  • wat is a url

  • WOOHOO

  • Wow I'm such a noob. I didn't know this guy was a musician, I just thought he was the guy who produced Opeth's Blackwater Park.

  • yeah same here and now i love his work

  • tired of always listening to "blackest eyes" without a sound, even though thats not even possible?? HERE COMES THE SOLUTION! the song WITH sound! repeat: IT HAS SOUND!!!! F.A.Q: does tiz rly haev soundz? -yes. i can use my speakers nao? -yes, you can even use your headset. is it loud? -yes. how does it sound, me never heard before? -GREAT.
  • hahaha you sir are a comedic genius.

  • heard about PT for a long time never bothered to listen and I am now in love with this song.

  • Could you link me the pic at 3:21 ?

  • i love it. :)

  • I like this song a lot. Do they have any other songs with heavy parts like this one, because i haven't found any more? if anybody knows any other songs by these guys that are like this one, let me know. I'm a huge Opeth fan, so anything like them would be awesome.

  • Check out Anaethetize on Fear of a Blank Planet.

  • Way Out Of Here (Unedited...The music video's version sucks ass because they take out all the good parts) and Anesthetize off of Fear of a Blank Planet get pretty damn heavy.

Deadwing also has its heavy moments.

  • Wedding Nails... may Sound of Muzak too but i haven´t heard that a long time...

  • Check out Strip The Soul (the original 7 minute version), the heaviest song from the same album as Blackest Eyes (that being In Absentia). Marvelous band really.

  • get In Absentia - album. Superb stuff.

  • Listen to the album In Absentia, this and like 2 songs more are light, rest are heavier and dark.

  • Great band! I have all of their albums.

  • i love this band =]

  • seen them live bout 6 times. fav band ever <3

  • i'm discovering this band now!! i think i'll love this if it is like this ; progressive ,melodic and loud ( not like dream theater , than are great but it's just too much sometimes)

  • I feel the same way

  • very good song!!

  • some parts sound little like Opeth, but this is great:D

  • Steven Wilson (vocalist, guitarrist and genius behind PT) actually has been Opeth's producer sometimes. Opeth's vocalist sang on "Deadwing" by PT, so you're right: both bands have a little bit in common in many ways.

  • Are you implying that Opeth aren't good?

  • no, i didn't mean that.

i like Opeth myself, but sometimes i have problems expressing myself in english, so people dont understand my point:D

  • Oletteko Suomalainen?

  • mahdollisesti:D

  • lovee it

  • ej muk

  • all time favorite songs

  • holy shit! this band is awesome. Reminds me a little of rush. just discovered em. wow!

  • u know there is so many ppl living in america who have no idea whatsoever who this band is even though theyre the most ridiculously awesome band ever so if u live in the U.K. comment on here if they are unknown there also since they started from there

  • U Ross271290 if u like Nickleback u like bullcrap/gay/retarded/not good/or without any skill whatsoever pop music. Now ask yourself is that the music u like and or used to like????????

  • Your comments are so stupid. Please keep your jumbled thoughts in your closed off little mind. You and I like porcupine tree, he likes Nickelback; that doesn't make him gay or retarded, which may I add, are insults most people stop using when they turn 12.

  • PK48C u suck and know nothing about music plain n' simple

  • How can you say Rush is a bad band? They're all extremely talented musicians and Geddy Lee gets more ass than you ever will.

  • sorry guys, but angus is right, Rush isn't a good band. well, let me refraise that.. RUSH as musicians are fantastic, they have a great sound to them. Now enter Geddy lee.... come on guys, he sounds like he has his balls stuck in a vice! I love the music behind rush and I can get right into it when its on the radio... but once geddy opens his mouth its all over

  • Let's see you sing Geddy Lee and then we'll respect your opinion.

As it is, I doubt you could do what Geddy Lee does even if you had your balls stuck in a vice.

Oh, and Ian Gillan hit higher notes in his heyday than Geddy Lee ever did. Surely you don't think he's a bad vocalist? Since when is it a crime to have a good range?

  • el mejor grupo despues de Mike Patton's All Star, Radiohead y Pink Floyd...!!

  • steve wilson looks like geddy lee with straight hair =P

  • haha, i agree... like a younger version, practically.

  • Ok, you can dislike Rush, thats valid. But common!, Rush is one of the most important bands in scene!. Like it or not. Oh, and by the way, Porcupine Tree is awesome :D. Dont compare apples with oranges.

  • how is rush, a band who promotes music as art, worse than formula children like linkin park or nickelback?

you can dislike the sounds they produce, but you sell yourself short by refusing to see talent and passion where it exists.

  • hey nickelback USED to be good! =P

well i kinda like um, used to be a massive fan till the last couple of albums, guess all that fame got to their heads!

i hate it when bands care more about their fame than their fans ¬_¬

  • Agreed, they used to be a good rock band but now the are a crappy pop band. Just listen to thier new alblums. I want to listen to good rock not a pop song about some whore "With a million dollar body":-(

  • i bet you cant give 3 solid, decent reasons as to why Rush is the "worst thing to come out of rock and roll".

  • HA! Most laughable statement I've ever seen on YouTube.

  • i thought so too.. till i banged my head and woke up to reality! wake up! what do you listen to? beatles? what the fuck! next thing your saying dream theater sucks! fucking asshole!

  • im actually offended =P

    rush are amazing!!

    what you got against um??

  • You know, I doubt Porcupine Tree would even exist (at least in the form that it does now) if Rush hadn't ever existed.

  • haha they share a resemblance, but dont hate me for saying this because i also believe that rush is a god, but i perfer porcupine tree

  • agreed! rush is the burth of prog rock as we hear it today. i mean you can talk about other prog band (70's bands) like king crimson or camel, but it always has that classical\jazz form. rush is pure progression!

  • this is the first time ive ever listened to porcupine tree..

    OMFG this song is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

suprised i havent listened to um earlier as im into progressive stuff like DT, Opeth, Rush n Genesis etc XD

  • could you recommend me a cd from them to start?

  • I first listened to Deadwing and was hooked

  • Either Deadwing, Stupid Dream or Fear of a Blank Planet

But Deadwing is your best bet tbh

  • Well, I would say "In Absentia".

  • "In Absentia" Or "Deadwing". I'd go "In Absentia" though.

  • honestly, I think you should start with In Absentia

  • Get "In Absentia" - it's quite possibly one of the greatest albums of all time.

If I was stranded on an island and could only bring 5 albums to listen to, "In Absentia" would be one of them, without a doubt.

  • what would you listen to it with?

  • sdv6,

I'd build a cd player out of coconuts and palm trees. The professor made a radio on Gilligan's island, I think I could pull it off.

  • good man. your love for this band is true.

  • haha actually that radio was from the boat.. he just made a battery for it:P haha

  • i would say get as much as you can as fast as you can 'cause all their music is amazing ;]

  • porcupine tree. amazing band. they're really similar to dream theatre. another great band is Quidam. they're from poland. really amazing.

  • these people are sometimes very pink floydish, and sometimes something else...

  • Rush?

  • yes!

  • Im pretty sure that the genre is 'rock'

why does anything more than that even matter? all Im seeing is useless categorization...

  • Progressive Metal is such a great genre... because unlike many others it requires both the ability to play difficult rifts as well as write them, strange timed drums etc. In my opinion Dream Theater is the best progressive metal band out there (because of skill and creativity), Porcupine Tree definitely holds its own though as well as Opeth.

  • Ah, if only Porcupine Tree was Progressive Metal, and not Progressive Rock.

  • Like you I wouldn't say that Porcupine Tree is Progressive Metal. I've heard both Dream Theater and Opeth and they are Progressive Metal IMO.

  • Oh Opeth and DT are definitely metal. I'm just a bit of a genre nazi, and there's always this sort of ignorance about the difference between Prog Rock and Prog Metal. Tool for example; they're not Prog Metal, but everyone talks like they are.

  • Well, yes, I've seen comments compairing PT to Prog Metal bands. Maybe that's just an good exampel of how different people focus on the same music. I know that many PT fans like the "metal parts" in some of the PT songs. But for me PT (or SW)is relly different from other rock bands because of their skill in writing excellent meledious rock, like (some of my other favourits) Marillion or YES? But as an answer to your comment: Genre must be Prog Rock

  • necrophagist death spawn of possession gorod as well as codeon and steady potential all put shame to dream theatre

  • Hmm I'll have to check them out but well see O_o

  • Ok after checking those out... they suck sorry man... Dream Theater has more interesting aspects to every part of their songs and REAL vocals... sorry, but Death Metal is nothing compared to Prog Metal.

  • different strokes for different folks.

  • sorry bout being a dick about my response man, thanks for being mature about yours. Alright so yeah thanks for the suggestions but no thanks not for me.

  • Dont forget about the mars volta

they are really from another world

  • and btbam and three also tool

  • Opeth and Porcupine by now the best bands making music lately... i would say Opeth is a little better but anyway its really a different progressive style, so there is no much to compare.

    and porcupine are REALLY underrated.

  • don't forget dream theater.

  • everything is becoming so shallow and lame!

thank god that there are bands as PT/DT/OPETH!

    great bands!

  • no doubt. i started listening to opeth like 8 years ago blackwater park was outstanding...the discovered porcupine tree--whole nother realm, but oustanding music--you should check out Katatonia post '93 era. Brave Murder Day and on is wonderful...Last Fair Deal Gone Down :)

  • I´ll second the Katatonia bit! I started listening to Opeth an Katatonia at the same time, around 94. Brilliant music...

  • no doubt. i started listening to opeth like 8 years ago blackwater park was outstanding...then discovered porcupine tree--whole nother realm, but oustanding music--you should check out Katatonia post '93 era. Brave Murder Day and on is wonderful...Last Fair Deal Gone Down :)

  • They really are under rated.

  • Thats the best kind of rated!

  • opeth is lil too noisy tho, but it still rules.

  • very very nice song.

  • This band is extremely underrated. Maybe someday they get some well-deserved recognition.

  • the photos from the start look like they're from the hills have eyes. fucking beautiful song

  • "Blackest Eyes with Sound!!" --Lol

  • it's always better with sound, lol.

  • yes it is, yes it is.

  • Like we fucking care what you think...

i dont bitch about whose better, both has great songs and stupid songs, this songs rock ballz, and you cant' really say opeth looks like PT >_> hear the higher vocals, way different than the acoustic Knight like breaks from opeth....

^ Not that some1 gives a fuck what i think, but BOEIEN.

  • i listen to about a minute of opeth...that eas enough for me..PT is 100% better no question.....

  • 100% better for your taste. I listened to Opeth about a year...that wasn't enough for me...Opeth is 100% better no question...

That being said, I just got into PT a few days ago and they are fuckin awesome. Traces of Floyd in early years, Tool throughout, and Opeth in later years.

  • If you're a Porcupine Tree fan check out Opeth, like PT they're entire discography is gold.

  • That's true both Opeth and PT are great... I fuckin love them

  • the members of Opeth ad PT are all friends and big friends of eachother

  • I fucking love Porcupine Tree.

  • come on dude, if you're going to talk spanish i'm going to talk dutch, no one can understand us!

    so, in English: NICE SONG!!

  • they are the new RUSH

  • New RUSH ok bur a few old !!!

  • el flaco spineta se plancho el pelo xD

  • awesome shit

  • the college that im going to currently, one of the tutors is really close mates with Steve Wilson, apparently Porcupine Tree is still a sore subject tho

  • 3:32 sounds like the intro song of "friends"

  • lol it does

  • good

  • AWESOME!

  • Lol the intro to this song is so misleading.

  • great song

  • Porcupine Tree are bloody brilliant,

this is definitely one of my favs of them!

Very much remind me of Opeth,

which I have seen live and going to see them again in november =]

    you can't mock these bands!!!

  • Good luck with the show, though you won't need it! Saw Opeth 2 months ago in Perth, and Porcupine Tree 6 months ago in Melbourne, dragged a friend along to both of them and got him into these amazing bands.

  • of course i meant the people mixing up these bands.

    Those are the idiots!

    Opeth is brilliant!

  • Well I could see mixing up the bands because Porcupine Tree was really influenced on In Absentia by Opeth and on Porcupine Trees EP Futile Opeth had a song and I believe Porcupine Tree did some stuff on Black Water Park by Opeth.

  • True, very true even..

But still... what does it say at the top?

    And, know your bands ;)

  • lol.. depeche mode.. opeth...

To All Who Can't Read! ;)

    This is Porcupine Tree..

    Ultimate band!!

    opeth... bunch of idiots..

  • Depeche Mode is awesome!

  • ROCK ON!!!! Awesome!

  • One of the greatest bands in the history of man kind. Probably the best of our time. All hail Porcupine Tree!

  • can someone tell me what the [v] at top right hand corner stands for. I'm guessing it's either a channel or a tv music show? And does anyone know if this is available in the UK?

    top song too

  • It's for Channel [v] but yea i think only Australia and America get

  • I looooooooove it !!!

  • Wow...the link to Opeth is obvious..great to see how two of my fav bands can inspirate each other!!

  • huge!

  • nice

  • yeeeeaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ghost of perdition - opeth

  • awesome fucking song man! \m/

    Opeth=God!!!

  • uhhh this is porcupine tree, not opeth...

  • lol i know man. i was replying to danielsilva.

  • You've got the wrong God, dumbass.

    It's Porcupine Tree.

  • you do know this is porcupine tree dont you?

  • Great tune, love it

  • wake up jim. the only program i know is to be honest with yourself and not blame everything on god or enviorment

  • krieg, was that a fretless bass? if yes, even krieger!

  • bombastic song and even more bombastic video!

  • I got wiring loose inside my head

    Porcupine Tree = respect.

  • Epic. Never heard something like that.

  • wow. same

  • A kind of mix of rage against the machine and 70's music... surprising but really good !

  • one band i suggest is the mars volta.

i thought they were just some weird hip pop band or something until i actually listened to a few of their songs and found out they're actually really good.

  • the loud bits remind me of opeth so much

  • 1987 apparently. heard them today for the first time today i think i'm gonna like them from what i've heard so far ;)

  • Some of their earlier stuff was more experimental, but still worth a listen to. I bought all of their albums and love all of them except for On a Sunday for Life. I thought that was their weakest one. Overall, theyre one of my favorite artists :)

  • when did this band come out?

  • Come out of what?

  • what year?

  • Porcupine Tree formed in 1987

  • ok thanks.

  • the lisbon concert (7th october) was amazing! One of the best concerts I've ever seen!

  • all i said was they are just like rush

because they sound just like them, so calm down buddy

  • Well... they don't sound like Rush at all...

But yes, Porcupine Tree are awesome. Better progressive rock/metal is hard too find, off later ages at least. One group would be Tool. But no, Porcupine's just a litte bit sharper than Tool.

  • tool used to be good. up to and including lateralus. 10,000 days was terrible in my opinion. if you want to listen to a wicked progressive band, you should check out 3. they perform the best ear-cunnilingus ever.

  • the band's name is "3?"

  • 10,000 days was a decent album.......but yea....lateralus was much more creative.

  • Hey guys, I have a great idea, lets compare Porcupine Tree to bands that have nothing to do with this video or band.

  • your arguing over the internet

  • Your grammar is equivalent to that of a dyslexic third grader's.

  • AMEN

  • In a delightful bit of irony, that sentence contained a grammatical error.

  • did it?

  • these guys are awesome,

    they are just like rush.

  • these buckos are savage! iv come across a few cool bands tonite on this, if it wasnt for
