  • I have seen many the great guitar player. I arenas filled with thousands. One night I saw Mr. Hedges in a room with 250 people.

The GREATEST PLAYER I have ever seen, and I have seen many.

  • I love this guy's energy.

  • I completely lose it at 1:10

  • @:43 is quite amazing...indescribable.

  • Hedges ruled.

  • the way he yells before the chorus gives me gosebumps! its a very "the last samurai" feeling:D

  • About 3 years ago I "discovered" Michael Kelsey (even though his debute album was released in 1996) by happenchance at a local outdoor gig he was doing. Kelsey turned me on to Hedges as a primary major influence, and now I know why.

CANdYRAY records has amazing artists like this - Andy McKee (mentioned above), Antoine Dufour, Ewan Dobson, Stefano Barone, etc.

All, nothing short of amazing, innovative artists.

  • Anyone can play the Guitar like a Pro but Few Insanely Gifted Geniuses can add a Whole New Meaning to an Acoustic Instrument, So Sad he Died Young.

  • @worldwildwest......I couldnt have said it better myself, the man was a genius

  • This is the first time i've ever seen or heard of Michael Hedges, and this for me is the genre defined... for some reason, i felt this sweet soul is no longer on the planet... that seems to be the way of it for people who truly play.

    Thanks for sharing this vid

    RIP

  • is that an artificial harmonic at 1:10?

  • @bizzarefrog No, that's not the Hedges way. It is a crazy sound for 12th fret harmonic but if anyone could get crazy sounds out of a guitar, it was this guy!

  • What shall we call this genre that he created and that no one can duplicate? Ah! "Michael Hedges"! That'll work. Now what would a M.H. drummer sound like? or bassist or alto sax? or vocalist? One considers the group "Oregon" perhaps.

He reminds me of Benvenuto Cellini: a producer of incredibly beautiful, intricate, inimitable works of art. ... someone who comes along once every few centuries.

  • Guitar has been through many phases in a short time.

And throughout it there have been players that have been credited with the turning tides, and taking to the next level for the world to feed off and expand as it will.

I fear time will almost forget Michael Hedges amidst the McKees and Mayers in the realm of acoustic guitar. Whoever controls his estate should really consider re-releasing some material . . "Artist Profile" and such . . I'll be first in line to buy a copy and share the joy.

  • mancos colorado, i love you michael. was in austin texas when i heard you were playing there and you promised me i would sit there in the cafe next door. i decided to miss that concert, yet you died soon after, i went back to that venue and played your post humous 'oracle' album. i saw your spirit rise above the rockies at dawn. pierre bensusan loves you, goodbye michael.

  • Cool, he looked like the Predator when the clip fist starts.

  • Without question, this is genius. RIP. Almost want to shed i tear that i never turn on the tv and see this sort of quality anymore, just manufactured bands chasing big money. Whats happened to the world.

  • ive been addicted to this guy, chet atkins, and domonic frasca for like the past week

  • I first heard Michael on a Windam Hill compilation CD in 1992. I 'found' a few songs here on u-tube, thanks to fans for keeping his music going for up-and-coming guitar players to marvel upon.

  • I saw Michael Hedges live at UAB in Birmingham in 1989. There was a small section that was curtained off for a crowd of about 300 people . He came out and BLEW EVERYONE AWAY.......I consider it a blessing to have had the opportunity to see him live. Words cannot describe his unique talent.

  • The quality was good enough to bring a tear to my eye. Love this song.

  • Shit.. that was amazing

  • I love how *every* live rendition of this song is unique. He probably played this song thousands of times, but every single time was still a work of art. You can see it in his face and in his motions. I only wish I could have met the man.

  • i wonder who has his guitar now...

  • I heard his brother although I'm not sure at all. I don't even know if he has a brother.

I do know that the guitar was pretty beat up because of all the repairs he did himself.

  • it probably still sounds amazing

  • So do I, so do I...

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • agreed.

  • Horrrrrrrrrrrible quality, but great nonetheless :D

  • its from 87...

  • Very astute observation, your cookie will be waiting for you underneath the anvil held 200 feet in the air by a cable and pulley

  • lolz

  • The Master! Type3secretion - thanks so much!

  • My favorite of his.

  • my dad can play this song perfectly along with 2 days-old and many others

  • What a special song. Always through the name ragamuffin was a strange name for such a refined and thoughtful song.

  • que buena

  • I was luck to have seen MH. Sensational!

  • i have just "discovered" this genre of music. i discovered it like the the English discovered India. It was always there, but i failed to to search for this type of music. i have always listened to what was on the radio and tv. the pop stuff. but i now know that isn't where the true music or musicians live. they are out playing in small clubs.i love Andy Mckee, and don ross. i just wished i could have seen The Man live(Michael Hedges). RIP Michael. what do you think of Andy? he looks up to you

  • Good for you Ricardo323. Enjoy the journey!

  • I love this guy im so sad that he's gone =(

  • Thanks so much for sharing these!
