- Takei's character (Sulu) was to get command of the Excelsior in an earlier ST movie, but Shatner threw such a fit that it would take some of his air time, the writers pushed it back. Second, Shatner made deragatory remarks about and would not share stage with a very sickly/dying James Doohan. Lastly, Shatner often counted other actors lines on ST-TOS and demand their lines be reduced. Again, I don't know.

I'd just like to point out that, Takei has every right to be excited for getting his own starship. He has a very expressive personality, very full of life. If you watch his video response to Clint McCance, his statement "no one should wish death on another human being", seems pretty damn in touch to me. Furthermore, I was a huge fan of the Star Trek movies when I was a kid, especially when Undiscovered Country came out, and seeing Sulu with his own starship even excited me ;)

@jakfuki Well, these two had to work together on set and in movies for around 30 years, give or take, and just because a cast works together, doesn't necessarily mean they all get along. And frankly, they don't have to like each other. Takei has a very direct sense of humor, and he likes to tell it like it is, and won't take any crap. I think being Captain Kirk, who gets to have sex with alien women and save the universe a lot, went to Shatner's head.

Shatner is a nice guy who can be an ass, but when his name is way more synonymous with Star Trek than the name Sulu, then I can see that as an ego builder. A Sulu series would have been cool, but only to Star Trek fans. I think George's sense of humor is great, and he is talented; but he's got some complex in his head that really makes him seem loopy. He's been on this attack for a long time, and really needs to grow up. The 2 of them need to appear at a convention together to bury the hatchet.

And frankly, they don't have to like each other. Takei has a very direct sense of humor, and he likes to tell it like it is, and won't take any crap. I used to like Takei. But, I honestly feel as though he's just pulling this crap to help his career. That is not to say that I don't believe some of his claims. It's just that it doesn't matter anymore. It was decades ago that their beef started. You'd think he'd be mature enough to, at the very least, ignore Shatner and move on with his life. If I were Shatner I'd say positive things about him and admit that he doesn't understand why Takai is having problems with him (and end the statement there). Shatner however gets a liottle agry in video (and probably rightly so). Takai has deep seated problems but might get over it someday, but wouldn't count on it. WHy would you reach out to him via a talk show? If you really cared , then you call in person and set up a meeting in person and straighten out any misconceptions. This vlogging or public interviews is whats wrong with celebrities. What example is this? Make a video and ask questions to someone else and post it. GREAT idea!

when someone is as clueless and arrogant as shatner is, its easy to say takei is being mean and not understanding why. when people walk around others like they mean nothing, the little people usually act bitchy, and then the gods wonder why. shatner is my hero, i love him, do not take this as shatner bashing, but he has shown over and over again a not getting it. look at his singing rocket man. he is self absorbed and clueless and its loveable. he mispronounced george's last name for years.
