@nerdscience wow, that's impressive. I played World of Warcraft myself and it's quite difficult. Except I didn't find it that interesting. Have you seen my other comment suggesting the game RuneScape?
If this comes to my class, I would have to teach everyone cause unfortunately, I am the only one who plays in my grade because everyone else thinks it sucks and that it's for nerds and crap.
Everyone outside wow will be happy because their kids are learning about: reading, writing, communication, leadership, mathematics...
On other side, all players inside of WoW will be very unhappy, because you just brought them 20 noobs that will die out in bgs, making everyone lose xD
@Davenmor All accounts are managed by teachers with strict parental controls turned on. They don't access their accounts outside of the program. All student play is directly tied to a particular learning objective. And yes, we are addressing a variety of issues related to digital citizenship and responsible technology use. It's one of the project's goals.
@HomerJS24 Keep in mind here, this program isn't really about World of Warcraft at all. It's about enriching students' reading/writing skills. The video game is just the vehicle. It provides an exciting context. Students are spending most of their class time completing project lessons. See examples of their work at the project wiki.
@HomerJS24 As an educator, I can tell you that the kids are learning and not even realizing it. WoW offers the students a real-world context in which to learn and apply important skills (reading, writing, communication, leadership, mathematics). To the teachers who started this program, THIS IS AWESOME!!
@qqqqq942 We hope to be posting more videos about this project in the coming months. Our goal is to have students create machinima which we'll be sharing.
This is just what James Paul Gee is talking about in his book "What video games have to teach us about Literacy and Learning"
This here is a great example of the learning aspects of video games. The students really engange in thier virtual identities, and being active in the affinity group by talking to other students over the country.
It makes me glad to see this, and i hope this project spreads around the world!
@nerdscience infact, i think this project may have been an inspiration for many things happening in school today. for example for my GCSE's this year, i took creative media, which is learning about video games and marketing and such, thank you for showing people that video games can be used to teach students different skills that are often overlooked just because alot of adults think playing games is a waste of time and dont take the time to see that people are actually learning.
omg now wow is gonna be full of kids -_-

Also, you should try RuneScape in school, because I use to play it at a young age aswell. Maybe that would be a good test.

I'm curious to know of how long you did this survey and what level did one of the kids get to? aka the child who got to the highest level.
TheScapeGOD 1 month ago
@TheScapeGOD These guys got to around 45 or so. Our current group will have some getting closer to 70 I suspect.

Do you as well have classes where you discuss the danger of internet/game addiction and how to avoid it, keep well and fit?
Because how old are those kids, maybe 10-12? I doubt that they are able to control the playtime on their own even adulds have big problems with that!

Great idea, but why are they all alliance? O.o XD Jk, I wish we had this.
Bennie9296 1 year ago
@Bennie9296 Great question. That choice was made b/c the educators working with the kids already had Alliance characters there.
