Ok first leaving r8 out in snow isn't gonna cause rust or driving it down a snowy road that car is not and old American car made sheet metal and if you take your car thru the car wash 2 week in the winter and have washed along with underneath it be fine I have 2003 audi 8yrs old driven every winter and it don't have rust anywhere not even the undercarriage it's amazing what cleaning the snow off the car and running it thru the wash 2 weeks even once is better then what 99 percent of northerners
If I can drive a 2WD Expedition in snow like that with all-season tires with no problems then I don't see why you would need AWD for that. Sure, it helps sometimes, but it's not necessary.

Who cares how well your car performs in the snow, I'm pretty sure auto accidents involves collisions with other autos.
Chains on tires work well for snow, not wide tires.

Most importantly, no one would put snow tires on a vehicle like that, if it was snowing where you live you would drive a sensible car during the winter due to the corrosion and abuse that cars take during winters on snowy roads. @funkyfreshwill yes they do, Audi seells them at every major dealership. If you buy/get an R8 in the winter months in Europe youll get them on the car becuse otherwise the car isnt road legal.

@MrSuperZid There wasn't a point of whether snow tires are sold for this car or not. It was if they come like that when you buy the car as standard kit, not optional equipment. It can't be assumed he has snow tires on the car just because he is driving in snow, plenty of people drive in the snow without snow tires on four wheel drive vehicles. I'm not sure about the laws in Europe. I'm talking about over here in America, and seeing that this guy is in America, European laws aren't relevant.

@funkyfreshwill Chains are more for ice. If they were winter tires, it wouldn't be bad on snow coupled with the all wheel drive system. I think it's great he takes it out more than others. My neighbor has one and I rarely ever see him driving it. It's sad.

@TheGrahamDillon Chains work great for ice because it breaks up ice on the road but they also work really well for snow. I've heard people call tire chains, "snow chains" because when the snow is bad on the road, throwing on some chains helps get through otherwise very hard snow. All wheel drive and snow tires works excellent. That's pretty cool your neighbor has one but a shame he rarely enjoys it.

I freaking love Audi!!!!! I have two A4's and love them both. They are not the caliber of an R8 and are getting old, but they get us where we are going in style and safety. The first time I drove an Audi I was hooked. Too bad they don't make a medium duty truck! i really need one right now and one of the A4's has to go..... Sad day, but I still have one left!

Ok first leaving r8 out in snow isn't gonna cause rust or driving it down a snowy road that car is not and old American car made sheet metal and if you take your car thru the car wash 2 week in the winter and have washed along with underneath it be fine I have 2003 audi 8yrs old driven every winter and it don't have rust anywhere not even the undercarriage it's amazing what cleaning the snow off the car and running it thru the wash 2 weeks even once is better then what 99 percent of northerners

If I can drive a 2WD Expedition in snow like that with all-season tires with no problems then I don't see why you would need AWD for that. Sure, it helps sometimes, but it's not necessary.

In other news, cars aren't made to be stored the garage, sure it's nice if you can park it inside a garage but it will be just fine outside even when it freezes.

@RoyalError You are correct, he didn't say they were good or bad, but the attitude with which he made the comment makes it seem as though he thinks wide snow tires are a good thing. Skinny snow tires are better.
Also, I agree, it will work just as fine either way, and perhaps he can't afford to cover it up. Or perhaps he has enough money that he'll buy a new one when that one rusts. Sitting in the elements isn't that bad in the short run and I'm glad he uses it in the snow, but I'd garage it
