Some really lovely examples of American Classics, paint jobs look amazing on some ! We have t a good few in our club in UK, but they are becoming more expensive to run with petrol (gas) at ubout £5.50p per gallon an dalways on the up. I recon they are more expensive to run than a Rolls Royce here ;-)

Autos built prior to the mid 70's are a joy to look at, not so much the newer models. @sluggo06 Move to california if you want steady work. Watch the program on TLC or Discovery Channel called "OverHauling". Chip Foose is like the grand wizard of that field, also an older guy (Something) Boyd. You can get an idea whether you'd like that kind of work. You pretty much have to learn one of the restoration crafts, so if your not already a craftsman in that field, it'll mean starting at the bottom in a shop and working your way up, which MANY have done. It's a pride thing!
@sluggo06 Wow, that's a lot of square feet to cover. How much money are you willing to put into it? Gonna keep it or sell it? Parts? Hows the engine, running? A Foose restoration of that hearse would probably run between 40-$50,000. But you probably aren't looking for that so I'd consider redoing all the chrome, paint and bring the engine up to speed. In stages! Then you can work on the interior. OR just drive as is and enjoy all the stares. You might get an offer for it on the street.
@everythinguwanted im willing to put in as much as it takes i guess. just in small spurts. i plan on keeping it. it has nearly everything under the hood. the engine dont run but i am planning on getting it rebuilt. my two main concerns right now are the frame and engine.
@sluggo06 Are you trained in engine repair. Do you have a garage/workspace to work in? Is the frame bent? Crash? Man, if you dont have some connections in the mechanic world or are one yourself, you are looking at a big job. I don't know what's on the YT OverHaulin vids, but if you can watch a whole episode where they take an old rusty piece of junk and turn it into a show car, you can get an idea how much work goes into restoration. Wish I could help more, but restoration is not my field.
@everythinguwanted i plan on taking classes for working on cars. and as for mechanics, the ones around town dont seem like they wanna work on the car. they say they will and never do. :(
@everythinguwanted no they havent seen a nickel of my money. Yeah, its wierd that they dont wanna make money on it. i assume my old caddy would be easier than a modern car.
@sluggo06 Has any mechanic looked at the car and given any opinion about it's condition? A mechanic in a regular fix-it place is not going to want to fool with it 'cause they make their money on volume...get 'em in, move 'em out. Your caddy would just be taking up space and providing no revenue. If you are dead serious about this, your gonna have to pull the engine and take it to a restoration guy, maybe out of town. Get an estimate on what it will set you back to bring it to operational state.
@sluggo06 Then you'll have to repeat the process with the tranny and tow the thing to a frame shop, have the wiring checked out, this is probably gonna take you 5-10 years of your life, unless you have a fat wallet. i'm gonna pm you a message, it will show up in your inbox, ok?
Buying an old car is stupid, and wrong. Look at it this way. Would you go to an old peoples home and date an old woman from that home if you were 25 years old? FUCK NO... Well it's the same with old cars, leave them in the past. Buy a new car. And an other thing, the money they spent to do up these old wrecks is farr more than a new car, so set your life on the right road. Buy a new car, new cars are like cheer leaders, sexy, hot, and young, not an old hagg. News cars are always better.
@macktheknife888 That's the 2nd most ignorant remark I've ever seen on YouTube. @mquiroz90 What's you're point? LOL, I feel sorry for the Americans, no class, almost all of these cars would fall over if they got anywhere near a corner. All noise and flash piant, the only decent ones were the 3L Healey, Xk120 Jag and a Porsche 911.
what a fucking dumbass. youre shitty imports handle better than these cars not because theyre imports, but because theyre new. these cars are anywhere from 40 to 90 yrs old. the technology back then sucked, i'd like to see how 1932 imports handled. oh wait, you dont see any because theyre all worthless shit.
also, new american cars handle just as good if not better than new imports. dont compare somehting with a 50 yr age difference, dumbass. get a life.
i have to say, as much as i would hate to be running one of those, they are beautifull, and what a sound they make. If oil didn cause the trouble it, my car would have a v8!
out of interest whats the price per litre of veg over there? in uk it used to be half the price of diesel but now everyone uses it its almost the same price :/
you can get diesel V8s. not sure if they can run on veg but they are monsterous torquey engines.
Good vege oil is about about 20-25 cent behind diesel, but again its hard to get, alot of the companies making it here will assign every litre they make to haulage or cab comapanies so the domestic user rely has to rely on petroleum products.
Its a shame, but over here v8's aint for the working man...
you dont need good veg oil. just buy brand new cooking oil, the cheapest you can possibly get. dont buy biodiesel.
in england we have found that if you mix 1 litre turps (white spirit) per every 15 litres of veg oil this prevents the rubber seals shrinking and helps on colder mornings. for temps less than 10c you need a higher mix of diesel to veg. i buy from asda and fill up in the car park, or a petrol garage. get some strange looks but its ok.
you obviously have no idea, and no appreciation for classic items. i think the whole of america feels sorry for you for your unfortunate lack of appreciation and desire.
Hey! Little Canadian Boy! What you are looking at is "Ambulatoy ART"! So,Scoot your little Toy Hybrid over the border and get lost! That T.H. of yours is, and will never be considered "ART" in any catagory!
The American Dream is:I have a friend who is from Armenia. His dad had always thought "if I ever go to America I want to have a 62 Caddy". Fifteen yrs ago they moved to America. Six months ago my friend bought that 62 Caddy for his dad. He made his fathers dream come true. Now they spend time together going to car clubs and restoring that car with love and determination. Now THAT'S an "American Dream" come true.
HELLO... DR2626. when people from Europe travel to USA or Canada it's not to see some gay Toyota Prius.. it's to see some real american iron made cars.

what a fucking dumbass. youre shitty imports handle better than these cars not because theyre imports, but because theyre new. these cars are anywhere from 40 to 90 yrs old. the technology back then sucked, i'd like to see how 1932 imports handled. oh wait, you dont see any because theyre all worthless shit.
also, new american cars handle just as good if not better than new imports. dont compare somehting with a 50 yr age difference, dumbass. get a life.

i have to say, as much as i would hate to be running one of those, they are beautifull, and what a sound they make. If oil didn cause the trouble it, my car would have a v8!

dont be daft. most petrol engines can be converted to LPG gas which is half the price of petrol and is more plentiful.
i run my 3.0 litre diesel on vegetable oil with no modifications, this is a renewable fuel - it grows on a farm!
BMW are now making a V12 which runs on hydrogen which can be extracted from water, and combusts to produce water.
old diesel trucks are the way forward with vegetable oil as a fuel. (doesnt have to be veg oil, can be any old cooking oil thats cheap.)

I live in ireland, LPG can't be got here. I run my passat on vegtable too, but its no petrol v8....
huskyblues 2 years ago
out of interest whats the price per litre of veg over there? in uk it used to be half the price of diesel but now everyone uses it its almost the same price :/
you can get diesel V8s. not sure if they can run on veg but they are monsterous torquey engines.
