The quickest way to keep Obama in the White House until 2016 is to nominate Ron Paul or this idiot Huntsman. Both scare the crap out of me but at least I respect Paul's adherence to the Austrian school of economics.

What Newt was saying was that (theoretically) if we unemployment were not at its absurd level it is today, SS would not be in such dire straits. After all, last year, SS paid more out in benefits than it took in in taxes. Had more people been working, the program may have paid enough to cover it. Its all academic because what happened has happened and cannot be taken back.

Still the republicans blame the program itself and rather see it go to the "job creators" which just is a coin term for the rich.

1988-1990 saw the top tax rates at 28%. That is lower than where it is now.
In 2003, President Bush, Jr. lowered the top rate to 35%, where it sits currently. In 2002, President Bush lowered the minimum tax rate to 10%, where it sits now.
Why would the Democratic liberals want to take credit for tax rates that they didn't create? Is this just another case of blaming the previous administration for $14 trillion in debt and taking credit for the same administration's economic policies?
