  • Wood chips are made to smoke meat. You may have figured that out by now since it is very expensive to burn them for fuel. The reason for all your smoke is that wood chips are soaked in water so they will smoke better for grilling or smoking and to increase the weight of the chips for profit. You only need one or 2 for grilling to get smoked flavor, just dip in water first. It's the dumbest fuel you can use. You can buy a whole cord of seasoned wood for the cost of a few bags of wood chips.

  • Why having a fan? It works really well without just using the amazing updraft succion that fire provides. You don't need a furnace flame to boil water :)

  • I plug the fan in as soon as it's lit and gets going in half the time. Burns Eucalyptus twigs real well. Sold in Australia on a website called stickmanstoves. Also the fan and motor are well insulated and constructed of all metal so no chance of melting.

  • man I would be drinking my french pressed coffee already using my ETA Primus.

  • I think you need long tongues heheh.

  • i would get this but i think the fan would melt.

  • Ordered one today amazon and plan to sell my primus that runs on butane. What is the gel you refer to and where do you get it?t

  • Two points, I dont see any gasification taking place, And the fan is gonna melt soon!!

    Nice gizmo value though.

  • @reddog694uk

watch the last part of the video, there actually is gasification going.

For the fan u can use a aluminium one. Got one where only the fan blade r out of plastic, and these r cooling themself.

But its alot cheaper to build ur own one.

  • Go to walmart get one of those necklace fans $4 in the camping section uses 2AA batteries while you are at it find some type of solar light or WE and U can use that to recharge the batteries if U want to have something that is RE and will not fail on the trail.

I built a few the best design is the hot head it works really well little bulky but still is lightweight Any questions I will answer them I like to use the stove to keep warm on those cold nights when you want to sit outside by a fire.

  • Sorry man you are just increasing combustion due to an increase in air flow similar to how a blast furnace works. You are not generating wood gas and then reburning that gas to heat your water. You are doing one step similar to a campfire only slightly more efficient. This is a hobo stove at best.

  • Not true. The fan is increasing airflow certainly, and that is increasing the rate of combustion and heat generated. But introducing pre-heated air to the gas/smoke near the top of the stove is causing secondary combustion.

  • It's expensive for a low tech device I made a home made one that took me an hour to craft from things I bought at walmart. Look in my videos and you will see you can build your own. All these include the product Coffee can $6 juice can $1 some metal duct tape $? fan$2. This is not rocket science there are plenty of folks on line that share their methods, save yourself $75 build your own.

  • I just bought two of these units and I'm still amazed at how much heat they generate with a only a handful of twigs.

I also purchased the optional solar battery charger that also run the unit on sunny days.

Nice stove and free fuel for life!!!

  • 1 if you use fire starter you can start on low

2 Switch it to low, if you turn it off

all you got is a can of burning wood.

If you can use 30% wood chips and 70% wood pellets.

  • Thanks for this video, I plan on getting one. Got a couple of questions.

    1. Is it ok to start the fan at high speed?

    2. If you want to simmer down the cooking, will it continue to burn if you pull the cord?

  • I may be an impatient SOB, but if I'm using some sort of starter fluid or gel, I will plug the battery in 'low' almost immediately after lighting the stove (<10 seconds). So far, this has worked every time.

  • long after the fires out you can use it to heat yourself, the bottom half stays cool to the touch so you can just hold it against your chest under your coat, stays hot for hours, to increase the heat just plug the fan in for a few seconds, great in cold weather

  • on second thought this is a bad idea if carbon monoxide is still being produced

  • Heat water place it in a bottle place that under your coat.

  • nice!

  • i got one now and it works great

  • Great video, thanks for the effort you put into making it, it was very informative. I've bought one of these based on your information.
