Anyone else think its kind of funny how Brits will mock Americans because some hick school boards try to get creationism in public schools, while their national government supports this?
@DejectedPanda I live in Scotland and I totally mock creationism being taught in public schools. This is the first I've heard of homeopathy being paid for by us, so the first thing I'm doing tomorrow is making an appointment with my MSP. (I also hold homeopathy in the same regard as religious belief).
have these people ever heard of the term "placebo effect"?
what is it with Europeans? Just about everyone in America would laugh at you if you tried to tell them you were going to give them water. America is behind the rest of the world in education, really?
@Macrochenia as far as i know, nobody I know has ever used homeopathic remedies for their illness. if they know what is wrong with them, they go get aspirin/immodium/ex-lax/benadryl or whatever medicine they need. if they don't know then they go to a real doctor who gives them a prescription for an actual drug.
@kriztufer2001 Congratulations on that, but there are still a lot of people who think that taking diluted water or supermassive vitamin C pills will cure them of diseases.
He is another study. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health found oral vitamin C can achieve blood serum concentrations three times higher than previously thought possible, in the range of what the Cornell researchers reported. [Annals Internal Medicine 140:533–7, 2004]
@Kingfillins Funny, but having higher blood levels of vitamin C!= vitamin C having any effect on the immune system. And I just checked the NIH's website- they list it as not having any special ability to fight off infection, it didn't score any better than placebo.
@Macrochenia Investigate the topic thoroughly. Mainstream medicine is stone walling this therapy. If you look to the NHS you wont get the truth. Look at the references I posted for a start.
Studies refuting Vit C have not followed the recommended protocol. ie applied lower doses and not frequent enough doses.

@GeneticsFTW No need to rage. The reason there is NHS homeopathy is that there were hospitals offering homeopathic medicine by doctors BEFORE the creation of the NHS. These hospitals were invited to become part of the NHS then even though homeopathy was just as 'implausible' then as it is now. The people want it and it's safe and effective.
It's funny, I had swimmers ear a few weeks back and my mom brought me some drops, I took them and felt better afterward.. the next time I went to put them in I noticed that they were homeopathic and immediately stopped
I guess the placebo effect is pretty damn strong because before I saw the label I was sure they were helping
actually, I put them in a second time and didn't feel much better at all now that I recall it
@glemmstengal though recent research showed that the placebo effect can work even when people know that they are taking a placebo. It is just as likely that your body's own defences took care of the infection as the placebo, acknowledged or not.
It's not Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. At the end of this clip it's Creep by Radiohead, possibly performed by the Belgian choir group Scala & Kolacny Brothers. You can hear it in the trailer for the film 'Social Network'.
Homeopathy organizations are still active, even in Norway. Thankfully for you and other Norwegians you have the Kvakksalverloven (The law of quackery).
@mcmoogol We do! But not just Scotland - there's a homeopathic hospital in London, and NHS support for homeopathy throughout the UK (and other countries remember). Her assertion that the Scottish NHS has "thrown it's support" behind homeopathy is "interesting". The support is a historic throwback, not something new.
hmmm, unless we're not talking about the same music, i'm pretty sure it is "The Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd from the "Dark Side of the Moon" album. A master piece if you ask me...
