Quick Two Tech Retarded Questions: I have the 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MBP from Mid 2009 running 10.6.4. It currently has the stock 4 GB of memory. If I purchase Another 4 GBs, 1. Can I put then in the second slot, but keep the stock memory in, creating 8 GBs? Also, can the 2.53 GHz processor support 8 GBs of memory?
@RagingNarwhal Check your system profiler to be sure, but the MacBook Pro 15" Mis 2009 came stock with two 2GB memory modules - for a total of 4GB. As the machine only has two memory slots, you would have to remove the existing memory and replace with two 4GB memory modules to max the machine at 8GB.
In our videos, you'll notice the blue work surface we're filming on, this is an Electrostatic Discharge Mat (ESD). But for the occasional upgrade, you don't need to go to that extent. Two simple ways to discharge static electricity: Take your keys in your hand and touch them to another metal surface near your workspace. Anti-static dryer sheets also work just as well on you as they do on your laundry. After sitting down to work, rub one on your arms & hands to collect the static electricity.
This tutorial is only let down by not showing how to check that all of the ram is being addressed properly.

@OWCmacsales Would it be possible to only remove one of the two GB chips, than put a new 4 GB chip in its place, ultimately creating 6 GB?
RagingNarwhal 1 year ago
@RagingNarwhal Absolutely.

@OWCmacsales Alright. Thank you very much.

I have a 15' macbook pro 4gm memory. Is it ok if i get a 4gb single chip, then just replace my 2gb chip? That'll equal to 6gb memory.

Yes. For a link to compatible memory for your MacBook Pro see the more info section in the upper right.

I'm a little confused about something, how do you "discharge static electricity" and can you give me an example of a static free surface
