When Alexander conquered the Greeks hi said " I'M Geek, when he conquered Persia hi said said " I'M PERSIAN " and when hi conquered Egypt hi said I'M EGYPSIAN. Reason behind was to be accepted as thy own king and leave the kingdom intact but with out thy army. Alexander was taking thy army to go end fight other wars against other countries and shared the sexes amongst all participants
George Washington in one of his speeches said " Sometime you can lie to some of the people. Sometime you can lie to whole of the people . But you can never lie to whole the people at whale the times" If you greeks know what that means it will be better to stop lieing now. @1976gs [38] Philip threatens the Greek Thessalians: "They were not aware, he said, that the Macedonian sun had not yet altogether set." 29.16.1-2
[39] He said, namely, that after seeing the sun rise as he was about to begin transporting his army from Italy to Greece… five day later he arrived in Macedonia. 31-11.2-4
[40] Having as his accomplice a certain harpist named Nicolaus, a Macedonian by birth… 32.15.9
@1976gs 37] In defense of the settlement made with Nabis he (Flamininus) pointed out that the Romans had done what was in their power, and that in accordance with the declared policy of the Roman people all the inhabitants of Greece were now free (of Macedonia), ungarrisoned, and most important of all, governed by their own laws. 28.13.3
@1976gs [33] A native of Terentum, Heracleides was a man of surprising wickedness, who had transformed Philip from a victorious king into a harsh and godless tyrant, and had thereby incurred the deep hatred of all Macedonians AND Greeks. 28.9.2
[34] Flamininus held that Philip (the Macedonian king) must completely evacuate Greece, which should thereafter be ungarrisoned and autonomous. 28.11.1
@1976gs 31] Brennus, the king of the Gauls … invaded Macedonia and engaged in battle. Having in this conflict lost many man .. as lacking sufficient strength … when later he advanced into Greece and to the oracle of Delphi which he wished to plunder. 22.9.1-2
@1976gs 30] The utmost spirit or rivalry was not lacking on either side, for the Macedonians were bent on saving their ships, while the Siceliotes wished not only to be regarded as victors over the Carthaginians and the barbarians of Italy, but also to show themselves in the Greek arena as more then a match for the Macedonians, whose spears had subjected both Asia and Europe. 21.2.2
@Patriotism1000 DEAR "friend"u look like a person who tries too much to say something...but you ve lost the point...the think is that your kritiria with your studing or reading or ressearching is doing with these modern times and habits...you ve lost your way...you can not understand that in the ancient time it was a "topic" way of thinking ...in "small' way...small interests and thinking the way of small kingdoms,or cities-states...that is why u dont understand that the origin of siceliotes,
@Patriotism1000... ionian cities of asia minor, colonies of black see, from southern spain, from southern italy (great hellas) athenians, spartans, nafpaktians, thessalians, corinthians, thessalonikeis and rest of true macedonians were,is and will be all part of GREEK origin...it is simple...u dont understand that even the trojans were in fact Greeks who lived in Troy...you propably believe that the war was because of Helen...Wake up man...all writing of yours is without a clue...
@Patriotism1000 Greeks was the word then to identify the hellines who fought persians...macedonians are hellines too...wake up...even alexander and his father did this war against persians like agisilaos before them as a revenge of all Greeks...but never forget that every Greek man ,athenian,or from peloponnisus first wish to be independed...think about it...good night...
@1976gs [29] While these held office, Cassander, king of the Macedonians, on seeing that the power of the Greeks was increasing and that the whole war was directed against Macedonia, became much alarmed about the future. 20.106.1-2
[30] Demetrius was followed by 1500 horsemen, not less then 8000 Macedonian foot-soldiers, mercenaries to the number of 15000, 2500 from the cities throughout Greece. 20.110.4
@1976gs 25] In this year Antigonus ordered his general Ptolemaeus into Greece to set the Greeks free… 19.77.2
[26] Ptolemaeus, the general of Antigonus, had been placed in charge of affairs thoughout Greece; 19.87.3 (not in Macedonia).
[27] This was the situation in Asia and in Greece AND Macedonia. 19.105.4
[28] And first he planned to establish order in the affairs of Greece … and then go on against Macedonia itself if Cassander did not march against him. 20.102.1
@1976gs [23] Although the risk involved in all these circumstances was clear, nonetheless she decided to remain there, hoping that many Greeks AND Macedonians would come to her aid by sea. 19.35.6.
[24] Then, after making a truce with the other Boeotians and leaving Eupolemus as general for Greece, he went into Macedonia, for he was apprehensive of the enemy’s crossings. 19.77.5-6
@1976gs [21] Seleucus and Pithon again tried to persuade the Macedonians to remove Eumenes from his command and to cease preferring against their own interests a man who was a foreigner and who had killed very many Macedonians. 19.13.1
[22] Peucestes (Macedonian commander) had 10000 Persian archers and slingers, 3000 men of every origin equipped for service in the Macedonian array, 600 Greek and Thracian cavalry and more then 400 Persian horsemen. 19.14.5.
@1976gs 19] Then after such a combat I have described, the battle was broken off, as the scales of victory swung in favour of the Macedonians. More then 500 of the Greeks were killed in the battle, and 130 of the Macedonians. 18.17.5
[20] The commandant of the garrison of that city, Archelaus, who was a Macedonian by RACE, welcomed Attalus and surrendered the city to him… 18.37.3-4.
@1976gs 17] As the Macedonians defended themselves stoutly, many of the Greeks who pushed on rashly were killed. 18.12.1-2
[18] Antiphilus, the Greek commander, having defeated the Macedonians in a glorious battle played a waiting game, remaining in Thessaly and watching for the enemy to move. The affairs of the Greeks were thus in thriving condition, but since the Macedonians had command of the sea, the Athenians made ready other ships… 18.15.7-8.
@1976gs [15] As soon as, however, as he learned of the movement concerted against him by the Greeks, he left Sippas as general of Macedonia, giving him a significant army and bidding him enlist as many men as possible, while he himself, taking 13000 Macedonians and 600 horsemen, set out from Macedonia to Thessaly (into Greece). 18.12.2
[16] Now that this great force had been added to the Athenians, the Greeks, who far outnumbered the Macedonians, were successful. 18.12.4

Modern Bulgarian historiography claims that the Bulgar conquest of Macedonia transformed the Macedonians in Macedonia into Bulgarians. The claim is ridiculous.
a) There is NO recorded settlement of Bulgars in Macedonia
Macedonia1ful 1 month ago
b) Because it was a temporary conquest it is impossible to imagine that the Macedonians suddenly "evolved" into Bulgarians. The case is identical with Serbia since the Bulgarian armies also conquered that country. The Serbians as we know did not turn into Bulgarians either.
Macedonia1ful 1 month ago
c) The Romans held Macedonia for more than 12 centuries.

@spa05akw in every encyclopedia you can read:
, after their defeat by the Khazars, another Bulgar tribe, led by Khan Asparuh, moved westward, occupying today's Southern Bessarabia. After a successful war with Byzantium in AD 680, Asparuh's khanate conquered Moesia and Dobrudja [28][29] and was recognised as an independent state under the subsequent treaty signed with the Byzantine Empire in AD 681. The same year is usually regarded as the year of the establishment of present-day Bulgaria
vharry 3 months ago

Thracians were the main component of the army and the commanders of Alexander the Great (about 20 000 men). NO. Greeks came after the Bulgarians many centuries after. Bulgarians are the OLDEST - they are the ancient Thracians and Autoctonic. @spa05akw Slavic tribes who settled in the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula in the 6th century bc assimilated to a large extent the local Thracian culture, which had roots in the 4th century bc, and formed a basic ethnic group.

@spa05akw so you saying that in 500 bc a thracian king was using the word bulgarians that is a mix of the word bulgars and slavians?
do you have any artifacts to back that up ? only in your imagination the word bulgar was first used for the first bulgar state in 681 ad

Roman Historian
The History of Alexander - Penguin Classics
Translation by John Yardley
[1] "Alexander meanwhile dealt swiftly with the unrest in Greece - not only did the Athenians rejoice at Philip’s death, but the Aetolians, the Thebans, as well as Spartans and the Peloponnesians, were ready to throw off the Macedonian yoke. (Diod. 17.3.3-5) - and he
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
marched south into Thessaly, demanding the loyalty of its people in the name of their common ancestors, Achilles (Justin 11.3.1-2; cf. Diod. 17.4.1). And with speed and diplomacy Alexander brought the Thebans and Athenians into submission (Diod. 17.4.4-6) [p.20]
[The "unrest in Greece" encompasses all the city-states in Greece. These city-states were ready to throw off the Macedonian yoke. Here we have a clear delineation between Greek city-
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
states, who were the conquered party, and Macedonia, the conqueror.
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
Bottom line is, that there was no "unification" of the Greek states by Alexander or his father Philip II. When one "unifies" one does not force submission of the subjects. When one unifies, there is no "yoke" to be thrown off.]
[2] "It was decided to raze the city to the ground as a lesson to all Greek states which contemplated rebellion." [p.21] [Point of interest: "as a lesson to all Greek states". This
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
statement indicates that Macedonia was not, and could not be included in Greece, for Macedonia was the one "giving" the lesson.]
[3] "Alexander also referred to his father, Philip, conqueror of Athenians, and recalled to their minds the recent conquest of Boeotia and the annihilation of its best known city." [p.41]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
4] Alexander, in a letter, responds to Darius: "His Majesty Alexander to Darius: Greetings. The Darius whose name you have assumed wrought utter destruction upon the Greek inhabitants of the Hellespontine coast and upon the Greek colonies of Ionia, and then crossed the sea with a mighty army, bringing the war to Macedonia and Greece." [p.50-1] [Alexander here himself clearly separates Greece from Macedonia]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
[5] "From here the Macedonians crossed to Mitylene which had been recently seized by the Athenian Chares, and was now held by him with a garrison of Persians, 2,000 strong. Unable to withstand the siege, Chares surrendered the city on condition that he be allowed to leave in safety, after which he made for Imbros. The Macedonians spared those who surrender." [p.63]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
"Athenian" Chares with 2,000 of Persian soldiers fighting against Alexander’s Macedonians. Another example of Greeks fighting against Macedonia. If this was a war to revenge Greece from Persia, Greeks would have not have fighting on the side of the Persians against the Macedonians. The truth is that they hated the Macedonians more for conquering Greece, then they did the Persians.]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
6] "There is a report that, after the king had completed the Macedonian custom of marking out the circular boundary for the future city-walls with barley-meal, flocks of birds flew down and fed on the barley. Many regarded this as unfavorable omen, but the verdict of the seers was that the city would have a large immigrant population and would provide the means of livelihood to many countries." [p.69] [The Macedonians had their own distinct customs]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
7] "As it happened, Alexander had been sent from Macedonia a present of Macedonian clothes and a large quantity of purple material." [p.97] [Macedonian clothes, and purple material. (Macedonian customs 2) Macedonians dressed differently than the Greeks. One very peculiar feature being the kautsia, the well known Macedonian hat.]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
[8] "...but the king’s conscience would not permit him to leave his men unburied, for by Macedonian convention there is hardly any duty in military life as binding as burial of one’s dead." [p.100]
[9] Inflamed with greed for kingship, Bessus and Nabarzanes now decided to carry out the plan they had long been hatching. [The plot to kill Darius the III.] "If, as they feared, Alexander
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
rejected their treacherous overtures, they would murder Darius and head for Bactria with the troops of their own people. However, open arrest of Darius was impossible because the Persians, many thousands strong would come to the aid of their king, and the loyalty of the Greeks also caused apprehension." [p.111] [The Greeks remained loyal to Persia and against Alexander and his Macedonians to the end]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
9] Patron, the Greek commander, speaks with Darius: "Your Majesty", said Patron, "we few are all that remain of 50,000 Greeks. We were all with you in your more fortunate days, and in your present situation we remain as we were when you were prospering, ready to make for and to accept as our country and our home any lands you choose. We and you have been drawn together both by your prosperity and your adversity. By this inviolable loyalty of ours I
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
beg and beseech you: pitch your tent in our area of the camp and let us be your bodyguards.
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
[50,000 strong Greeks were with Darius fighting the Macedonians, while Alexander took only 7,000 Greeks next to his Macedonians which served as "hostages" and "were potential trouble makers", (Green) which he got rid of only when he learned that the rebellion in Greece against the Macedonian occupation forces there was suppressed (Badian, Borza). The fact that
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
50,000 Greeks were fighting Alexander’s Macedonians shows clearly that their loyalty and their numerical superiority lies with Darius and his Persians, not with Alexander and his Macedonians. As Peter Green puts it: "if this was a Greek conquest where were the Greek troops?" Alexander’s conquest can not therefore be at all a Greek conquest, but simply a Macedonian conquest.]

[p.135] [Another Macedonian custom]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
12] Alexander speaks: "The Macedonians are going to judge your case," he said. "Please state whether you will use your native language before them."
Philotas: "Besides the Macedonians, there are many present who, I think, will find what I am going to say easier to understand if I use the language you yourself have been using, your purpose, I believe, being only to enable more people to understand you."
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
Then the king said: "Do you see how offensive Philotas find even his native language? He alone feels an aversion to learning it. But let him speak as he pleases - only remember he as contemptuous of our way of life as he is of our language." [p.138]
Patriotism1000 1 year ago
[This is again Alexander himself clearly separates the Macedonian as an independent language and the Macedonian way of life, from the Greek language and the Greek way of life which Philotas had referred to be the diplomatic language in the Macedonian court]

Patriotism1000 1 year ago
4] [Book II - Battle of Issus] "Darius' Greeks fought to thrust the Macedonians back into the water and save the day for their left wing, already in retreat, while the Macedonians, in their turn, with Alexander's triumph plain before their eyes, were determined to equal his success and not forfeit the proud title of invincible, hitherto universally bestowed upon them. The fight was further embittered by the old racial rivalry of Greek and Macedonian." [p.119]

circular shield was slung on the left shoulder, and was smaller than that carried by the Greek hoplite which demanded the use of the left arm.
