When I first played this song for my husband he didn't like it. I couldn't understand how he wouldn't like this song? That was years ago . . . I might try playing it for him, now, since he is more kind and loving, as time has gone by. Eh..but that is a bit personal. I think it is a beautiful song. It's wonderful.
What annoys me is how poorly recieved this album was for being this weird rock/electronic mix ahead of its time and what do we have blowing up today.....DUBSTEP. I bet we'll be hearing this album getting the dub treatment very soon.
bass on this song is massive-it's so simple yet brilliant. it's funny when people would bitch that U2 needed to go to their old sound, yet also complained when they tried a new sound...
Look, what we have on the radio? Rampapapam? U2 is a beautiful music with smart lyrics about feelings, human rights... This is music with soul. Fuck you, Rihanna!
When Pop came out it was in the era of going to raves & a lot of electronica music. My friends that were in to only house music got into U2 from me playing this album non stop. it's been at least 10 years, but this disc used to go great with LSD.
You got my head filled with songs You got my shoelaces undone Take my shirt, go on take it off me You can tear it up If you can tie me down Do you feel loved Do you feel loved Do you feel loved Do you feel loved With my fingers as you want them With my nails under your hide With my teeth at your back And my tongue to tell you the sweetest lies...........
this song is my favorite of this album... I spent several lonely moments listening to this... "in between the grey sky, the sea and my mind, yet sad at that time"
the 90's with achtung baby, zooropa and this one were defintely a totally new music direction for the band, specially after the huge success of the joshua tree, they had the balls to do that, other bands would simply disappear with such experimentations, not U2 that just proves how talented they are
@carig121 exactly my thought.at sme point they had to reinvent themselves, and they did great.some other bands would have failed ,they just rocked it.i guees the world wasn't ready for them in this new kind of music...i was ready, and i'm glad it happened
@juliotao13 estas equivocado hermano perdoname pero para mi lo ultimo bueno de u2 fue "all that you cant leave behiand" es solo mi opinion nada mas saludos.
Pop has gotten a lot better with age, the reason for the original dis satisfaction with the album both critically and commercially was because it was made by U2; and it didn't sound at all like the U2 of the early 1990's. Pop is a very good album
Pop is U2's best album, they made a great experiments, amazing sounds, put electronics. Here The Edge's guitar has maybe the most complex guitar sound in the history of music. Bono in it's best - honest and passionate. The album is pure emotion.
they say its their worst album yet we got songs like Do You Feel Loved, Discotheque, Mofo, Staring at The Sun, Last Night On Earth, Gone and Wake Up Dead Man. Best band ever. No drugs attatched.
To this day it boggles my mind that both the band and critics have hammered this album. Beyond the fact that u2 decided to evolve which most bands can't do let alone think of doing so they produced a pretty relevant album in the process. One of the reasons why most contemporary bands won't go down in the record books id their lack of evolution, u2 did that with pop and zooropa and not only that they pulled off both albums live.
@boxpine69 I think U2 was trying to do different things. Pop is a good album, very nice to listen to. At the time the only song that didn't fit for me was "if you wear that velvet dress", but when I saw it live, my perception about this tune was completely changed.
back when pop came out I remember being disappointed the whole album didn't maintain the feel of this song and mofo and discotheque, they seemed to really expand from the zoo tv era well
I love this song so much

Really got into U2 with Pop and Zooropa so I dig the techno dance flavor of this period.

The lyrics on "Pop" are among Bono's most spiritual and deepest.
Yet the press said the album was plastic and shallow...which shows you how bad most music critics are.
