I can't comment on the Connecticut Constitution, but on the federal level, the banning of it violates four amendments: separation of church and state, due process, enumerated rights, and equal treatment under the laws. Gay marriage is wrong under YOUR religion, but there are millions who disagree. I contend that it's a mark of progress. SCOTUS has ruled twice that marriage is a basic civil right (Loving vs Virginia, Skinner vs Oklahoma). Rights cannot be arbitrarily applied.
There is no amendment stating a seperation of church and state. What is pretty much stated is that the government will stay out of the church's business and will not pass laws preventing the freedom to practice one's religion. There is nothing new about homosexuality, it has been a fringe issue for most of human history the problem is that it never has been, is not and never will be the "norm". Thus pushing same-sex marriage and the specific sexual practices into being taught as normal or acceptable what have you is part of the homosexual agenda since they do not reproduce...and again, never have, do not and never will.

I am disgusted with my home state of CT. So much history and great men have come from here in the past yet today it continues to head downhill. Civil unions is another term for second-class citizenship. Further, you don't seem to grasp the difference between democracy and liberty. If the people vote to ban gay marriage, that's democracy in action, but it's also an infringement on the liberties of the minority. The very concept of civil rights exists because majorities tend to get abusive toward minorities.
I'm proud of Connecticut. This will go down in history as that state being more advanced than most other states.

Are you insane? You already have the same exact rights as everybody else including the right to a real marriage. The fact that you will never use that is not the governments problem.
When the people allow civil unions rights normally associated with marriage are being extended to you. That is not "second-class citizenship".

If you marry someone you're not in love with, and not attracted to, how can it be a real marriage? You set up heterosexual marriage as the ideal. But if a certain path in life doesn't respond to your predilections, your innermost needs and desires, how can it be an ideal?
Civil unions is second-class citizenship no matter how you phrase it. It's saying that gay people are not worthy of marriage.

The rights of minorities was never granted through the wills of majorities. In fact, the very concept of civil rights is born out of this fact.
If "we the people" always had its way, blacks would still be sitting at the back of the bus. When Loving vs Virginia was ruled by the Supreme Court, a set majority opposed the decision. There were more people against interracial marriage in 1968 than there are against gay marriage today.

In the firm I worked for, one gay man disclosed his orientation in private to one individual. An eavesdropper who wasn't noticed spread the word around. The news spread like wildfire. "He's gay! He's gay!" A few guys started taunting him.

Civil rights are not denied, and never meant to be denied, on the basis of income. One of the propaganda ploys is that gays are not entitled to their rights because their incomes on the average are much higher. Not according to the study held by the University of Maryland.

What has happened in Connecticut, my home state was not because the people agreed. It was because idiotic liberal judges made the call.

I can't comment on the Connecticut Constitution, but on the federal level, the banning of it violates four amendments: separation of church and state, due process, enumerated rights, and equal treatment under the laws. Gay marriage is wrong under YOUR religion, but there are millions who disagree. I contend that it's a mark of progress. SCOTUS has ruled twice that marriage is a basic civil right (Loving vs Virginia, Skinner vs Oklahoma). Rights cannot be arbitrarily applied.

There is no amendment stating a seperation of church and state. What is pretty much stated is that the government will stay out of the church's business and will not pass laws preventing the freedom to practice one's religion. This does not mean we are not a Christian nation and we can't have "In God we Trust." on the dollar bill like some insist.
Regardless gays have the same rights as everybody else, including a right to marriage, yet don't have control over what marriage is.

There is indeed a separation of church and state. On record are various writings by Jefferson and Madison, explaining precisely what the First Amendment means. You have been duped by religious right rhetoric that is trying to revise history. David Barton is the creationist of American history, a fraud who has been debunked by experts. Also, some of the Founding Fathers are on record as saying that we were NOT founded as a Christian nation, and that includes George Washington.

Have you read Tocqueville? According to him, everyone. that is, THE PEOPLE, he met was in strong favor of the separation of church and state, even the pastors. He said he never met an American who was against it. I read the entire massive book, Democracy in America. You should read it too. You have lots to learn. Yet he found religious devotion to be quite high, more than any place in Europe.

Connecticut already had civil unions provding all of the rights of marriage before this. What has happened is an injustice against the people of this state. Your advanced Court's decision means that you can't decide for others how they're going to conduct their lives. If the pursuit of happiness means anything, it means settling down with someone you're in love with.
This tendency to denounce liberalism in this culture makes me vomit. The Founding Fathers were liberals, the Constitution is a liberal document, liberalism is the basic American principle. The courts, education, are better off when in the hands of liberals.

If you deny the separation of church and state, that could mean that you've been subjected to the revisionist history of David Barton. This denial has a political motive. Jefferson, in his own writings, and to a letter to Danbury Baptists, explained succintly what the First Amendment means, and he specially used the phrase "church and state" James Madison, in his writings, also explained the meaning of the amendment, and used the phrase "separation of religion and government."

I don't understand why this bothers people so much. People don't choose to be gay. If government is going to be involved in marriage, then they have a responsibility to offer it to everyone. You don't have to acknowledge it and neither does your church.
