  • I'm about the same size as most Japanese people. LOL Love your humor.

  • I have an Arisaka my grandfather took from a cave in WW2. The Imperial Seal is still located on the bolt. I have never had it appraised, but wouldn't sell it for the world!

  • Is that an original pre-1943 Arisaka?! They are incredibly rare and expensive?

  • A closer pronunciation would be "ah-di-sah-kah" As the Japanese 'r' is not pronounced like ours. Its closer to a spanish(Mexican) r sound. somewhere between and L and a D. I am really enjoying your videos, I own an SKS and I have always wanted an Arisaka.

  • I have a 6.5 with the mum on it same maker

  • if i am right i could be wrong to that is the 6.5x55 and thats a very popular hunting calibre here in sweden :)

  • As far as ww2 rifles I'll keep my 03 springfield and my garands thank you very much.

  • @Hickock45 Have you considered reloading your shells?

  • Carbeen, huh?

  • Ive heard that this rifle was considered underpowered, why is that is it the cartridge or the barrel length?

  • @CGTA1 The type 44 was issued to the calvary forces. Maybe thats why they chose to make the gun smaller with the sacrifice of firepower.

  • FPSRussia's uncle?

  • u served in ww2 ou dont look like it also can u do a sten or grease gun?

  • 100000000x easier thsn the mosin hahahah

  • it is a good rifle with great accuracy and the chinese soldiers loved this rifle too.but the power is not good

  • Very nice rifle, the Japanese had some cool weapons in WWII.

  • Beautiful gun I would be proud to own that rifle, no matter how much the cost of ammunition I believe it to be worth it.

  • 2 kills one shot....dang

  • i have but one complain about this video. And that is, when you work the action of the rifle, the rifle goes out of screen, and the action of the arisaka is interesting(strait bolt arm) Other than that i like it ;9

  • My father (76 yrs old) has one of these that he paid $25 for when he was a young man and hunted with it. It still has the original bayonet and the "mum" is also ground off. He handed it down to me recently and this past Nov I took my 12 yr old son on his first deer hunt with it. At the beginning of the video I thought you said 7.7mm, but later you showed the correct 6.5mm Jap ammo. I really enjoy all your videos (fellow Tennessee boy here).

  • I have a velcro patch that says kentucky windage lol...

  • you sir, are not the same size as most japanese people

  • you need to get a p90 hikock. or a ppsh-41.

  • what was the cartridge you used in you arisaka in the video?

  • I want one fir my collection, so far I only have a 1931 Mosin Nagant.

  • OMG i just found out tht my grandpa used to have 1 and my dad would always play with it so i hope tht he still has it cause this would be so bad ass to have

  • NIIICE shooting!!!!!

  • You aint the same size as Japanese soldier .... lol ... you look MUCH bigger!

  • i've never see that kind of arisaka just the slimer one that japan used in iwo jima

but the type 44 is the better :)

  • Mr. Hickock.....seriously. This is long past due. You need to do a video on your BELT BUCKLES!!!!! Every time I see you, I see a belt buckle that I want. Do a video please, sir. I asked nicely and I said SIR.... :) ???

  • Your videos are awesome.

  • Banzai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ya gun porn

  • What happened to the folding bayonet?

  • @1987James he explained in the video.

  • @HedgehogOutdoors Do you actually think that I didnt figure that out? I posted that question before I saw the whole video. Jesus........

  • @Norwegiantrollmorten Google Translate, what would we do without you?

  • I laughed hard when the Ram just killed over on its own and Hickok45 looks over and remarks that we scared another animal.

  • I heard somewhere that this rifle has a very strong action. Not sure if its true or not. I have the same taste as Hickok45. I like short, light, fast handling rifles.

  • I killed fifty men!

  • air-i-sahka?

wow! i never would have guessed it was pronounced that way...

  • @wwkybobo Please pronounce it a-ri-sa-ka if you like to try. "a" is pronounced like "u" in "under" or "up". Vowels should be clear on each syllable. "r" sound is between "R" and "L". Put strong Intonation on "ri". By the way, Japanese people pronounce "Garand" like guah-ran-do.

  • Thank you for uploading so many videos! I just wish to let you know another story why chrysanthemum engraving was filed off. I have read an article on Japanese magazine that Douglas MacArthur at Tokyo directed to erase the emblem on captured firearms before sending outside of Japan, in order not to harm Japanese people's sense of warship to their emperor. I believe the Japanese at that time could never deform the symbol of emperor family. Anyway thank you for taking Arisaka rifle on you video!

  • Oh man i love that cheesy beginning; Oh hi there! I didn't see you there! :D

  • im no expert but im pretty sure you shouldnt shoot full power loads out of old rifles like that because it tends to damage the barrel or are those light loads?

  • @yourworstnigtmare312

The Arisaka is actually the most strongly built ww2 bolt rifle. Even the last ditch ones were superb.

  • @foughtwolf i agree that there strongly built im talking about stressing the barrel though. ive had incidents when shooting ww2 firarms of barrel rupturing during firing of modern and moderate loads thats why ive been lead to believe that modern moderate loads are bad for older rifles. i learned that from my m1 garand aswell when i fired modern factory ammo and bent the op rod up from it.

  • @yourworstnigtmare312

Its sometimes a gamble really. The honest truth of it is, a lot of ww2 ammunition was actually hotter than todays sporting loads. Early semi-auto rifles like the Garand do tend to become damaged by new age loads, but I believe that has more to do with the slightly heavier bullets used in todays ammunition compared to what the garand fired.

  • @foughtwolf oh i see. i believe the reason that the op rod tends to become bent is from the burn rate to i think i read that somewhere

  • I've got a japanese Rifle. A browing X-bolt. Thought Browning manufactures in America? Think again!

But just for the reccord. I love my X-bolt.

  • @SANPH didn't see that, thanks :)

  • meh great grandpa was in the 1st cav and brought back a type 99 :) it still has the mum and we recently bought ammunition for it, plan to shoot it soon!

  • does this shoot a 6.5 JAP or was it converted?

  • @prestige21000 says 6.5 JAP on the box.

  • I noticed the dust cover over the bolt is missing. Someday, I'll take a video on the Arisaka my grandfather acquired from a friend of his. It has the dust cover over the bolt, and the chrysanthimum un-altered.

  • 好极了!(sorry, I don't know Japanese, but I'm learning Chinese, lol)

Classic piece of history! I heard that the Arisaka bolt came from the Mauser design, and modified a bit.

By the way, the Arisaka bolt had a dust cover, but the Japanese usually got rid of it because it made a lot of noise when cocking.

In fact, the original Arisaka's (if mounted with a bayonet) were so long, it was often longer then the soldier himself.

    Very good review!

  • @bangalorebully

    oops, sorry for confusing you

I tried to translate it by myself becouse other comments using MT had seemed to unnatural.

That's the reason why I've asked to give my comment thumbs up. And I'm glad to hear that u like our country, thank you.

In fact, seirodate said his grandfather had fought against KMT(Kuomintang: Chinese Nationalist Party) army so it's different from communist guerrillas but these red guys are still standing as a great evil of the world nowadays...

  • I forty-four expression cavalry guns. Because my grandfather was in the Army Cavalry I was using this gun or horse forty-four expression eighty-three expression. My grandfather fought in China and the Kuomintang troops were survivors. Kuomintang troops are in pairs connected by two chains, was not to escape Kuomintang army "Selected Corps" Yes, was executed on. "While the enemy was a pity," I said. It is a very good condition condition. Great is what seirodate said

  • "Just need a holster for it." hahahhaha

  • 銃の事はよくわからんけどライフルにしちゃ小振りにみえる。日本人が作ったからかな。オッサンの腕も凄いんだろうけど、きっと銃の精度もいいんだろう。よく当たる。

  • Why japanese gun is always so ugly , Pistol and Rifle 1111111

  • Have you heard of a Japanese type 5 rifle? It's an attempted M1 Garand copy near the end of the war.

  • I have one of these and i got it for 100 bucks...Im guessing thats a good price....

  • @TizzButAScratch Yea, considering the ammo is 35 bucks a box.

  • I Si Pu cavalry guns four. Because my grandfather was in the Army Cavalry

I was using a gun or these four horsemen Si Pu Bapu acid.

My grandfather fought in China and the Kuomintang troops were survivors.

Kuomintang troops are in pairs connected by two chains, was not to escape

The Kuomintang army "Team Selected" Yes, that was executed in.

"While the enemy was a pity," I said.

It is a very good condition condition. Great.

  • "It's type 44 carbine. My grandfather was served in the Imperial army cavalry so he might used type 38 or this 44 carbine.

He had fought against Chinese national army, and returned alive.

They chained a couple of their soldiers up. And someone tried to escape had been shot by the barrier troops.

He said that it seemed pitiful even they are our enemy.

Anyway, this carbine looks very good condition. Splendid."

    sorry for my poor translation...

  • A friend of mine offered one of these to me for $200 recently. I asked about the mum and he said it had some "damage" but it can still be seen. I figured for 200 on this with a matching dust cover and the fact that it's a type 1, I couldn't go wrong. I think it's all matching.

  • hickok its a tag from a auction it idenifys the seller and the item. i have a 7.7 with the flower in tact.

  • This is TYPE44 cavalryman gun. Because the grandfather was a cavalryman in the army

I think that I used the TYPE38 cavalryman gun or this TYPE44.

The grandfather fought against KMT(Kuomintang of China) in a Chinese continent, and returned alive.

The KMT soldier was connected with the chain in groups of two.

When you run away from the trenchIt was shot dead by other KMT soldiers.

The grandfather was speaking, "It was pitiful though it was an enemy".

  • just to let u know the symbols next to the scratched off chrysanthemum is 644.

  • looks kinda like a bolt action SKS

  • @2THROWED4HOZ ha yea like butt stock to middle looks sksish middle to sight look like a mosin and the rest looks kinda like an old 1903 Springfield

  • Would it be possible to rechamber this rifle into something like .30-06?

  • @7commenter7 no. Of course you can buy a .30-06 bolt action. But this form you cannot.

  • Oh man...so awesome you have one of those! I just found out about these rifles an hour ago haha and I want one. Probably the type 38

  • This is bolt action man try it with final fronts

  • I like this rifle

  • subbed. best gun vids on youtube!

  • My friend's grandfather brought 2 from the war, they're beautiful and in great shape. they haven't been shot since he got them so they need some work to them.

  • A beautiful rifle. I own both a Type 38 (With mum) and the Type 99 (No mum but with the dust cover) and find them both reliable and accurate shooters.

Be careful with cheap 6.5 ammunition. I bought a couple boxes of 6.5mm Jap and 6.5mm Carcano made by Privi Partizan at about $20 a box and both were horrendously innaccurate with bullets travelling as far as a foot to the left or the right of my point of aim. When I switched brands to Hornady, the rifles shot true.

  • I love how he acts surprised that he's being recorded at the beginning of the video.

  • Hickok, if you'd like to show off a Arisaka Type 99 (7.7x58mm), I have two as well as an Arisaka Type 38 Carbine (6.5x50mm), only problem would be getting them to you from half way around the world...

  • This is the most beautiful example of a arisaka I have ever seen. After seeing this I want to get one

  • @seirodate, That's exactly what I was going to say.

  • @hickok45 I've done my best to translate. "That's the sound of the 44th Army Cavalry rifle. My grandfather fought with the Nationalist forces in China and barely survived. Chains (chain gangs?) connected the KMT soldiers in groups of two. They tried to escape the Nationalist forces. Some, were executed. The prisoners were treated terribly.

The rifle is in a very good state of condition. Great."

  • @hickok45 let me clarify. "Looks like the type 44 cavalry rifle. My grandfather was in the Japanese Imperial Army Cavalry so I believe he was issued one of these or a type 38. He fought the 'Kuomintang' army in China and miraculously survived. The 'Kuomintangs' were bound by chains in pairs, and if they attempted to retreat, they were executed by their own barrier troops. Though they were enemies, he said he felt sorry for them. Anyways it's great to see this rifle in such good condition."

  • @hickok45 Greatest response I've read on YouTube, ever!

  • @hickok45 I Si Pu cavalry guns four. Because my grandfather was in the Army Cavalry

I was using a gun or these four horsemen Si Pu Bapu acid.

    that is the translation

  • @hickok45 LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @hickok45 uhm can you translate for me??

  • @seirodate get that chinese off of here!

  • @cadillacowboy1

You do know that's Japanese, right?

    Otherwise, good joke!

  • @selfatrophy ikr!

  • @cadillacowboy1 dipstick that is Japanese not Chinese, need to learn the difference or just plainly need to learn.

  • @kuribo1 what the fuck are you talking about bitch??

  • @seirodateI Translated:

Si Pu cavalry guns four. I was using a gun or these four horsemen Si Pu expression was eighty-three cavalry in the Army because his grandfather. • @seirodate very nice.... my Grandfather was also in Cavalry during 2 WW (But in polish, at the begining of the War)

  • @seirodate

you can't make a vid of them ?

  • @seirodate im "can't" read japanese....but im gonna take a stab

ur grandad fought the chinese army during the 2nd world war and lived. ur grandad was a cavalryman and he used the type 44 cavalry carbine...thats it

  • Japanese guns are shorter than european's and american's ones. (trololol...)

  • @gorthorki the early version of arisaka is really long with the bayonet on i think is somewhere my height , iam 180cm , this is a late war version : )

  • ah-rli-sa-ka is proper pronunciation. You want to soften the R and put a little bit of an L sound to it.

  • ill stick with my 1903

  • Did you not find the bolt on it really rather odd?

  • without knowing any facts i would guess it came from the Kentucky long rifle. The ability to shoot the longer range with the kentucky long rifle compared to a musket required the use of kentucky windage???

  • I love you, man!

  • im holding a vintage 44 carbine in my lap right now taken from a dead soldier my grandmothers best friend killed, it just needs a bolt :)

  • i love your humor hickok

  • That is a really nice looking rifle.

  • Love your videos! Any chance of seeing what a mauser broomhandle pistol is capable of in your hands?

  • HOW MUCHHHH WAS IT OH MY GOD SO BEAUTIFUL xD

  • The Type 44 had a folding Spike Bayonet, from the looks of it when it was bought it didn't have the Bayonet attached, also that tag on the stock is a price tag.... most likely from an auction

  • never was a fan of the arisaka or any japanese weapons for that matter. Wierd ammo.

  • @rocker4u123 I know right, I would love to have some old bolt guns, but the ammo is uncommon and therefore very expensive.

  • @rocker4u123 if iam not wrong its use the smallest caliber in the entire war , even the chinese with weak fire power in that time had a bigger bullet lol

  • I always thought the term "Kentucky Windage" became popular with the use of the Kentucky Long Rifle.

  • ohai errbody!

  • subscribed.

  • theres no way you're the size of most japanese people who are like 4'11 lol i'm kidding

  • Beautiful looking, compact rifle.

Many thanks for uploading the video.

    Natural presenter, all one take!

  • how much does an average wwii rifle sell for and how hard are they to acquire? thanks :)

  • @joshthemangojunkee40 What kind of rifle? there were many rifles used during WW2

  • I Heard i car 04:24

  • "need a holster for it" lol awesome

  • is this rifle cock on open or close?

  • @TaZ101SAGA Cock on the close.

  • @TaZ101SAGA - It's a bolt action? :P

  • @FearTheGremlin Whats that supposed to mean? I know its a bolt-action, i have bolt-action rifles im not stupid. I was simply asking if it was cock on open or close...Which gungeek has already given me an answer for.

  • @TaZ101SAGA - I've never heard of a bolt action rifle that cocks on open.

  • @FearTheGremlin For example, the Mauser and Mosin-Nagant both cock on open.

  • @TaZ101SAGA - The Mosin? Don't think so. I have one, and to disassemble the bolt you have to switch it to cocked position (closed position) and the firing pin then protrudes.

  • @FearTheGremlin Well funnily enough, i had a Mosin too a short while ago, and i can assure you that its cock on open. If the rifle is not cocked, lift the bolt handle and watch the cocking piece at the back of the bolt, it will slide back and click, hence the cock-on-open.

  • @TaZ101SAGA - Hmm, dunno.

  • @FearTheGremlin I bet you dont even have a Mosin.

  • @TaZ101SAGA - ??? What the hell are you talking about; it's not like they're even expensive at all. Check my channel.

  • @FearTheGremlin The way you were talking in the previous comments sounded like you didnt know what i was on about, which is why i doubted that you even owned any firearms. A Mosin-Nagant owner who doesnt even know if his rifle is cock on open or close, that kind of made me wonder.

  • @TaZ101SAGA Well, I know that the rifle isn't fully cocked unless the bolt is closed; hence, it is cocked on the close. The firing pin carrier DOES come back when the bolt is opened, but this does not designate the rifle as fully cocked.

In my favorites I have bookmarked a cross section video of the operation of the Mosin Nagant. I can't paste the URL. If you watch it, you can see that it is not fully cocked until the bolt is closed.

  • @FearTheGremlin That is irrelevant. For example, on a mauser (Which is cock on open), you lift the bolt handle, it cocks the rifle, now if you push it back down again the rifle will fire when you pull the trigger (Provided theres a round in the chamber of course). If you lift up the Mosin-Nagant bolt, the cocking piece slides backward, if you push the handle back down, the rifle is primed and ready to fire, just like the Mauser. Hence it is cock on open. Google it if you dont believe me.

  • I got a T38 with a X'ed out mun, need to get some ammo for it and take out out to the rang somesay

  • "I just need a holster for it." lulz

  • is the chrysanthemum still intact?

  • @Delta8559272 Yes it is :)

  • @Gungeek ohh my gosh... that is AMAZING, every one i looked at was filed off

  • Thumbs up if you think hickok should the 1903 Springfield!!

  • I don't wanna be an ass. But it's a-Di-sa-ka (In japaness).

I really enjoy you videos. Especially the historical rifles.

PS: And I'm looking for my DZSG

  • "Kentucky Windage" comes from the Kentucky Long-Rifle.

  • $1.50 a shot? If I could get my hands on ammo that cheap I'd be one happy shooter. Cheapest ammo I can get my hands on for my .30-06 is about $1.95 a shot. And that's without the costs associated with the 1.5 hour drive to the gun shop. Americans sure are lucky to have a buyer's market.

    Anyway, love your vids!

  • Kentucky Windage

  • I used to be exclusively interested in european ww2 rifles until i got my hands on a cheap early model arisaka 99. that thing is fun as hell to shoot and the build quality honestly feels more solid than any other ww2 gun i've shot thus far. disclaimer: from what i hear, the early year rifles were of exceptional quality while the late year (44-45) rifles varied from mediocre to complete shit. ive been told that as the war went downhill for the japanese, so did the quality of their arms.

  • why are u shootin 6.5 through a rifle u said was 7.7....hmm

  • @MrPettj Dont worry the Type 44 is 6.5mm lol

  • LOL! Me and my dad owned a small gunshop in Florida back in the early 1980's and we could hardly give these damn rifles away. They're like boat oars.

  • @FaganRoberts

You could have given them to me.

  • @Verator Dixie Gun & Pawn Shop in Orange City, Fla.?

Was that you? LOL! We had these rifles at about $100 a pop.

  • carbeen lol - mowser lol.......carbine and mauser i think hahaha

  • It is my understanding that the mum was ground off captured arms on McAurther's orders. We've got one grampa brought back with it ground off but my buddy has one with it intact. I think it might add 1-2 hundred dollars to the value.

  • Hichok how tall are you? Your comment made me curious!

  • @mr00jimbo

he states in an FAQ video that he is 6'8''. obviously its a joke he made.

  • Not a huge deal but at the beginning you say it's a 7.7mm. For some reason I doubt that you'd shoot 6.5mm JAP in a 7.7mm chambered rifle, especially at $1.50 a pop! lol

  • interesting fact about the flower being ground off...haha you learn something everyday! Liked!

  • i would love to see you fire a s&w 500

  • youre the best mr hickok
