  • Faith alone contradicts the Bible in muiltiple places... Except that one part in the Protestant Bible that Martin Luther CHANGED, you know it doesn't contradict that part. It also doesn't contradict it in any of the 7 books of the old testament that Martin Luther torn out of the original Bible for some random reason... =P

  • Hmm.... tell me, how many fruits or works does it take to make a dead faith live? Anyone? Anyone?

  • @waltherchemnitz

    Not quantity but Quality

    1st Cor 13

"I have ALL THE FAITH necessary to move mountains, if I am without love, I am nothing"

"Though I should GIVE away TO THE POOR ALL that I possess, and even give up my body to be burned, if I am without love, it will do me no good whatever"

    (Paul writtings)

Whatever you do, do it because you LOVE God and your neighbors. If you have FAITH in God, have it because you LOVE HIM, thats what is important. Obey Jesus loving your neighbor

    Blesses

  • @mjmenjivar How many good works does it take to make a dead faith live?

  • @waltherchemnitz

    You didnt read ..

    God bless you,,

Obey the Scriptures my friend, obey Jesus,,, Love your neighbor,, clothed the naked, visit the sick,,, be a christian my friend..

God bless you in this journey

  • @mjmenjivar How many? If you want to obey Jesus, he doesn't give you any other option but perfection. "be ye therefore perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect". You assume that others aren't doing what your doing, which is already a strike against you. The guy who this video is responding to did the same thing, made stupid assumptions.

  • @waltherchemnitz I will repeat: It is NOT QUANTITY BUT QUALITY We all have IMPERFECT Faith We all have IMPERFECT wroks That´s why GRACE, because of Jesus Christ, can make faith and works perfect for God If you die imperfect and as you said "no other option but perfection", then, as 1Cor 3:12-13 says,, you will go trou fire, what we Christians call purgatory So, Do you understand NOT quantity but quality? Did you read 1Cor 13,,, I quoted before?? Read it again Blesses
  • You don't understand the point, it's not making faith alive or dead etc. You need both at the same time. Martin's issue is that he tried to work his way to heaven, he felt he was not good enough all the time. That's not the point, the point is to do what God asks of you to the best of your ability. Abraham didn't get judged on if he believed God was there, he was judged and given gifts from God when he was gonna LISTEN to God and kill his son for him.Do works out of LOVE, not to get to heaven

  • Those who do not bear the fruits of good works are cut down and thrown into the fire. You must do them for that is why we have been created in Christ.

  • @StringPlunker How's that working out for you?

  • @waltherchemnitz Then you have not heard the law. I fear for your soul.

  • @StringPlunker

It is working out very well. How is bearing fruit working out for you?

  • No you can't be saved by your own works. Eph. 2:8-10, but faith will produce good works. "For by grace are you saved thru faith and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus UNTO GOOD WORKS which God has before ordained that we should walk in them." " Even so faith, if it has not works is dead being alone." James 2:17

  • You are getting caught in the trap of believing that men's ideas of religion mean something to God. We are still fallen and guess what folks, we have to work this out for ourselves. It may be comforting to think that someone else is going to save us, but what I have seen being around church goers for 45 years, and listening to all this intellectual crap makes me sick. This has absolutely nothing to do with God. Period.

  • romans ch;5 therefore since we have been justified by faith we have peace with GOD through our LORD JESUS CHRIST this is all apart from works

  • romans ch;4for if Abraham was justified byworks he has something to boast about, but not before GOD for the scripture says Abraham believed GOD and it was counted to him as righteousness now to the one who works his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due and to the one who does not work but believes in HIM who justifies the ungodly his faith is counted as righteous

  • Why did jesus die for us?

there's a lot of reasons more then just this one. We can't pick and choose but one of the reasons is this "He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls."

why did jesus go on the cross so we would die to sins and live for righteousness. Die to self and live for god.

  • First off I'm catholic. and I believe Salvation is not through faith alone. it sounds good. but this is not the case. the case is the preacher says this just to attract members that way he gets rich. okay well that's not living like Christ. Christ could careless about being rich. he cares about helping people. so practicing good works is the ultimate key to salvation. also by saying you're saved once is like a slap in the face to Christ. you have to continuously repent and be serious about it.

  • How are we Justifed???

Protestant= "You are justifed by FAITH ALONE"

God= James 2: "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and NOT BY FAITH ONLY."

    Best Regards

  • @mjmenjivar How about this other author, who wrote in his epistle to the hebrews, "without faith it is impossible to please God". God said that too, right? Have you considered that James seems to stand all alone there, by himself? Can that be right? Or have you misunderstood him?

Answer: You have misunderstood him. The issue isn't whether there should be works or not. The issue is that the works are ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS without faith.

  • @waltherchemnitz

God said EVERUTHING it is written in the Bible..

    You said:

"The issue is that the works are ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS without faith"

Yes, just like Faith is "ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS without" works.. agreed ?

So, I agree we are justifed by Faith... BUT NOT by faith "ALONE"... that`s Heresy against the VERY WORD OF GOD,, and the Teaching of JESUS HIMSLEF..

  • @mjmenjivar No. Faith alone is what we are justified by. In the book of John, Jesus said He is the only way to heaven. Saying that works somehow get you saved, or are on par with faith, is saying that Jesus only paid part of the price, and that we must pay the rest of the price for admission into heaven.

You are absolutely right in saying that faith bears fruit in a person's life, but works do not earn your way to heaven. They are merely evidence that you're a Christian.

  • @Interestingenough4

What if it is Jesus who tells you that WORKS are what can take you to heaven or hell ?

"Come and receive the kingdom that was prepared for you....When I was hungry, you gave me something to eat, and when I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink....Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me" Matt 25:34-40

This is Jesus speaking my friend. So, dont tell me "works" have nothing to do with our salvation.

  • @Interestingenough4

Do not mix the WORKS OF THE LAW, comdemned by Paul with CHARITY or LOVE. The WORKS that put God in debth as if God is paying you

Those works are comdemned by the Church and Paul. You should read the Christian council of Trent where the Church explains you better this issues

When we work in CHARITY we are doing what our Lord Jesus asked for and it is our UNITY WITH HIM, that can make those "works" perfect. Just like it is our UNITY WITH HIM that can make our Faith perfect

  • @Interestingenough4 faith is worthless without works, the one that missunderstood not James but the Bible is protestantism by choosing faith alone...

  • @waltherchemnitz Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Issac upon the altar? Was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by a different route? Faith is active with works, and faith is completed by works. A person is justified by works. A body without a spirit is dead, just like faith without works is dead. Read James 2:14-16. Of course we Catholics have faith. That is why we do works. Think about it.

  • @waltherchemnitz

The works God prepares for us to do ARE our response of faith.

  • @waltherchemnitz

You said: "The issue is that the works are ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS without faith"

I say: "The issue is that the faith is ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS without works"

So, Faith? Yes, but fatih "alone" ? goes against Jesus and Paul teachings

    Blesses

  • @waltherchemnitz by the contrary faith is worthless without works, the one that missunderstood not James but the Bible is protestantism by choosing faith alone...

  • Pastor Gary,

I would take it a step further. Although I dont pass judgment on any one person, I think we can determine what the requirements for salvation: Faith Alone in Christ. If a person's faith is anything else(even partially) then its not in Christ. It kind of reminds me of the Pharisees looking for something other than Jesus the Messiah. Of course they knew of his miracles. But they wanted more. He was good enough then and He is good enough now! You cant add to it.

  • Pastor Gary I knew there was something that bothered me about this video. You miss quoted the Council of Trent. I am sure you didn't do this on purpose but the Council didn't pit works against grace. The first Canon said the following "CANON I.-If any one saith, that man may be justified before God by his own works, whether done through the teaching of human nature, or that of the law, without the grace of God through Jesus Christ; let him be anathema." So works is by His grace.

  • Pastor Held, have you ever read Isaiah 5 about the man and his vineyard. I see a God who makes demands but yet it is impossible for man to perform the work God desires. In the NT I see a God who comes and dies on a cross as a sacrifice to merit grace so that man can now believe and do the work by His grace that He gives. Anyway, what do you think about the man and his vineyard. Why would Jesus do this to this vineyard?

  • @Buzzz46 Because Israel broke the covenant, and God had them sent into exile in Babylon. It's a prophecy concerning Israel's downfall due to their unfaithfulness.

The law says "do this and you shall live". Israel agreed as a nation of obey the covenant at Mt. Sinai. They failed. The Gospel says "believe this, it has been done". Jesus fulfills the law, takes the curse of the law FOR you, then his righteousness is reckoned, or imputed to you. It's a righteousness that cannot fail.

  • @Buzzz46 You are in Christ, and are wrapped in Christ's righteousness. It's a righteousness that can never fade or become imperfect. Therefore, you are a child of God, and the Father sees you in His son and says to you, "well done, thou good and faithful servant".

That's a better message than the law could bring you my friend. The spirit gives you Christ's life in exchange for your old one. There is no law that can stand against that.

  • so no matter what I do or don't do that righteousness will never fade or become imperfect?

  • @Buzzz46 How could it? Think about the passage from Paul that says "don't you know your body is a temple?" (1 Cor 6) The people at Corinth are mixed up in all sorts of sins, yet Paul reminds them their bodies ARE temples... Not were. Consider Phillipians 3:8 and following, "not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith."

It's from God. How could it be imperfect?

  • But right before that he says "Avoid immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the immoral person sins against his own body". Maybe Paul isn't talking to the ones who have already commited fornication and prositution after receiving Christ but to those who are being tempted by their fallen brothers and sisters.

  • My bosses at work do that all the time. Someone screws up and to stop the other ones from walking the plank and loosing their jobs they give a warning to everyone.

  • Have you ever read where Jesus said "Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven" or Paul when he says "For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive recompense for what has been done in the body, whether good or evil"

What are you doing with your body (tongue)? Are you telling them what Paul said: everyone will be paid according to their works?

  • @Buzzz46 are you a protestant?

  • Will what you say change depending whether or not I am or am not?

  • If you're a protestant, then I'm going to tell you flat out that you are agreeing with Rome when you read that passage of scripture and interpret it like you do. If you read the rest of that passage you find it says "many will say "didn't we do... didn't we do... In your name?" And Jesus says what?

"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." You'd think those were good works, but instead they earn hell.

    Why is that?

  • What if I was neither?

  • @Buzzz46 doesn't really matter. Eastern Orthodox, protestant, Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Weslyan, Charismatic... There's only two ways people will interpret the scriptures. They either interpret under the law, or the Gospel.

The people that Jesus says he will repudiate in the last day all said they did their good works, "in Jesus' name". The Apostles cast out demons in Jesus name, and worked many miracles in his name... Why then do these get cast out?

  • Maybe God sent some and others just went.Or maybe God sent some but they really didn't believe or have faith.I would think it is God's will that they have faith because works without faith is useless. But faith without works of love seem to be useless to because if someone really believed then they would respond. Like the parable of the fig tree.It had life but didn't produce fruit.

  • And the other story where they were gonna cut down the tree cause it didn't produce and the man said to let him cultivate it and care for it and if it still didn't produce fruit then it could be cut down.

  • They weren't good works. They weren't the Father's will. That is how I interpret it. How do you interpret it? That those who do those things will earn hell?

If it makes any difference to you my mom was a Catholic and my dad was a Lutheran.

  • @Buzzz46 I interpret it as it says, that there are false teachers (are you a teacher?) who are out to deceive you. The question you should be asking is "what is the will of the Father?" Jesus tells us this in John 6, "The work of God is this; Believe the one he has sent". God knows that anytime He works faith in someone, they cannot help but bear fruit. It's not a "both/and" situation because both are wrapped up in faith. That's why James can say "faith without works is dead" (more)

  • (more) because there's only one way to see a "faith", and what's more James tells us mere belief in God is not enough. It can't be that works drives the train because anyone could do good and stop sinning if they put their mind to it. No, it's by faith because only by faith would you believe your sinful condition is as dire as it really is, and only by faith could you believe that Jesus paid the price for you! As Paul reminds us in Romans 1:17.

  • walther, 2 questions....Is repenting a work? and Was James speaking the word of God?

  • I dont have my bible with me now. when jesus tells one of the churches in revalation to repent or he will remove their candlestick......what does this mean? These are people that believe, right? Also, in Revalation does it not say that we will be judged according to our works? by the way, are you saying that James' teachings are not the Word of God?

  • Do you believe that you have to confess Christ is the son of God? Do you believe that you have to repent of your sins? If you do....you are keeping some of Christ's commandments which are both works. The only place in the bible it says "by faith alone", in James it says " we are saved not by faith alone"

  • @leelittlejr Faith is not a work. Romans 4:5 However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness.

And in the next verse, he backs it up with scripture. "David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:7"Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. 8Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him."

  • Waltherchemnitz, I think ya are both in agreement that faith and belief are needed. That cancels out "works alone", that just leaves "Faith Alone" and "Faith and works".

    You say "Faith alone"

the other person is saying "Faith and Works".

Is it enough for a fig tree to have life and not produce fruit or leaves for shade. I tell you this, if it doesn't produce fruit it will be cut down and thrown in the fire.

  • @leelittlejr And while we're at it, since you guys love to pit James against Paul, James doesn't back his contention up with scripture, not does he? By the rules that you guys play by, Paul wins, because he can back his claim up with scripture. James doesn't.

What do you do about that? You're the one who does the same as James, making a claim with nothing to back it up. What do you do?

  • @waltherchemnitz

Don't be selective in your reading of Paul.

Romans "By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God,

who will repay everyone according to his works: eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works,

but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness.

  • Nice vid, my name is Greg lol..But I agree with this man lol

  • Interesting.

  • Matt,

You have FAR MORE than a "little" problem with Greg on those videos he has made. He can't even see the grace of God, never mind understand it enough to speak on it. I doubt he would understand Justification by Faith Alone.

However, we have to start SOMEWHERE, so I will be making some comments on his vids. But I am not going to be kind, I'm afraid. He doesn't even preach any kind of salvation by grace. It's all works and he needs to be told that he is under the curse of Galations 1:8.

  • Oh yeah! Where did you get that coffee mug??? lol I want one :o)

  • I understand that this was made to an individual, but if you removed all the names, this video still needed to be made. So many of us, depending on life experiences, don't know how to accept a gift or kindness without guilt, or feel as if they "owe Christ for what He did for me". Most of us know how to separate "works" from "acts of appreciation", some cant distinguish between them at times. Works is to reveal the Christ IN you to others & love/help one another in THIS life. GBU

  • I know God likes my pitiful attempts at being "Christ like" Christ is the one who does any good work that comes from me. I could not do it on my own. The things he has done through me is amazing. What a truly awsome God we have that blesses us with the works he shares with us by working through us.I do not believe thay are my works but his.

  • I really like Greg. He does have a heart for Christ. We are saved by faith alone. Only My belief in what Chriist did for me has me save. I am such a retched person and Christ knows this and yet he still loves me. This give me peace. Christ saves me every day, every moment. Even my "good works" pale to what Christ does in my life.

  • Hello,

Thank you for this GREAT video, however, I am intrigued - who is the Greg you are answering and what video did he make?

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Pastor GARY is my pastor and co-host of Radical Grace Radio. GREG is holyground4u, who is having a problem getting the relationship between Works and Faith. Pastor Gary will see your response, I'll see to that :)
