Dude! Windows 7 has a Windows XP mode in the professional and ultimate editons. It makes all your Windows XP drivers, hardware, software, etc.; commaptible with Windows 7! But it doesn't come with it though. You can download it off of the Microsoft web site. Windows XP mode doesn't work in the home premium version though. D= But I have Windows 7 RC version on my desktop computer. And it doesn't have the Windows XP mode. But worked fine with a Windows XP printer driver; and other windows XP stuff

Did you do your research? Vista came out yesterday and Microsoft probably did just what they always do. Usually (but not always) they update the kernel and add a few doodads so it seems like the programmers earned their pay. Then they force you through various methods (DirectX, lack of support, hardware vendor contracts, etc.) to shell out $300 for the latest and samest operating system they made.
I did do my research. I have been running windows 7 for over a year starting with the early builds. Even in beta it was the fastest and most stable OS i have ever used. I have also been running the RTM since august and it works perfectly.

I just installed 7 in virtualbox today. I have to say it's nothing new and looks dated already. In fact, just about everything I saw was taken from Linux and KDE. The desktop looks like a watered down KDE. The sticky notes appear to be copied too.(I've used windows, linux, and a little BSD so they may be in mac, I dunno)
DirectX? it's slower for one. It's also used to force you to upgrade (was DX10 on XP?) and they (microsoft)use it to prevent porting games to other OS.
It is a far superior OS it vista under the hood. There is nothing wrong with taking things from other operating system. In fact it is a good idea. How is DX slower? The only competition it has is openGL which runs slightly faster -a billion features. DX does not force you to upgrade and making it exclusive to vista was a good business decision(It also works on XP if you look it up). Also of course they use it to make porting harder, any software company would do that if they had the majority.

(peasants in the 1500s thought they were doing fine but people in 10 times better condition today feel like they have it bad.) Try using Ubuntu or another user friendly distro for a while and you'll probably question why you work for Microsoft. Seriously, read about FOSS as opposed to licensed software. You don't even have to install Linux to try it.
I think Windows Vista is better for DOS gaming than Windows 7 especially tank wars. (One of my favorite DOS games.) If you're using Windows 7! Even with a DOS Box emulator won't fix the bad dis-coloration. But in Windows Vista. There is no dis-coloration when I use DOS Box emulator. And in Tank Wars. The dis-coloration is so bad (In Windows 7) that when I press the "tab" key. I don't know wich weapon I have selected
It depends on what you want to do. Most cases Windows, sometimes companies like EA have ported games for Apple's OS. If you want to play with Open Source games built in Linux, you should try Linux. If your game wasn't cloned, you can try to play with WINE (Wine Is Not an Emulator) which has a copy of the Win API to execute Windows programmes. I have never tried it before with Linux.

It's not ugly. I find it VERY atractive. They re-named the task bar in Windows 7. The SUPER BAR!!! =D And notice that the icons are bigger. but take up less space! If you hover over a running application on your super bar, then you'll get a thumbnail preview of the app. If you hover over the thumbnail, then you get a preview that's the actually size of the app. If you wish to learn more. The "Super Bar" looks like a rehash of the OS X Dock I've been using for years. The only thing Super Bar has that Dock doesn't is the mini preview windows, otherwise it's just a direct copy of Expose, which as been around since OS X 10.3 (which came out about the same time as XP SP2 did).
Having said that, I agree with you that it's a huge improvement over the old (it came from Windows 95) taskbar system. Yet, it's not enough for me to give up Snow Leopard; it just makes my work day easier.

U have to get a normal install to get the most out of it. But Linux is for the more advance user. Vista is embarassingly bad. "Defender, IE etc has stopped working - check online for a solution and restart" . Never once has a solution been suggested. Not fit for purpose would describe this OS. It is difficult to believe that a company that has been producing OS for over 20 years can produce something so flakey and completely useless. Msoft should give all users automatic downgrades to XP or even better to a different OS altogether.
@AAMCVideos Oh god, it is kinda is Microsoft's fault for vista being a flop. When they released it they clearly didn't test it will to see what hardware worked and did not work with the OS. Because of this new computers/hardware at that time sometimes worked, sometimes it BSoD on install and magically your mouse and sound card don't work correctly. Now Microsoft has went out of their way to fix it but it was too late. First impressions count in business. Also its still a memory hog even today.

I've seen more BSOD and RSOD errors on Vista and 7 than I have GSOD messages on real Macs running OS X. Even on Hackintoshes (which is what I'm using, BTW), I only see GSODs during OS X installation, and it's usually corrected by adding or removing a KEXT file.
For those saying "Vista sucks," have you even used Vista? It did suck when it was first released, very much so. However, it's been a long time since then and it has MUCH improved.
I would suggest giving it a try, but Windows 7 is coming soon and I hear that is better than both Vista and XP, so I would hold off for that instead.
you can't rely on Vista when the system locks up every 30 seconds, and then you realize that you've got to spend £200 on new hardware to fix those problems...
Maybe if you live in the 90's or haven't upgraded your hardware in over 5 years. I only have 2 gigabytes of RAM on my laptop and have NEVER gone over 77% while having multiple, different applications running at the same time (I like to multitask ^.^ ).
P.S. My computer is almost 2 years old and it has frozen maybe 4 times. Sounds like someone just got a lemon for a computer ;) ask for your money back.

The "Super Bar" looks like a rehash of the OS X Dock I've been using for years. The only thing Super Bar has that Dock doesn't is the mini preview windows, otherwise it's just a direct copy of Expose, which as been around since OS X 10.3 (which came out about the same time as XP SP2 did).
Having said that, I agree with you that it's a huge improvement over the old (it came from Windows 95) taskbar system. Yet, it's not enough for me to give up Snow Leopard; it just makes my work day easier.

@camargo2012 Nah, i prefer XP over Vista while I have a very decent pc. Of course Windows 7 is better :P. But Linux pwns them all.

@lcmy linux sucks! i tried it on virtual box and it sucked! you cant do video processing and gaming as fast like vista and windows 7, windows xp is old and vista and windows 7 are faster and better now, windows 7 is the same thing as vista but with a different UI.

@camargo2012 Nope, there are a lot of other changes in windows 7 and now it's a lot more stable. And yeah, running systems in virtualbox sucks. U have to get a normal install to get the most out of it. But Linux is for the more advance user. U have 2 tweak much to get it optimal, but when u have it optimal it works a lot better than other OS's.

Vista is embarassingly bad. "Defender, IE etc has stopped working - check online for a solution and restart" . Never once has a solution been suggested. Not fit for purpose would describe this OS. It is difficult to believe that a company that has been producing OS for over 20 years can produce something so flakey and completely useless. Msoft should give all users automatic downgrades to XP or even better to a different OS altogether.

@AAMCVideos Oh god, it is kinda is Microsoft's fault for vista being a flop. When they released it they clearly didn't test it will to see what hardware worked and did not work with the OS. Because of this new computers/hardware at that time sometimes worked, sometimes it BSoD on install and magically your mouse and sound card don't work correctly. Now Microsoft has went out of their way to fix it but it was too late. First impressions count in business. Also its still a memory hog even today.

idk why you people are saying vista sucks! i mean sure in the first 2 months after release it had some compalitbility issues, but that was all solved.
macs crash more often that my vista, you know why it seem vistas crash so much? because 95% of the markets uses it, which mean its is reported 95 more times than when a mac is crashed

I've seen more BSOD and RSOD errors on Vista and 7 than I have GSOD messages on real Macs running OS X. Even on Hackintoshes (which is what I'm using, BTW), I only see GSODs during OS X installation, and it's usually corrected by adding or removing a KEXT file.

For those saying "Vista sucks," have you even used Vista? It did suck when it was first released, very much so. However, it's been a long time since then and it has MUCH improved.
I would suggest giving it a try, but Windows 7 is coming soon and I hear that is better than both Vista and XP, so I would hold off for that instead.

and windows 7 i have on my old pc. all windows 7 is is windows vista with a dock... how original. and it takes less resources.

Maybe if you live in the 90's or haven't upgraded your hardware in over 5 years. I only have 2 gigabytes of RAM on my laptop and have NEVER gone over 77% while having multiple, different applications running at the same time (I like to multitask ^.^ ).
P.S. My computer is almost 2 years old and it has frozen maybe 4 times. Sounds like someone just got a lemon for a computer ;) ask for your money back.

not anymore - analysts are saying that Windows 7 (expecially 64 bit) is more secure than OSX. apple is actually in the process of making a security suite for OSX.

files don't auto launch in windows 7 either. that was a big change they made to it. and no, a virus can't modify the safemode reg unless it is given admin rights, which 99% of programs are not given unless you blantenly give it to the program

i have NEVER crashed with vista, xp OR win 2000. if you dont install shit on it, it will be fine. macs look better and are built better, but thats about it. and yes MACS DO CRASH!!!!!!!!!

battlefield 2141
and a few more, not that many...
but i usually use ps3 for games anyway.

your not aware that a mac isnt a pc are you? what are you 10? i have owned 4 windows pc's. win 95 was ok. 98 was poor 2000 was piss poor. xp was ok. vista is terrible all of them crashed. all of them displayed error messages. i had a vista laptop for four months. i ditched it after just 4 months it was that poor, its unreliable, crashes more than bandicoot, oh and there are more viruses for it windows than there are square feet of ocean floor

hum hyphh, you forgot that pc means personal computers. so yes mac is a pc. btw 2000 and xp use the same technology (NT) so they were both ok, and yes i got a lot of error messages in vista, but nothing i couldnt fix in a few secs

mac is a pc technically yes, however is is usually pc's are commonly know as windows based. also, macs arent as personal if you stretch the word, as they are hugely less customizable. and if you think 2000 was ok your either high, or plain stupid

Vista is the worst technology in the world. PC games only work for a month before becoming incompatible, and it doesn't even let me attach files to my hotmail email.

The new Mac totally pwns Vista, 10 times! It has 300+ new features, you'll find at least 20 that you actually want. Vista, on the other hand, focuses on the taskbar's beauty, and making the Windows logo on its start menu button. Wow. Unbelievable...
