This is a low gain, single-channel amp that gives very little distortion even at full volume (I know from experience). Using a pedal with this will be no different than using a pedal with any other brand of amp that lacks serious gain. So what if a pedal is used with a vintage amp? As long as a good tone is achieved, it doesn't matter. I doubt most of the comments here are from people who've ever seen one, let alone played one (let alone gigged with it).
I have to chime in on this. If you distort sound far enough, any discernable tone would be become noise. Buy a cheap solid state amp that is five decades newer, throw that pedal in the chain and melt every metal head's face off with two note chords and the chromatic scale. Or just distort that amp's tone all the fucking way to metal hell. Bang your head fool. Hard. Really hard. Please.
I think he's just trying to make the point that this amp can kick ass with whatever sound you want from it. He's just showing that it can handle heavier stuff, and sounds good with it.
This sounds really bad lol... the guitar, pedal, and amp are all for different styles and don't belong together lol. In fact putting the Metal Zone with that amp and guitar makes me laugh,.
Sorry man but your reviewa are not soo good as many others.......but its better than nothing(= but i wanted to hear more clean souns, i mean i wanted to hear the amp and no pedal!
It was a nice twist putting the Metal Zone on the old amp. Fuck what these haters have to say. If they don't like it, they don't have to watch it. Fuckin people
Would everyone leave David alone, Hes just making a living like the rest of us! If you learn guitar...you can get a job like His, maybe. By the way, I bought a Gibson GA 17 rvt in 1965, had to replace the caps, but the tubes are still good...I would not trade that amp for anything! And why would you think a Fender wouldnt work whith a Gibson amp?...too bad Gibson doesnt make amps any more, they were outstanding...If you can find one...poppa
This is an excellent demo of this amp! Using the Metal Zone was a great aspect of this video. You would be quite surprised at the great tones you can get using modern pedals with "vintage" amps! Damn good video!
If you review an amp...demo the AMP. I would have liked to know where you had the volume and tone controls throughout. Crank the amp to show us how it distorts at different volumes. If you want to demo a pedal on a vintage amp, use something appropriate to the amp like a low gain pedal or treble booster.
@BlitzkriegATX people can use any equipment they want, maybe u dont like it or think its the best combo... but then again who the fuck cares about you on youtube :)
@BlitzkriegATX can you imagine both owning a time machine and this metal zone, and go to the 50s find a music shop, plug this metal distortion into an amp with a guitar annd then make people think you are a demon, crazy wouldn't be?
Agreed, ridiculous. These guys are always out of touch. . which is why I typically skip their videos. . and the talking you have to listen too from this guy. . we can figure the amp out if we want it. No way we need to hear all your details like we are idiots who cannot figure stuff out on our own. Just play the thing naturally so the audience can hear it and leave the chit chat alone.
Its like a Spin Art Strat thing. A local dealer in my town has on that is different colored ( I think its kinda pastel), and I dig it for its "psychedelic factor"
When the fuck is using a Boss anything (especially a metal zone) to demo a 60's vintage tube amp? Then you jacking off for like 5 minutes destroying the tone of the amp with the metal zone didn't need to happen. Please invest in a decent distortion box that people who actually would play this amp might use. Be less retarded.
At this sound, each seeks the likes. Respect what others do, but you do not like. It is as if someone makes a Cuba Libre with a large malt whiskey. If you like ...
Let's see companion, if only you can access money to an amp like that and what you want to play is thrash-metal, the metal zone is a very good solution.
hahah thats pretty much the truth! when i first started at 13 it was squier strat, 10w crate amp. and a boss ds-1 which my mom thought I needed to make the guitar work haha
Yea i just use my amps tube distortion now with a tube screamer with my peavey, much nicer tones with no tone rob from pedals, well only a crybaby for solo and such. its not a bad beginner pedal, but i cant stand the tone, way to digital
Goddamn... this is a really beautiful sounding vintage unit and he just had to put a freakin Boss Metal Zone in front of it. :D Sounded like crap. :DDD
Before the metal zone sounded beautiful, though. :)
Man, I wish you'd learn how to speak better. Your reviews would be so much better if you'd just finish your sentences and stop using "uh" all the time.
And WOW! Dude... A "Built in handle!" How novel. I didn't think they issued those from the factory until the 70s.
Picked up one at a local pawn shop for about $40.00 -still in the original box with instructions. If you are like me and want to try several pedals, but limited on cash shop around for good deals. Pawn shops, ebay, craigslist. I own several and never pay more than about 60 bucks for one. - Plus you buy one that sounds like crap you are not out the full price.
Wouldn't sound the same; not all distortion is equal.
I think metal distortion soaks the power tubes way more when you're getting it from the amp, but I wouldn't really know. I think most overdriven sound starts from pre-amp soak.

I've got one from the 50's handed down from my dad (R.I.P.) It's an original tweed version.
He used it with his steel guitars and it sounded really clean.

I've never heard one used in this manner though!
