  • Tim Collins of the Royals has a delivery not unlike this from the left side, throws pretty hard, and is only 5'5" or so. Pitchers like Collins and Lincecum are great examples of using mechanics to get everything you can on the pitch despite your size.

  • I think Tim Lincecum's style is my favorite in the MLB.

  • Freeze the video at :34 and you'll see why he throws as hard as he does, being such a skinny dude. Things to look at here are 1. his drive leg is fully extended at all three joints. 2. his strike is freakishly long. 3. His hips are firing toward the target already while his shoulders are still completely closed to the target. This means his core torque force is going to be maximized and this is going to transfer a max amount of energy to the ball once his front leg braces up. POWERFUL!

  • @forkball1968 I meant his stride was long... not his strike. ;)

  • What a freak.

  • if u pause at :33 thats where all his power comes from the angle from throwing shoulder to lead hip

  • Huh... Tim lands on his heel even though there is a "science" pitching teacher out there who says to land on the ball of your foot. Interesting...

  • @ThumperOne Many coaches do seem to have tunnel vision in one or more areas of their craft. Personally, I prefer coaches who are obviously engaged in life-long study and enjoy continued learning versus those who tend to "circle the wagons" around whatever they think they know...even in the face of evidence that they are wrong.

  • @laflippin ...i completely agree about coaches that have tunnel vision......but let me just say that Lincecum doesn't land on his heel, and that if he did (based on HIS mechanics) it wouldn't be a favorable result. His heel does seem to touch the ground just prior to his weight shift, but clearly once he's shifting his weight, its not on his heel. So saying he "lands on his heel" isn't true, because at not point does his weight shift to the heel....it does to the ball of the foot though

  • @laflippin

Exactly. Like this video, for instance, disproves every single mechanics coach that teaches anything about the arms or legs when they teach pitching. Its clear in this video the torso is leading the movement, so the pitcher is clearly thinking about the torso. Not the arms and legs.

  • @ThumperOne But he can still throw 97, so evidently he is doing something right.

  • @ThumperOne to me it looked like his whole foot?

  • @ThumperOne I think it's that his heel is what hits first but you see him get his foot all the way down eventually

  • @ThumperOne It's possible that for most people it's better to land on the ball of your foot. Most rules have exceptions, but are nonetheless usually valid.

  • @ThumperOne to be fair his whole foot lands at the same time

  • Best pitcher ever.i dont care wat anyone says.oh yea iv been a giants fan since i waz about 4 im not a fake ass fan like some who only like us cuz were the champs now.tim all day Giants til the grave man best team ever.Champs yyyeeeeaahhh.

  • honestly, i'd like to see it slower. when the throw starts, it all starts moving too fast for me to watch everything.

  • favorite baseball player....i'm going to kill myself trying to reenact his pitch

  • at one point his knee is facing second ha. i love watching him pitch

  • DA FREEEEEAAAAAKKKKKKK TIM IS A BAD ASS PITCHER IM JUST HAPPY HES A GIANT............

  • I'm Japanese,but I like his pitching.

  • BIG TIME TIMMY JIM!

  • why does that look like it would hurt me so badly

  • i never get tired watching this

  • exquisite

  • @nuclearRabbit123 I've never ever seen a stretch as long reaching as his ... and he twists his upper body around in a longer range ... they say that's how he gets all the power for such a small pitcher ... teams passed him up in the draft because they thought he was too little ... but now he has 2 Cy Young awards and a Championship ring in his first 3 years .. so their loss!! YAY GIANTS!!! :)

I don't know much about it either, but just from what I see and hear and read. He's AMAZING!!! :)

  • AMAZING!!! :)

  • @nuclearRabbit123 The stride, the torque, and the arm rotation. He steps forward 122 percent of his own height, on average (most pitchers step about 70 percent of theirs), twists his torso and shoulders almost 270 degrees from start to finish, and flings his back arm like a trebuchet.

  • @nuclearRabbit123 There is a Sports Illustrated article also that answers your question.

  • when the ball leaves his fingertips, BOOOOOOM !

  • The F R E A K

  • Sorry to post twice , but Tim is amazing !

  • He is the only reason to watch the game !

  • Definitely one of my favorite pitchers. Im a braves fan and I watched the Post-Season game vs the Braves only to watch Lincecum destroy my own team. Love watching this guy.

  • his arm looks like a slingshot at 0:34

  • yes, thank u for these videos. best mechanical breakdown vids on the tube

  • i was at this game!!! pretty much the view i had from my seat!

  • This guy is gonna be one of the all time greats, really. His delivery, everything, he will be remembered, he will mmake it all the way to the Hall of Fame.

  • grab some pine, meat.

  • hhhhhuuuuugggggeeeeee stride

  • He usually likes to try and kick the short stop with his wind up and he wants everyone to know his name and number so he does like a complete 360 with his torso haha but hes a freak if it works it works hes like 5'9'' and throws 95

  • He's all arms and legs

  • @calebzbleeding1 no, he doesnt use any of his arm, not one bit.

  • @SimpleStuff31 I meant that's what he looks like...lol

  • Same heere bro

  • Gotta love The Freak.

  • OHH TIMMY~~~

  • "My whole body turns, my arm just comes along for the ride." - TL

  • awsome video

  • a modern day right handed sandy koufax...so dirty

  • great wind up...his stride and big overarm delivery kind of reminds me of Koufax.

  • 2 cy youngs in a row, and counting...

  • Tim Lincecum will be around for a long time. He is unique, and amazing.

  • Iove this guy's wind up.

  • Just stay healthy

  • thats why he's called the freak man. one of my favorite pitchers

  • this used to be the dominant pitching style. more forward motion and emphasis on leg power. most japanese pitchers still pitch like this

  • i agree tim is easily the best. he knows how to pitch and he is great. go tim!!

  • TIM Lincecum you are the best pitcher in the Mlb

  • his stride is so long

im tellin you hes not human

  • his stride in college was even more elongated then it is now. His dangle 7 1/2 feet consistently. Now it's around 6 2/3, 7 feet consistently.

  • it amazing how much velocity he gets for beening such a small guy

  • You act like the man is 5 feet tall. He's almost 6 feet tall and thats right around avg

  • thats small for a pitcher. Generally power pitchers are 6'5+

  • Yes I agree with you that's on the smaller side for a pitcher. but the other guy made it sound like he's a midget.

  • Not that tall... 6'0 is usually the cut off point for alot of pitchers

  • he's like 5 foot 10 and the average is like 6 foot 2 or 6 foot 4

  • well im half philipino and half american just like him and im kinda tall it must just run in my blood but yes its carzy he does get so much velocity i pitch like him and i have the same number as him

  • this is probly the best slow video of Tim he an amazing pitcher i love this guy

  • this is my fav pitcher of all time

  • @CoD4SkRaTeBeAsTz mine too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that is sick, good quality on video, good angle to 5/5
