If you read any military handbook on tactics you'll find it's much easier to defend than to assault. In fact, it's strongly stated the attacking forces should have a numerical superiority of at least 2.5 to 1. Since Germany was on the defensive for most of the war, of course it took more men to assault them. It's a mathematical certainty. They were good soldiers but not the "supermen" a lot of asshole's make them out to be.

After WW2 millions of German POW's were housed in open air concentration camps, open fields ringed with barbed wire, with no shelter whatsoever and no proper sanitation. To avoid application of the provisions of the Geneva Convention, which required that they be fed the same rations as US servicemen, their "legal status" ws changed to "Disarmed Enemy Conbatants" Search with the keywords "Eisenhower's Death Camps"

Then a reconaissance mission if there is still resistance. If there ist, mass bombardment again. Heavy combat was unpopular for the average GI. American tanks were not allowed to engage against Tigers unless they had at least a 5:1 ratio. Without that moron Hitler the yankees wouldn't have even succeeded in Normandy.

An amazing little piece of propaganda, Many of these sailors didn't make it home. In the begining of the war they were in their glory days. But as technology advanced they became easier to hunt. Plus the fact that we cracked the Uboat communication codes. Go read some books it was alot different than shown here
