  • dude wtf were you thinking putting that distortion pedal in front of such a classic amp? are you on drugs?

  • that is one UGLY looking guitar

  • David fails every time.

  • A vintage amp with vintage tone? Unheard of...

  • I have to chime in on this. If you distort sound far enough, any discernable tone would be become noise. Buy a cheap solid state amp that is five decades newer, throw that pedal in the chain and melt every metal head's face off with two note chords and the chromatic scale. Or just distort that amp's tone all the fucking way to metal hell. Bang your head fool. Hard. Really hard. Please.

  • idk bout THAT much distortion, but id put a nice little crunch on this amp with the boss blues driver or a ds-1. just for some classic rock drive

  • Oh, man, it's a crime to put a distortion pedal in front of such amp...

  • @shymisss +10 -- especially such a horrible pedal.

  • A tear drops from my eye as the horrible aluminum foil sounding pedal is engaged

  • @musicswatitsallabout If it's too loud, you're too old ;)

  • ITS an amp ,its a pedal and a guitar who cares if it works play it

  • I think he's just trying to make the point that this amp can kick ass with whatever sound you want from it. He's just showing that it can handle heavier stuff, and sounds good with it.

  • 6:02 is when i stopped listening.

  • This sounds really bad lol... the guitar, pedal, and amp are all for different styles and don't belong together lol. In fact putting the Metal Zone with that amp and guitar makes me laugh,.

  • as an owner of two falcons, I can honestly say that if you put a boss metal zone in front of that amp, you're a total douchebag !!!!

  • All the haters are faggots. You obviously have fun and enjoy doing what you're doing, and they can't take that one person is happy around here.

  • You talk way too much. .way too much.

  • MY EARS!!! The distortion is horrible.

  • Sorry man but your reviewa are not soo good as many others.......but its better than nothing(= but i wanted to hear more clean souns, i mean i wanted to hear the amp and no pedal!

  • It was a nice twist putting the Metal Zone on the old amp. Fuck what these haters have to say. If they don't like it, they don't have to watch it. Fuckin people

  • @slimmetalpickin yeah i really liked the clean and metal tone!

People need to turn their volumes up more and keep the neighbours awake, that's where the fun starts to me!

  • If he thinks this amp doesn't sound good without the pedal this man has lost all credibility in my eyes.

  • Would everyone leave David alone, Hes just making a living like the rest of us! If you learn guitar...you can get a job like His, maybe. By the way, I bought a Gibson GA 17 rvt in 1965, had to replace the caps, but the tubes are still good...I would not trade that amp for anything! And why would you think a Fender wouldnt work whith a Gibson amp?...too bad Gibson doesnt make amps any more, they were outstanding...If you can find one...poppa

  • i hate the metal zone pedal, i love the death metal though, and if you need that much distortion through a tube amp, u don't need a tube amp

  • 93!

This is an excellent demo of this amp! Using the Metal Zone was a great aspect of this video. You would be quite surprised at the great tones you can get using modern pedals with "vintage" amps! Damn good video!

  • why oh why??? tube + digital distortion = shit

  • @purefernandes Metal Zone is not Digital. I mean is not the best but is an analog distortion pedal. Just FYI.

  • @purefernandes Not always true, but the metal zone is a pretty bad pedal.

  • I have a guitar just like that splatter strat!

  • Suggestion:

If you review an amp...demo the AMP. I would have liked to know where you had the volume and tone controls throughout. Crank the amp to show us how it distorts at different volumes. If you want to demo a pedal on a vintage amp, use something appropriate to the amp like a low gain pedal or treble booster.

  • This guy is lovable..... he is completely bald also...

  • i got the same model a couple of years earlier, but i would never play this great

amp with metal zone terrible distroyortion

  • Nice playing.

    But it's a Gibson amp, why don't you use a Gibson guiatr ? ^^

I love the clean tone of this amp, but with the metal zone,..... it's horrible.

  • @gueupeu that;s cause the metalzone is horrible though right?:P

  • what the hell... this guy sounds like officer barbrady!

  • very good man, above all with distortion

  • are you from Ohio ?

  • man u have good gears, and at your age u play like a 15 year old boy!u dont have feeling,u play dirty and rusty, learn to play man the guitar!!!

  • It´s got a built-in handle!! :D

  • This guy is so happy..

I mean, what's the big deal?

  • @BugrahanGedikGuitar

    one word... Acid. xD

  • lol he spends his days playing with guitars and amps more expensive than the sum of his internal organs. every guitarist's dream.

i'd be orgasmic in his place.

  • @BugrahanGedikGuitar dude hes so happy cuz his guitar sounds buttery!!!!!!

  • @BugrahanGedikGuitar i would be happy to with that gear :D

  • I've got one from the 50's handed down from my dad (R.I.P.) It's an original tweed version.

He used it with his steel guitars and it sounded really clean.

I've had it now for over 16 years playing blues/rock & country with Strats, Les' and an Epi Casino and it 'breaks out' really awesome.

I've never heard one used in this manner though!

  • I think it might sound a bit better with a closed-back. Pretty neat anyway.

  • this guy fuckin sucks... playin blues shit on a metal zone. go back to georgia, hick shit!

  • i've never liked this guy, he always makes me wanna punch somebody... but a metal zone to a 60's falcon... that's a rape

  • ... THE FUCK? Nobody who uses this amp is going to put a fucking Metal Zone infront of it. You fail, David. Miserably.

  • eheh XD right!

  • @BlitzkriegATX what the fuck are you saying. he uses the pedals he wanna use

  • @BlitzkriegATX people can use any equipment they want, maybe u dont like it or think its the best combo... but then again who the fuck cares about you on youtube :)

  • @BlitzkriegATX Haha thats true..

  • @BlitzkriegATX why?

  • @BlitzkriegATX :) I use this amp and a metal zone. LOL It gets a warmer sound than my marshall.

  • @BlitzkriegATX can you imagine both owning a time machine and this metal zone, and go to the 50s find a music shop, plug this metal distortion into an amp with a guitar annd then make people think you are a demon, crazy wouldn't be?

  • @BlitzkriegATX the new metal zone is actually versatile. try it and you'll be surprised.

  • @BlitzkriegATX

Agreed, ridiculous. These guys are always out of touch. . which is why I typically skip their videos. . and the talking you have to listen too from this guy. . we can figure the amp out if we want it. No way we need to hear all your details like we are idiots who cannot figure stuff out on our own. Just play the thing naturally so the audience can hear it and leave the chit chat alone.

  • @BlitzkriegATX

    ROFL, So true

  • wow what is that guitar!!!?!?!?!?!

  • Ugly as shit, that's what.

  • Its like a Spin Art Strat thing. A local dealer in my town has on that is different colored ( I think its kinda pastel), and I dig it for its "psychedelic factor"

  • @chilldudes123

A fender stratocaster, splatter pattern, I have a blue color.

  • When the fuck is using a Boss anything (especially a metal zone) to demo a 60's vintage tube amp? Then you jacking off for like 5 minutes destroying the tone of the amp with the metal zone didn't need to happen. Please invest in a decent distortion box that people who actually would play this amp might use. Be less retarded.

  • @scottiewazhere9407

At this sound, each seeks the likes. Respect what others do, but you do not like. It is as if someone makes a Cuba Libre with a large malt whiskey. If you like ...

  • I will repeat myself. Be less retarded. I will respect those where respect is deserved. Smalls here needs to run back to the sandlot.

  • @scottiewazhere9407

Let's see companion, if only you can access money to an amp like that and what you want to play is thrash-metal, the metal zone is a very good solution.

    Happy year entry

  • That´s the worst pedal ever made, amp sounds very good indeed.

  • The tremolo on these is sweet! Too bad yours isn't working. I have one of these amps but it died on me, gotta go get it fixed!!

  • lol at 5:12 it sounds like the beginning of Jimi Hendrix little wing

  • [] ٌ إ] ٌ]ٌ]ٌ]ٌ]ٌيييي

  • lol fender with gibson?

  • Decent sound, horrible paint job/color scheme on that Strat. Its not an Ibanez

  • Haha, a strat with a Boss Metal Zone, the rig of the average 13 year old!

  • hahah thats pretty much the truth! when i first started at 13 it was squier strat, 10w crate amp. and a boss ds-1 which my mom thought I needed to make the guitar work haha

  • Yea i just use my amps tube distortion now with a tube screamer with my peavey, much nicer tones with no tone rob from pedals, well only a crybaby for solo and such. its not a bad beginner pedal, but i cant stand the tone, way to digital

  • Hah i use a gibson sg with a metal zone

  • haha, sg and mt-2 best combination ever,

  • I like the od3 with an sg myself.

  • od3 has thick tone, and sg also has thick tone. so you are using super thick tone haha, what kind of music do you play dude?

  • my bad! i wrote od3 instead of sd1. i play alt rock/surf by the way

  • Goddamn... this is a really beautiful sounding vintage unit and he just had to put a freakin Boss Metal Zone in front of it. :D Sounded like crap. :DDD

Before the metal zone sounded beautiful, though. :)

  • that reminds me of that strat that george harrison played

  • tube amp/mexican made strat,not bad

i like the clean sound with a little reverb

  • this guy is such a douche

  • how

  • Hahaha, its weird to hear that tone from a old gibson amp.

  • what a fool for putting a metal zone pedal on a vintage amp, he should crank that thing and let the natural distorted tone come threw

  • i know!

  • that pedal is awsome if you can get a good sound out of it that guy did not

  • really,really vintage!

  • needs more bass and mids

  • moo

  • He didn't dial in a good tone with the pedal =( it sounds horrid!

  • sounds like you are playing in a toilet.hollow sounding bro.

  • ! good review and amp dude!

  • more BASS

  • looks like an ibanez js without the surfer

  • lol yeah :P

  • woah woah woah, what was he playing here? 5:13 to like 5:38 can someone help me out, maybe respond if u kno the tabs or something, thanks

  • improv

  • would i have the same result with an Ibanez TS-9

  • tube screamers dont have much gain

  • They are just meant as tube amp boosters

  • exactly, the guy i was responding to wanted to use one in front of a clean amp for heavier stuff, and OD's/boosters dont have much gain

  • man this dude is like "bla bla bla bla bla..." stfu man and just show us the merchandise.

  • dude that mt 2 is sweet i might get it sometime

  • i swear i have almost that exact same guitar 2003 splatter mim strat

  • WOW sounds awesome I want one haha.

  • this amp does not need a distortion pedal to sing just a good od pedal and some good eq.that metal zone pedal makes this amp sound thin and cheap.

  • He always says " dot com " like he´s forgetting it or something.

  • That's the original footswitch.

Man, I wish you'd learn how to speak better. Your reviews would be so much better if you'd just finish your sentences and stop using "uh" all the time.

And WOW! Dude... A "Built in handle!" How novel. I didn't think they issued those from the factory until the 70s.

    *sigh*

  • i have that pedal and was wondering what would be best setting for a van halen-ish sound

  • if you want a good van halen sound, consider buying the md-2 mega distortion from boss, youll get a better van halen sound from that

  • whats the retail on a boss mt-2

  • I paid 99 for mine, but you can get em on musiciansfriendDOTcom for about 88

  • Picked up one at a local pawn shop for about $40.00 -still in the original box with instructions. If you are like me and want to try several pedals, but limited on cash shop around for good deals. Pawn shops, ebay, craigslist. I own several and never pay more than about 60 bucks for one. - Plus you buy one that sounds like crap you are not out the full price.

  • $139

  • the les paul in the back has a wierd pickup

  • It's not a Les Paul,it's a Gibson Nighthawk.

  • you a fag

  • cool i dind't even know gibson made amps

  • david is the man when it comes to youtube demo,s.

  • metal zOne and a falcon? just crank the thing up and get some natrual harmonics

  • Wouldn't sound the same; not all distortion is equal.

I think metal distortion soaks the power tubes way more when you're getting it from the amp, but I wouldn't really know. I think most overdriven sound starts from pre-amp soak.

  • i prefer the metal core. more bass and body to it. this is just sounds too tinny to me. keep up the great reviews as well

  • nice super strat

  • I had one of these in the '60's when I was in high school and was happy to find one a few years ago on for about $200. Mine doesn't seem to like effects boxes...

The foot pedal on the one in the video looks to be original.

  • This is awesome. A. I never knew Gibson use to make Amps. B. I like that guitar ALOT. C. I'll never get over how awesome ht MT-2 is. It's like speed for a guitar.

  • David, I would like to see a demo of the Boss RC_50 loop station. Rock on good people.

  • great stuff dave! loving your work!

  • I ..have to have that strat ....is it for sale ....it looks like your at a guitar shop..

  • be carefull around the back of the amp. those old amps with the exposed transformer wiring can be deadly ..you might want to mention that in the comments or something.

  • How does he make his guitars sustain for so long without any pedals...

  • Skill.

  • whats the guitar in the back next to the gibson nighthawk

  • thats a Gretsch corvette in the background next to the nitehawk - we have a review of that guitar also - check it out

    rock on!

    DT

  • Sounds just like my classic 30

  • anyone know what he is playin at 6:04???

  • I think its a riff he made up, but it sounds pretty sick. I wanna learn how to do it

  • sounds like cememtary gates alittle

or just something he made up

  • i doubt hemde it up cuz it souds sooo fammilier, like iv'e herd it before somwehere

  • david at his best!

no wait.... he can do this.... AND MORE!!

    keep rockin

  • Is that a Fender twin I see in the back? You should review one. I have a Twin and I love it.

  • fender twins rock.

  • Does Fender still make the Splatter Strats?

  • Not online, probably in a shop somewhere they have them, seems pretty Unique. very actually.

  • What is the style that he's doing at 6:43? I was gonna try to learn it.

  • its called tapping , guitar world magazine last month , had a dvd that came with the magazine , it had a chapter on it that wasnt bad . check out there website

  • Super

    Weeping

    Expensive

    Excellent

    Tone

  • Wow, that thing MUST be expensive. I prefer the amps with built-in distortion, but it still looks like a nice amp. Beautiful guitar by the way!

  • i dont like amp distortion lol

  • Yea a lot of it (on SS amps) sounds either too digital or too muddy, if ya know what I mean. But for tube amps, I find that distortion pedals(or other effect pedals) mess the tone up, so I like to just have different channels for distortion.

I'll admit, the amp in this video sounded nice with a pedal, but that doesn't always seem to be the case. I guess it all boils down to personal taste really.

  • what it is is my clean tone has to be really bright and clear, and when to have an amp with distortion and i swich my dist sounds tinny and shitty, i like a the pedals for seperate EQ

  • great, but SSS strats arent really that great for metal sounds.

  • woo second comment you guys rock

  • pretty guitar!!!!!!
