Dave used to have the best musicians on his show. Some great artists made their network TV debut on Late Night/Late Show. For the last few years now he has had a lot of mediocre indie bands that we have never heard from again. Plus he has Regis on singing sometimes! Yuk.
Ben Haper should kick Michael Ward out, certainly the worst guitarist around, and ask Marc Ford to come back... BHIC has never been better when Marc was in !
in response to discussion of Marc Ford, I at first felt like it was kind of useless to just have a lead player like Marc Ford just doing effects-driven sound stuff in the background (he's not even really chords, just keeping time with scratching for a lot of it). But then I realized it's a credit to Marc's ability to get over himself and add something cool to the overall vibe. If you wanna hear him rip there's plenty of that on youtube
Because he's part of one of the most talented bands on the planet, and they all combine to make exceptional music. I'm sure if Ford wanted to have a lead in a band he could, but he obviously knows what he's got with BHIC. I'd give my left nut to be in BHIC.
glorious! the future of rock and roll is in the hands of folks like Ben, The Black Crowes, The White Stripes.....and of course - all of us. And praise the good Lord that The Verve is back together! Let's keep it on the road, people!!!
yeah..marc ford is playing the guitar..but the blind boys..huh..just awesome..i think its supposed to say The Blind Boys of Alabama w/Ben Harper hahah
yeah, because you know so much about his life. Way before Angelina was getting kids and camera time in Africa, he was there giving money and his time WITHOUT any camera around. I'm talking about early 80's, not yesterday. He just doesn't want his money on the hands of corrupt politicians. And he doesn't brag about the money he gives, which people like Angelina and Bill Gates do (so they can get tax discounts).
It is about passion, this is true soul music. You can see how he embraces every note, every word. Very pure and honest.Christian or not, you can definetly here the passion, and that is what I look for in music. being a musician I have learned to pick up on why an artist plays rather than what he plays. Good music is good music.
Last week a little girl in Cambodia got ran over by an elephant. The elephant trampled her to death. It didn't like the soap she used in her hair. Copy and paste this in 5 other videos or else she will teleport to your room when you're sleeping and stab you to death with an elephant tusk.
i hate how ben went through his die hard christian phase. he started off being more a socially minded person then around burn to shine and def diamonds (and of course the stuff he did with blind boys) is so full of christian bull. luckily bopth sides he has gone back to being a social commentator
I thought it was music like Ben's that tried to unify people of different backgrounds. Spirituality, regardless of religion, is a large part of the human expereince. If you feel alienated by this expression, you probably need to listen to track 6 on There Will Be A Light. Dig a little deeper, bro.
Ben is a Christian, you see a true Christian is one who comments on social matters as it is there hearrts desire to fullfill the charge of Christ to help save the poor and free the oppressed...
while in theory (though im not even sure in theory christianity is as...subversive as you want to say it is at all) it may be true that he is trying to unify people or talking about social issues, when viewing alot of his songs on those albums i mentioned they have one purpose: a religious one. compare say picture of jesus to like a king
Subversive...? Being a Christian is following the ways and teachings of Christ Jesus was the original rebel fighting for freedom for all people.
Christianity and religion are two different things, and the weight of social injustice in like a king is true however picture of Jesus shows his knowledge of Christ as the one true King. Not every song is going to be about his faith but someone withoutbthe faith would not sing the songs of Christ...
Don't be ignorant. Ben was never die-hard Christian, but he understands full well that his faith and social justice leanings can go hand in hand. Christianity is not bull--the Christian Right is.
like how ben is postiion right in front of marc. "ain't nobody as pretty as me!" i kid. they's aaalll awwright! is cool how letterman got a kick out of the old man's brain fart. old brutha be like, "shut the fuck up, cracka, its MY time ta shine!"
i wonder if letterman recognized marc from previous aprreances of =kicking everyones dface in with his other band, the crowes. most notably that "feelin alright". mighty fine, to say the least.
ben is a very kind to me ,when i met him in harrods london,he was talking to me for 2 hours and i dont know who he was till the day after when i read about him on news paper.since then i collect ben harpers cd
thank u ben for inspiring me ,now i also have an album and its available on itunes

monday morning worship... Not a better place, than with Harper and the Bama boys, said the southern man...
Awsome guitar in the background, just wish it was a strat....

I don't know, I guess it's a testament to Marc's ability to play for the song and not for his ego...but he could've ripped it up and I wouldn't mind.

What's the point of having Marc Fuckin' Ford play guitar if you aren't gonna let him play any lead?
