@compdude100 There were several reasons. Among them: PA's purchase of National Airlines, buying too many different types of aircraft (747SPs, DC-10s, and L1011s), trying to figure out how to do business with deregulation, and also the 1982 recession.
@compdude100 some people build businesses or Assets to sell them to other businesses, in Pan Am's case though I think they wanted cash and selling Asian routes allowed them to stay in business.
But I can't watch your video "Worl'ds Best Pan Am 747 Video" in germany since a view month because of the content from Sony Music Entertainment. :(((((
Is it possible to reupload this video, or can you tell me the title of the music?
This happend when I was 20 yrs old. I would've LOVED to have been on this flight! Airlines nowadays pale in comparison to Pan Am ! I wish somebody would resurrect this airline. It was a true symbol of America that the world misses to this day !!
What a wonderful collection of beautiful memories! Only two months prior I had flown PAA from LAX to NRT and HKG. Never knowing it would be my last crossing on Pan American. The air to air shots at SFO are spectacular. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
I didn't realise that the 1985 Pan Am livery no longer used the blue cheatline. The Eurowhite scheme that Pan Am is using in 1985 is actually many years ahead of its time! The Eurowhite scheme became really popular somewhere around the late 1990s.
This brings back a flood of memories! At the time I was working for United Airlines (Sales Rep., Fisherman's Wharf) and the Pan Am Clipper story was quite big. Even though PA was the "competition," there was this feeling of air-travel history which transcended any of those thoughts. It's great to see this video after all these years - beautiful scenes over the Bay. I left UA in 1991 and was saddened when Pan Am ceased operations around that same time. What an incredible history!
The friendly skies get uglier, I came over in 86'. The not so friendly skies show signs of history repeats itself. Its like writings on the wall. I missed the Blue Meat Ball, I will not miss the ugly skies if Glen Tilton flies it to the ground. It will be a pity. Perhaps Continental may save its soul.
Yeah, I miss my airline and my Mom's. Both her and I worked for PanAm World Airways.. Now, that I have lefted United.. It has been some great years for me.... 20 plus years combined.... I will miss PanAm World and United Airlines
Hi sparkingwave thank you very much for sharing this video with us. Where did you find this? Can you find more? FYI Clipper Sparking Wave tale number n741PA was in service from 2/1970 to 12/1991 but was Clipper Kit Carson in the begining and was renamed in the 1980s I use to work quite often on this plane. What a fun and exciting company to work for. I still can not belive they are gone. I would do anything to have that life style back! thanks again.
This video was a bonus that came along with a Pan Am poster I had bought on ebay. It was a much longer documentary with lots of speeches by Pan Am brass and other guests, and it wasn't very well made. I took the best parts and edited it down and added the music. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm also on the lookout for other PA 747 videos to add on here.
Its that a 747-100 or -200?
