man what happened to dowdy was controversial. Alot of the marines under his command felt it was the wrong thing to do. Plus it wasn't really Mattis who really spoke to him most of the time, it was his assistant.
He was relieved of command. Many marines contend this was more of a doctrinal issue, not a competency one. I'm not a marine, but from what I've read in various news articles, Colonel Dowdy was an exemplary officer.
@RavingDissension Was he kicked out of the USMC completely? It is interesting to note that before the 2003 Iraq War, Lt Col Ferrando had little combat experience as did a number of the officers in the 1st Recon Battalion.Even Gen Mattis himself didnt actually acquire any combat experience until he attained the rank of brigadier..
He wasn't "kicked out" per se. But once you're relieved of command, it's a common fact that you will not receive further assignments. Therefore, once relieved, many choose to retire or resign. Needless to say, once you're command is taken away, your career is effectively over.
Iran have a major problem if they try to start shit with us.

I love this scene. If there was anything GK needed more of, it was more Robert John Burke as Major General Mattis!
