  • what is music called

  • LMAO when saw you using safari on windows

  • Using SSD's with XP is just plain fucking stupid, man.

  • @MyDoominateR So is Vista and 7's lack of horizontal span on multiple monitors. That said, I am on 7 now...

  • @widowmaker777 split screens is for office workers. you need a 42'' lcd for your main screen and one of those little monitors on the side for the rare times you need to span. 42'' will make 95% of everything you do better. get rid of equal split like that.

  • @widowmaker777 Use Ultramon, don't worry about the OS implementation and you'll enjoy a lot more features.

  • nice, but this song, it CREEPED THE HELL OUT OF ME!!!

  • Good music! Makes the video better.

  • what are your rigs specs? is your proc the bottle neck... there are other videos here on youtube that show their bootups completed at the blink of an eye

  • does ssd lose its speed and performance when u fully install lots of programs?

  • @korgpadude After years of use, it will get slower and slower and slower. The speed you experience the first day of use will prolly start deteriorating in a year.

  • @latuman rly??

  • @korgpadude It depends on usage. If you really use your computer daily and really need to access files (editing video, audio, etc) and not just browse the web or play a game, it will wear down slower.

But if you dont go nuts using your computers resources, I bet it'll stay reasonably fresh for many years.

  • There's no benefit of going Win7 when you're running Raid (0 or otherwise) anyway as there's no trim support in raid currently.

I run WinXP with Intel X25-M 80GB SSD in Raid0 as well, left 15% of the available space as unpartitioned space to combat the lack of trim support and I run the page file off on a different disk (Raid0 7200 RPM).

My boot time is about the same as shown in this video, I did not optimzie for a fast boot though.

  • isnt it kinda enoying when you can see the middle of the screens? ;D

  • Wow what a bunch of arrogant pricks - especially Argedis or whatever your name is. Vista is shite, why would anyone want to upgrade to that?

To the OP - Seems very quick, although if im honest my two lil raptor drives in raid 0 are not too far behind on boot times. Nice setup though, i need to get myself two monitors.

  • man i hope you upgraded to windows 7.. this was 10 days before it came out lol.

  • my 64gb patriot warp ssd booted my old xp faster than this, pathetic to have a raid-0 with intel ssds and run WINDOWS XP omfg, are you that poor to afford windows 7? at least vista but damn

  • @Argedis This boot is fully loaded with antivirus and the like instead of just a fresh install. This is real world long term performance in a fully used state. The real benefit in RAID 0 is not in the boot time, but rather in the overall performance when the computer is in use. It's not worth downgrading (yes downgrade) to Vista and Windows 7 gives me no worthwhile benefits. I probably will end up going to 7 on my next format though.

  • @widowmaker777 I see then you dont have a true RAID card and are most likely using a windows software based raid setup. With a RAID card you can boot the system with the raid-0 and see true performance gains, whereas the software setup sucks balls as it uses cpu cycles and is extremely limited in bandwidth and has no benefit in bootup

  • @widowmaker777 i agree with you, its not about boot time , its when in use performance

  • @widowmaker777 "downgrade" to 7? Really? -_-

  • @teammeowmix Well.. Nostalgia is important to ppl of a certain age..

  • @widowmaker777 dude i can understand not liking vista, but i hope your not implying that xp is better than windows 7, cause if you honestly think that you really need to lay off the crack.

  • @widowmaker777

    Indeed, RAID0 is nice.

But if one drive were to fail both would be useless.

Also TRIM does not support SSDs in RAID.

But like I said, you are right the performance.

  • @TheIrredeemable

The sensible way to go is software RAID the fast drive to mirror to a slow drive, giving one redundant protection against drive failure. Or even better, go for a pair of redundant safety drives.

Striping is a *lot* more dangerous, it multiplies the chances of failure, not doubles them, since one failure kills both drives. Mixing expensive SSD speed with cheap platter redundancy is the way forwards...

  • @widowmaker777 If you use Windows 7 and the new SSD drives you get better performance overall because the OS is aware of this type of medium (you can't run defrag on them, for example, and the mainenance it does need happens automatically, but not on XP).

  • I can boot win7 64 bit that fast with 2 velociraptors in raid 0

  • @Argedis vista sucks my harry balls day and night

  • That music is creepy!

  • Is that Patriot Convoy the XL version with the Raid switch on the back?

I did not think the SSD would boot the operating system from the Patriot Convoy ?

  • @spearmintmonkey No it's not the XL even though it's printed on the front panel doors. Raid 0 with the XL would not work well with SSDs because you would be saturating the SATA bandwidth with the onboard RAID controller of the XL. By not using the XL, you can get sequential read speeds of up to 440MB/s. Obviously the downside to this is that you have 2 SATA cables running out of the Patriot Convoy.

  • meh, not that impressive, i boot linux in about the same time on a traditional spindle non-raid hard drive. XP doesn't boot much slower either.

however, i guess general performance would be no contest.

  • this video was uploaded on my birthday. great videos

  • My system boots XP that fast without RAID or SSD.

  • @Snapscape It highly depends on what startup processes you run. The real benefit of SSDs is not in boot time, but the overall performance boost you get from everyday normal use. Check out my video on opening 27 applications at once. That video takes it to an extreme but it reflects some of the actual practical benefits of an SSD.

  • @widowmaker777 Oh yeah, I know that flash drives are faster than mechanical drives, and though I could use an SSD instead of my 80GB HDD for Windows, the performance for me just doesn't justify the drive cost. I just don't feel confident with the lifespan of current SSD's. If I do buy one, I prefer to stick with a brand I'm familiar with such as Seagate, which means I'll have to wait until they make them.

  • @Snapscape

SSDs can be READ "indefinitely" as far as i know

  • I mean when they're available at my local retailer.

  • @Snapscape True that SSDs are still quite expensive, but its value is different for everyone. I found the performance boost worth it. Intel rates their X25-M SSDs at 5 years of use if you write (reading does not affect SSD life) 100GB everyday, which is much more than what most people will see. Since we are dealing with flash memory, I would actually be more comfortable with memory focused brands like OCZ , Corsair, Kingston, Patriot, etc. For mechanical drives, I would go with Seagate or WD.

  • average not that fast

  • Wowo you just put it in like that? And music was great 5*

  • i have the same setup and the boot isent crasy faster but when you get in to windos it's done , no more harddrive thinking wile it looks done. the sad thing is intel's trim command dosent work in raid yet so it's a short farytale.. but reading speed upp to over 400 mb/s is sweet =)

  • this music is really good. does anyone knows what's the name of this music?

  • Unless booting a Patriot Convoy is per se much slower than booting a regular computer, this demonstration is actually not very strong: Those are 38 s for booting XP until the Desktop appears. Is it possible that in your system one of the other components (except the drive) is limiting already without the SSDs?

  • @gewinnste The convoy is just an enclosure to hold the drives and nothing more. This video shows a fully loaded boot and not just a fresh install of Windows. What you see here is a realistic representation of the computer you'd use everyday. First drive activity is at 0:46 and desktop is at 1:03. Anything before that is not dependent on the SSD. The real benefits of SSDs are seen during normal operation and not boot time.

  • What monitors are those ?

  • @ALEX2009poli two BenQ FP93G X

  • Did you turn off the paging file? And SSD's don't run better on windows 7?

  • pagefile turned off

    caching turned off

various tweaks made to extend ssd life

  • Cool, and did you try MFT?

  • Are you using the SSDSA2MH080G2C1 or SSDSA2MH080G1C5?

btw that's some crazy computer... and plus this music made me wonder how the future is going to be...

  • It's the G2. You can tell by the aluminium case.

  • Hmm that music u used sounds what i early hear.

Is it from MSX Computer ?

    Tell me pls

    thanks..

  • I don't remember where it's from. I just had it on my computer.

  • @widowmaker777 How is it called then that music ?

  • Nice man, I am considering a second. How about putting Win 7 on there?

  • I'll be holding out on 7 for at least a month or two to let everyone weed out the issues after release.

  • Hmm I think they did it properly this time. Alot of people have used the beta versions. I will be surprised if I find a problem.

  • You wouldn't mind sharing what motherboard and raid controller your using here would you? Any idea of the speeds? I know SATA 2 maxes out and TRIM doesn't work in raid just yet.

  • I'm using the Asus M2N32 SLI and it has the nvidia raid. It uses the nvidia 590 chipset.

    Sequential Read : 439.1 MB/s

    Sequential Write : 160.1 MB/s

    Random Read 512KB : 337.6 MB/s

    Random Write 512KB : 158.7 MB/s

    Random Read 4KB : 20.08 MB/s

    Random Write 4KB : 59.52 MB/s

  • Thanks :) Have you noticed any slow down without trim? I haven't been able to find information on whether or not Intel plans on implementing the TRIM command for raid. I've heard the raid controllers need to implement it still and so it's the only thing I'm holding out on right now.

  • I haven't had any slowdown issues at all. It's true that your raid controller also needs to support trim, but as of now I haven't heard of any hardware supporting trim.

  • With what did you measure this ? I've made a video of my raid now and a screenshot of CrystalDiskMark :)

  • CrystalDiskMark it is

  • Looks pretty good and similar to mine.
