That whole last section is unmistakable Waller. I'm happy to see the homage. Waller always put classical motifs into his jazz, so who better to show this kind of respect than Kapustin, the classical pianist that plays jazz.
Does anyone know who publishes his preludes? I have been looking for a modern set that changed things up in a quasi-jazz way, and I think I have found the set I want to perform next.
@chimayai I got mine from Zen-On in Japan, ISBN 9784111611713, but from what I can tell it's currently out of print. Looks like MUST picked it up...google "kapustin scores" and navigate to the tutti dot co dot uk links.
all this time i thought kapustin must've had the biggest hands ever to be able to play all his pieces so comfortable, and now i hear him roll those 10ths in the left hand. i have lost all hope in ever playing these etudes.
@AllOutOfGum Not that hard as it seems. As Kapustin plays here, you can do it as non-legato. Personally I find this a lot easier to play than Chopin's Op. 25-6.
Kapustin is incredible!! I can't believe I just now discovered him after studying piano for over 10 years! Does anyone know where I can find his sheet music?
@Dachion " I cried & went to heaven with the immortals, glissening elegant lights of the kaledioscopic palaces in the eternities of triumphant bliss......."
@Heilageldur I absolutely love his suggestion of stride piano throughout the whole piece. His composition style draws from so many rhythms from different types of jazz...
insane thirds. Almost makes thirds practice seem worth while :)

The first few seconds make me think of when you play a tape, then it messes up, and continues. Kapustin is SO creative. Gotta love his music ;]

A great piece. Nice to see so many young concert pianists playing his compositions. Have a look at young EvChow taking this on board on YouTube!

I bet mister Kapustin likes Fats Waller a lot.

Great composer of today. And also a PHENOMENAL pianist. This is the best performance of Intermezzo.

@bachpartita6
It's the best performance, since it's the composer himself performing!
