  • @pranasun7

Most of the shredders I know about sound nothing like Vai, so they can't be using his "colours" can they. All musicians are influenced by other people's music, but to state Vai has that much of an impact on the shredding scene is pretty far fetched.

  • i really need to have the drummer's trousers....

  • one of my favorite vids on the youtubes.

  • how old was he in this video?

  • i would like to see greg howe, brett garsed, guthrie govan and richie kotzen jam together

  • @EmotionalShredd The entire Universe Would Implode

  • i like his guitar works in NELSONS-After the rain album, gifted guitarist.

  • hahaha Super Impose......huh? ;) JK Great Vid

  • I discovered Brett and TJ about the time grunge killed the shredders... They did an album together where they used fretless guitars... amazing music... Amazing Guitarists

  • yes, thank you

  • who is the tapping man in the intro solo?

  • nun serve a un cassu !!!

  • so b5s, superimposing a chord over another one, this is some really crazy shit!

  • Brett could make a First Act guitar sound like a million bucks

  • so that kinda explains alot, a good portion of the jazz fusion sound seems to stem from the flat 5ths and flat 6ths of the bebop scale, thus the 'horn/legato' sound holdsworth and garsed get, a la bird and trane.

not sure when you'd see such an extended one chord vamp outside of the most simple 12 bar blues tunes though, but the concept of superimposing the subtonic and dominant modes over the tonic seems pretty cool, rather than just playing tonic stuff for the first 4 bars of a blues.

  • what the f*** just happened?!!! where am i??? i blacked out near the end during that insane solo

  • i will like to learn how use the cromatic scale so good :O

  • it seems to be that aussie guitarists come as either fukin terrible or fukin legendary lmao

  • @redhavok666 oh yeah they're in the degree of extremes haha have you heard of Frank gambale? hahha

  • @meowtrox yea thats wat i meant haha and tommy emmanuel

  • the only guys ive ever seen that are better than him are guthrie govan, shawn lane, and ron thal

  • This guy is amazing :)

  • this guy is already in my top 5 players list, love his style

  • GREAT MELODIC..

  • That is a beautiful left hand technique that any classical guitarist would be proud of

  • @TheGodlessGuitarist Yes, his left hand is great to watch, his fingers move so little from the fretboard.

  • whos brett garsed of the two guitarists in the beginning of te vid?

  • woot i got guitar school for 3 days with this guy in 2 months!! cant wait to jam with garsed :)

  • wtf he fingerpicks his sweeps wtf

  • @hankhannaford..so Jason Beckers 'Air' or Jeff Loomis 'Azure Haze' or Marty Friedmans 'Jewel' or Anything by friggin Uli Jon Roth lol (I could go on and on)..is void of any feel whatsoever huh? What a hapless antagonist you prove to be there Skippy

  • So you turned in to a jazz chromatic guy. I had a few years with hybrid modes/scales, you'll get bored quite quickly. Say you using a A minor 7 chord, therefore we can use a minor mode of the major scale, in this case we'll go for dorian, and play that as an arpeggio, but use the 2nd note of the A Pyrgian scale, an A sharp. You get a chromatic run when mixing this with the A dorian arpeggio. That's a long way of putting round, throw in some half tone notes, and hey, your a jazz chromatic guy.

  • @frazer1949 hmm a very blaze description of years it takes to develop a truly tasteful way of playing!

  • @frazer1949 dorian b2 out or melodic minor.. period.

  • Stop listening to Henderson and Gambale you fool that type of fusion is overdone ...got old so fast...with your ability your capable of better..thumbs down for your choice of musical direction ...Jazz limits you..Holdsworth , Connors and McLaughlin already did all thatto death .its has none of the dramatic punch or ''feel'' of epic neoclassical metal for instance..period

  • @nneevveerrmmoorree the words 'feel' and 'neoclassical metal' dont go together: More like 'emotionless' and 'harmonic minor'.

  • @nneevveerrmmoorree youre an idiot

  • eres lo maximo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW!!!

  • WHY THIS GUY IS NOT THE MOST POWERFULL, RICHEST AND EVERY ONE´S GOD ON EARTH?

  • @rudessdfdf he's a musician!

  • holymoly he rocks

  • Please, what's the name of the song being played at the clip's beginning?

  • Flat 5, Sharp 5, flat 9 , sharp 9 = Bebop/Jazz/Alternate scale

  • Anybody thinks he looks like Steve Coogan/Alan Partridge here ? :-)

  • man this guy rocks i would do anything to play with brett

  • wow excellet guitar work very clean

  • awesome phrasing!!!

  • please tell me whats the name of whole video lesson?

  • Brett Garsed - Rock Fusion

  • whats the mane of whole video lesson?

  • what albums are the clips from?

  • He should be invited to join G3 for 2010

  • @deepislandboy the hell with g3, gettin tired of this jokers! another g3 should be created with: garsed, greg howe and guthrie govan = G3!!!

  • @thom188 read my mind man

  • @RandomTask42

Dave Mustaine is good, in fact great..... but not THIS great.

  • dave mustaine sux :p

  • love the playing in this!! some killer riffs

  • wow, i love this guy

  • FFFFFFF why is this guy not better known?!

  • @jadey1928 the greatest players are sadly never known by enough. it took me a long time before i finally found out about shawn lane

  • @jadey1928 Because he played in the band Nelson. He really did.

  • yes he did. talk about scarred for life

  • @jadey1928 Because his stuff is kinda hard to digest for the average guitar music fans. The same goes true for Holdsworth, Al Di Meola, and other fusion greats.

  • @jadey1928 Maybe cause he's just too good XD

  • @jadey1928 hes known where real musicians are recognized!

  • would love to see a transcription of that lick at 2:31

  • I'm going to post mine later tonight after I get home from work...I stayed up till 4 am last night figuring this damn thing out! lol...stay tuned

  • oh boy helmerich has a huge nose :D

  • that was fucking mind blowing. lmao.. i thought it was dave mustaine for a bit.

  • as much as i love dave, he just can't do this kind of thing. (not that he wants to anyway)

  • I don't get how guitarists such as Brett Garsed are sooo underated. Especially in the fusion category, he's soooo damn good!!

  • the greatest guitar instructional video ever made...period!! Brett Garsed-Rock Fusion

  • shawn lane........power licks

  • FANTASTIC !

  • Just saw Brett play with his band last night in Melbourne. One of the best things I've ever heard in my life. I was just asking myself how he had come up with his technique and here's a video explaining it :)

  • This guy & T.J. Helmerich made a few tunes together. I had a few cd's (diff artists) back in '98 and they blew me away.

  • so sick!! i just threw up

  • its dave mustaine!!

  • HAHAHAHA!

  • Without the pretentious snarl!!!

  • dave wishes

  • Some of those licks sound like sweeps but he's playing them with hybrid picking... This is really impressive, but I've never heard of this guy!

  • Fine playing Mate.

  • very nice

  • that would sound terrible on anything other than guitar lol

  • did he go to stanford uni by any chance??

  • His name is T.J.Helmerich - killer tapper!!!!

  • who is that crazy tapper?

  • alepaan, you´re absolutely right. :)

  • He is not going to be invited to the G3, cause vai doesn't like to play with better players than him.

  • hahahahahaha. your a funny dude..

  • Comment removed

  • you´re right my friend!!!!!!!!!

    Vai doesn´t exist XD

  • @alepaan lol good point. He's in another league

  • @alepaan

And thats the truth.Satriani is more open.Vai do have a little ego problem.Garsed is way better.

  • @alepaan He did invite Andy TImmons though...

  • @alepaan

That's not true, he did play with Eric Johnson

  • @alepaan its a year old comment but you're sooo right haha

  • @alepaan hahahahha lol I agree with you. Brett is God

  • @alepaan

Well - Vai doesn' want to lose his guitar hero image. x)

  • @alepaan so what about john petrucci? He is waaay much better than steve vai

  • @alepaan Well, better is completely subjective.

  • @alepaan

    G3 for dummies anyway

  • @alepaan jajajajajaja!!! xD

  • @alepaan is really this? Steve Vai is very good, but I think he don`t thinked this.... I don`t know, excuse me if I don`t know about, I like people like petrucci, Greg Howe, Frank Gambale, Paul Gilbert, Neal Schon, Guthrie Govan, etc.... but I will like know if Steve vai say this... ok thx

  • @alepaan @alepaan is really this? Steve Vai is very good, but I think he don`t thinked this.... I don`t know, excuse me if I don`t know about, I like people like petrucci, Greg Howe, Frank Gambale, Paul Gilbert, Neal Schon, Guthrie Govan, etc.... but I will like know if Steve vai say this... ok thx

  • @alepaan not true - he's brought Eric Johnson a ple of times.

  • @alepaan do not say this...People around here are in competitions, always trying to find who is the best when all is just so relative. But Vai has nothing to prove at all, he is the creator of many things and today 90% of the "shredders" don't even notice that the style they play comes from his "colors". Now I agree that this guitar player is good,

  • @pranasun7

cont... If you want to disprove what I say, name me 5 shredders that you think sound a lot like Vai.

  • @alepaan Indeed

  • @alepaan But he plays with Satch.

  • Brett Garsed is one my favourite influences!

  • australian accent isn´t it?

  • can you please recompress this video with the correct frame rate

  • G-3 is calling!

  • the cromatic scale tj plays at the beginning is just... SICK!!!!! i'm gonna practice a lot for that xD!!! really useful when u are at home and want to have some fun or in a "duel" jam session :D impressive!!

  • my new favorite guitarist! holy shit!

  • check out the right hand technique at 5:25 --> .. it's like sweep picking only he does it with the pick + 3 extra fingers.. really amazing

  • It's called hybrid picking. Really interesting technique.

  • Garsed is totally insane!!! WTF? Unbelievable technique.

  • Rock Fusion is THE GREATEST guitar instructional video of all time!! Its such a tragedy that the Warner Bros. dickheads aren't releasing this on dvd.....

  • Very Cool, I have the complete video. Very Informative.

  • Garsed & Helmerich are great inspirational guitar players!

    Doug Rappoport

  • Please somebody let me know what the first song is called. I CANT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The one before he starts talking? That's their version of YYZ by Rush. They added that latin-style section in their interpretation.

  • who is the other guy on the guitar besides Brett?

  • t.j. helmerich

  • Holy Jesus Jumping Motherfucker...

  • this is so fun to play

  • man, t.j's thing is nuts, especially at 00:20

  • If you have the booklet and can send it to me I'd be very grateful. Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you an e-mail address. Thanks.

  • like a bb king kind of run

  • bb king

  • what video is this from?

  • Rock Fusion, it's an instructional video of him

  • does anyone know the song he is playing in the intro of the video?

  • I think they're improvising the solos over the song Exempt (I think!)

  • truly one of the best

  • Great Guitarist, Great tone, Humble mate totally package Musicianship!!!Rock on Brett!

  • forgot to say: Garsed is marvelous, and also Holdsworth...but it´s obvius

  • Cheers!

and don't forget frank gambale! =]

  • Of course...and Greg Howe, Shawn Lane, Jan Cyrka, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Andy Timmons, Vernon Reid, Stanley Jordan...and over and over...even many musicians we never will know about...I mean, all that people making music, you can like them or not, but it´s not a competition or a comparation...you better try to make your thing, don´t lose time talking about who is better than who...peace!!

  • Allan holdsworth, steve topping ! ;)

  • very well said...but you know...there are so many stupid children in the youtube thing who think about guitar music as it was a sport competition...well, good for them, you must be sad cause they will never understand what music is about...let them goig up and down with their empty scales in their rooms, hahaha

  • The truth!! Its all about shredding to them, and who is faster, they will learn someday, they think sweep picking is totally shredding lol not!!

  • Sure! Garsed and people like him doesn´t play speed as it was a race...It´s just a feelin´ thing, full taste and emotion...In other words, it´s a nonsense if you think that two musicians are the same thing if they play the same thousand motes per minute...

  • Great Point!!

  • god damn that's funny, the guy who said Holdsworth is way better! I have met Brett and hung out a bit with him and Man he would be laughing at that so hard! It's not a competition in case you didn't notice. It's just music.

  • this guy should do another OTV project with Virgil Donati he's SOOOO underrated...

  • wow i just think he did a Cream riff

  • That's interesting, how he uses hybrid picking to sweep pick.

  • Brett Garsed is brilliant...his CD "Big Sky" is absolutely fantastic from start to finish, with not only great guitar playing, but amazing songs aswell...

  • Thanx!

    Cool Lesson,

I ve never hear Bretts Name before..

    Cool Sound...Nice Lines ....

  • brett is so humble

  • FOCK U

  • This guy is amazing!

  • Can someone tell me who the guy is doing the two hand tapping? That 2 hand chromatic run is very cool btw.

  • That was T J Helmerich.

  • The two lp's they did together, Quid Pro Quo and Exempt are no longer sold but you can find them on ebay. Usually kind of expensive (30 dollars) but well worth it. Truly amazing instrumental cd's that are very melodic.

  • He's not much of a teacher

  • OLLY HALSALL is the guy that started the legato craze.

  • what band is that?

  • allan is allan and brett is brett allan doesnt sound like brett and brett doesnt sound like allan - i like it that way and thank god too i remember a time when everyone sounded like eddie or yngwie

  • no one really sounds like eddie...everyone sounds like yngwie, especially joe stump.

  • In response to vainstan's comment:

Brett is a great player. But Allan Holdsworth, well he's in a complete different class; he pioneered this style of playing. You have heared of " The Holdsworthian school of playing" used as an expression

haven't you? Allan is a true innovator and rare individule. Brett is certainly a talent, but must be said that Allan Holdsworth is an icon. :)

  • @guitarran I love Garsed as his playing is 100% improvisation with the added bonus of an "accessible" harmonic sense as opposed to Holdsworth ,who is a legend but his tonality is too sophisticated for my "green" ears!!

  • garsed rules man !! ... call me crazy or whatever.. i actually prefer his playin to holdsworth's !! .. not sayin holdsworth is bad... just sayin garsed is that good ! :D

  • holdsworth is way better with chord melody style.

  • well, 'better' is a meaningless word obviously!
