When you said: someone may ask "Father,am I really a Christian?"-- Okay, I can hear the criticism coming. May I pre-empt any of that potential misunderstanding? Pastor Fisk was referring to the Heavenly Father when he said that, not himself (in case you ppl did not see Pastor Fisk look UPward to GOD). We do not call our pastors Father, just Pastor. BTW,Pastor Fisk, you articulate so well. I admit, although I know alot of this ChristianLutheran stuff,I could not express it as well as you do!Thanx!
@Revfiskj You are so young. Are you a pastor? Sorry that I said YOU'LL MAKE a great one (Awesome one). I didn't think you were old enough to be through Seminary. It's cool, though, since you should take that as a big compliment! I am always told that I look younger than I am:-) too! Anyway,You ARE a wonderful pastor,I will say.God Bless.Keep it up--proud of you for working through YouTube to serve our Lord! And your point is well taken---YES,babies were baptized by the early Christian Church! ww10
You are going to be an AWESOME Pastor!! You need to witness to the Joel Olsteen&Rick Warren-types who-----with their coffee and doughnut, kick back in the chaise-lounge chairs, large72 in. screen monitors in4 places, and hopped-up rock bands-----are teaching their health and wealth "gospels". But where's the true word of God there? +Great point about the Calvinists who DO NOT UNDERSTAND that GOD can/does work through the means of grace,e.g.,water.It's so Biblical, BUT Calvinists just don't get it!
@Revfiskj Hope you get the other comments I put on for you! (Not just this one, there's 3 others)and there will probably be more, sometime later!! I'm loving your words. They are lifting my spirit. The Holy Spirit that is in me is saying Yes, Yes, AMEN!!! I love learning and even re-learning this awesome Bible that God gave us. I love Jesus so much and your words are ringing so true, as a believer in Christ I say this. I'll be watching and listening! Thanks, Alexa.
From what you've said here,I could not agree more! Luther had it so right!! But then Calvin came along and messed it up quite abit. We've been studying Galatians lately--cool! I have been to so many (MANY) different churches and none preach the Gospel the way the Lutherans do--wholeheartedly and completely!!My Baptist and Calvinistic friends are getting into theMissouri Synod Lutheran Church that I go to + they see/hear what the GOSPEL TRULY IS and how it's not watered down as theirs always was!
@gomerzillmer Apocalyptic rhetoric doesn't do anyone any good. It doesn't work in theology, and it doesn't work in politics. The unwarranted panic caused by advocates of piracy are making a mess of things. I'm glad the bills have been shelved though.
I also don't see how SOPA has ANYTHING to do with preaching the Gospel or highlighting false teaching.
@SporloMBSSB Of course it isn't preaching in itself, but is an issue of large scale censorship and losses of freedom of speech online. Like I mentioned, whether it's blogs or youtube or whatever, these forms of media can be useful to us as Christians, I mean, we're watching Christian videos right now. Have you seen how the RIAA and MPAA operate? 'Apocalyptic rhetoric' is most definitely warranted, these are corporations that, as the saying goes, "would slit their mothers throat for a nickel."
Well, that had some poorly worded spots, lousy 500 character limit. Anyway, the reason I ask, besides the direct implications this bill could have on your own videos, is that you seem to be in a firestorm of controversy already, so why not sound off (comment wise) on another huge controversy that is taking place these days? :P
...potential to cause the entirety of Youtube to get shut down and get ~5 years in prison, or anyone else on youtube posting anything that someone claims to have a copyright (note that no actual infringement has to take place, merely receiving a complaint could shut down youtube), and then we'd lose out on all of these videos. Basically these bills would lead to the destruction of all user generated content online (say; facebook, youtube, wikipedia, google, etc.). So, I think that is pretty bad.
This isn't a theological issue, but do you have any thoughts on SOPA and PIPA? If or anyone else don't know what these are, read up on it, it has the potential to destroy the internet as we know it. watch?v=tzqMoOk9NWc is the tag of a good youtube video that explains it. Anyway, I'm asking revfisk because, it could have a very direct and harmful influence on his own videos. Essentially any image that gets flashed on screen, or any movie/tv/song clips that may be inserted into a video has the ...
sundapplednest, we speak carefully, in such cases, because we do not have a firm Word from God. However, the historic belief of the church is that we believe (not just Lutherans), that God views those who intended to be baptized, but died before it could be carried out, as though they were baptized. But we prefer to have a baptism, so we do emergency baptism as soon as the life of the child is at risk. This is a short rite that any Christian can do, so we do not have to ask that question.
Hey...by the way...if you could group your videos into the chief parts and produce that on a dvd or a video file...I would pay for something like that...seriously...I would love to have that as a resource for catechism.
Hey brother...you're doing a great job. Keep up the great service...Your videos have been a source for me doing a better job of haivng Bible study with my youth.
Awesome! Question about ur translation since ur the 2nd Lutheran pastor I've heard do this. Matt 28:19 you said AS YOU go...baptizing INTO the name of... The way I understood the translation was it should still be "GO" because of the grammatical feature "attendant circumstance". Also you use INTO since the greek is "eis". I've learned that it is invoking in the name, but ur interp looks like becoming one with. Or is this a duple entendre? Just wondering your thoughts on this. God's Blessings :D
Even though all of your videos are (more or less) enlightening and are an important part of my walk with God on a weekly basis, the video that you're apparently being criticized over was my favorite of them all so far. Your response to "Why I hate Religion" was on point and really entertaining.
Excellent. Thanks for reposting this. Even us, lutherans, need to hear on a regular basis the wonderful gift God gave his people, so we do not ever take baptism for granted.
It also helps to look at the baptism of Jesus and how it is directly related to Christ's death. Jesus, the sinless one, publicly takes upon our sins as John baptizes him. (Mt 3:14-15). Towards the end of his ministry Jesus says in Lk 12:50, "I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished!" Distress indeed. Here's Jesus carrying the entire world's sins throughout his ministry and then he must take those sins with him upon the cross and die.

@jagfoot You may want to see an earlier video by Rev Fisk titled X Marks the Discipled. It may answer at least the first question.
