Wait, wasn't one of the ideas of Dune that imperial shield technology made lasers dangerous to the point of being useless? Why doesn't paul train with a blade?
In 1992, Cryo made a video game known simply as Dune. The game was based on Book 1 and the player character Paul Atreides had to run spice production, military strategy, economy(and adventure) in a complex game that was very, very unique in it's style(not many games combine adventure and strategy) and very pleasing in it's storyline alterations.
In 2001, Cryo finally returned to Dune and created this. And then they went bankrupt.
@DarthRushy I loved that original game. Had it for SEGA CD. Sadly I got hung up on the story. At one point you're supposed to find a "sand shape like a fish", or something. When i started scanning the map, i went the wrong way, and totally missed what i was supposed to find. I then mined the entire planet dry of spice and was in complete control. I got to the point where i couldn't afford tributes to the Emperor, and lost the game. Dammit!
@Stigmatainmypants I actually found the sand shape, but I couldn't find Chani's sietch until a few months ago. And then I couldn't afford the Emperor(I hate him). When I first played, I didn't know what to do with equipment and always failed. My record is that after meeting Kynes, I sterilized and semi-sterilized two sietches(filled with plants).
@DarthRushy And there was much rejoicing! For the Sega CD version, though, that was brilliant. If I remember correctly, Dune was even the first PC game to be commercially sold on CD instead of floppies. I remember the box art with the simple water drop concept.
@falariem I have the floppy version(but it is utterly awesome) and the only part I hated was Leto saying "THE SLEEPER MUST AWAKEN". That was laughable. Oh, and of course Shaddam too. If I have time I'll get a demo of this and check it out but Dune(and the sequel games) are really unique games.
Dune was unique due to adventure/strategy blend.
Dune 2 is the first "modern" strategy game.
Dune 2000 is a great remake, showing the passage of time.
@DarthRushy Yes, but if you really look at it, the original Dune also has very VERY basic RTS mechanics to it. Not so much the harvesting resources to build units part, but more with the strategy involved with finding sietches, training soldiers, the Ecology subplot, and the fact that the game clock is always running, time passing constantly (even if very slowly). Then, there is the strategy involved with sending spies and attacking bases, and how your presence on the field can tip the balance.
@falariem I know. I wish Dune II would've been more like Dune I. I preferred the original, the later strategy-only games didn't seem that perfect(my Dune 2000 abandonware copy doesn't have cutscenes DAMN)
I remember owning this game at one point but I could never get past that first sandworm part. Finally got so frustrated I literally took the game out of the cd drive and chucked it out the window. This game was such a disgrace to the name of Dune.
I can honestly say that this appears to be one of the worst games I have ever laid eyes on. I can merely thank you for taking the time to warn people. THANK YOU
the movie was made by david lynch, when the studio releases the extended version, lynch refuses to show in the film.but the original movie was done by DAVID LYNCH.

@dickchappyington Nice logic there, son. The fact that he pointed the flaws out doesn't mean he disliked the game.
