One of the most difficult things to NOT to project our short comings & negative attitudes onto others. I've noticed how easy it is to have someone insist you are something that you honestly don't believe you are. When that happens, the best strategy is to not resort to a reflexive, angry response imo, but to try to be see why the situation occurred; to own what you may have contributed, but to not just accept insults, rumours, misrepresentation without trying dispassionately to address them.
(2) and if that strategy is met with more insults and misrepresentations the only sane thing to do is to go on to other things and avoid interactions with those doing the insulting. It's not easy, but it can be very liberating.
The world is full of interesting things to explore, so wasting time going over and over the same poisoned ground might be satisfying as ego reinforcement, but it never really gets anyone anywhere imho.
@2bsirius I agree. Some of the difficulties lie in a) assessing when it's wise to open your mouth b) how to respond if there's a major reaction in response and c) what is wise to learn from that. In any encounter there are at least 2 people, and as soon as blame starts being apportioned, or responsibility for ones feelings to lie justifiably with someone else the plot is lost. In these situations the best we can do is work out our part and what we can learn, and leave any other (more)
@Loreleila to do the same, unless both see benefit in continuing a dialogue. I struggle to know how far to move away, and how permanently. I'm not prepared to be anyones whipping boy, though I'm happy to see my own frailties, blindnesses and foibles. That can be expressed without violence. Being raged at or abused is never acceptable though, nor helpful. Anger can be a great motivator and creator of change when used wisely, or a destructive force no one wants to be near.
(3) Yes, the hardest thing in the world is not to react to anger with anger and not to resort to some sort of unconscious passive aggressive response when you try to do that.
It'll be great when [and if] we can figure out how to engage in a productive and non-corrosive passion for change that isn't dependent on non-productive anger.
I'll stop comment spamming now...Big thumb up. Thanks for thinking.
@2bsirius "It'll be great when [and if] we can figure out how to engage in a productive and non-corrosive passion for change that isn't dependent on non-productive anger."
It's difficult to disengage when you know the misrepresentation will continue without your memory of events or your input even being considered, but when it's futile, it's futile and sometimes the only way out is via the door, which means you have to tolerate the chattering and the revision without comment. It's not easy, but it's the only way to react sometimes.
"As blame starts being apportioned, or responsibility for ones feelings to lie justifiably" Yes, OK...the 'truth' right.
"Having accepted that everything is a gift, however it might appear, Misha found life taking on a new meaning."---- Return to One,p 120 This surely also means the challenges of the shadow. It's been snowing this evening and I'm about midway through your lovely book...perfect:-)
@thethegreenmachine That's very true. But to acknowledge we can't project what we think they're doing as a reality can be really helpful on its own. To ask rather than assume and attack. As for my follower, she just won't go away. :P
Are you following me around in real life? LOL I think it would also help if we just took a second to see where the light's coming from, instead of obsessing on the damn shadows. I want to live where u are. It's green. sigh.
@rriverstone1 lol! Yes, that moments stepping back to see the true source can make a huge difference to the response. It is green here. I love it and am very lucky.
@owheydusoapsk Johnny meets Suzie, has a relationship with her which ends badly. Johnny feels hard done by and scared of trusting anyone again. Johnny meets Matilda who he likes but is unable to keep projecting his fear of the hurt he felt with Suzie being recreated, and in his fear creates the very thing he wishes to avoid. Johhny meets Ethel. He remembers what happened with Suzie and Matilda. He is afraid. The outcome is predictable until he sees his own shadows.
Very interesting! The Cave blew my mind once I discovered its meaning...What we consider to be life can merely be a realm of well accepted and established shadows. It is hard to know someone's inner workings, even among those who try to shed light on the shadows. We can only try and learn from what we experience! Keep up the good work :)
Without a shadow of a doubt you are onto something, Loreleila. We need to become more conscious of how we are pitching or bitching in the play of light and just how much the field of friend and foe contains us by complicities of boundary. For myself, it appears that, whatever befalls me, I did it to myself, for chance to bring more light into my world, ie to 'realeyes.'
@Edmundo400 Sometimes what you say is incomprehensible to me because I don't understand your frame of reference. Then once in a while, like now, you just say it with such clarity. :)
I feel rather obfuscated right now...
