It does have enough power. All you have to do (This only works with the STOCK tail rotor mount) is very gently, using a Swiss Army Knife or similar, push the tail rotor into the housing a bit more. If the helicopter spins in the other direction, push it out a bit, and visa versa.
How did you handle the problem of needing to reverse the direction of rotation of the motor? I have a good fealing thats the reason you can't get suffient power. Some electric motors do perform better in one direction than another, this is because of contact lead.
i stripped mine down like this but put a stick on the front and attached the battery to the end of it so it goes faster coz ders more weight transfered to the front
You cant fly it with out the body or a model helicopter body. It needs even support. Mine did the same thing when i took the body off. but after I put a apache model body on, it flew fine again.
pretty good.. but it kinda suck to remove the body... cause there's nothing to balance the base ... so it spinned out of control even if it trimmed well
What a great idea. It may be side loads that are keeping the RPMs down. On the discussion groups they talk about installing micro sized ball bearings. I'm sure that would help. Also consider using a small O-Ring instead of the rubber band.
Cool- you need a really small notched belt, like a miniature version of a timing belt on a car. then you could lose some of the tension. Its probably still producing more friction than the gear drive though. Also, it'd be hard to find a notched belt that small, lol
That indeed is silent but how do you reverse the motor's rotation? With a pully, the transmission will be the other way round than with gears right? So doesn't the main blade spin the wrong way round?
that is called a flight? WTF ,...

if you still use this then inverting the frame might help, i've heard running the motor backward burns it out.
connect the motor as it was,
slide off the bit on the bottom of the shaft,
slide the shaft on blades out,
take of your pully,
put collar back on shaft,
shaft back in from the bottom,
add pully at what was the top of the frame,
pop out tail rotate by 90deg.
inverting the frame changes direction, with your pully changing the direction back.

Nice mod!. What exactly does this do? Im not tryin to be an ass either im just just curios.

tip for u mate (u probs already know this) try changeing the gear ratio so that you can gain back the power lost

hey maybe you must get a smaller ring on the rubber band
then it must have more power

looked kinda funny with just the motor and not the base of the chopper

Use a fine diameter O-Ring instead of a rubber band.
howitsdun 4 years ago 2
Did you have to re-wire the motor to the oposite for the main rotor to spin in the correct direction?
JRD34 4 years ago
Try a smaller spur gear or go all out and upgrade the main motor to a 7mm and get a 90mAh LiPo.

how do i trim it so i dont just go around in circles

use the little buttons below the steering stick (right stick) and press right and left accordingly.

Actually.. you can take the battery, flip it horizontal and it glues nicely the backside of the IR reciever.
The wide space of the batter then makes a good area to glue Runners onto it and the little blinky light can be glued to the front of the battery.
I did the above to mine and it flies better than before. Reduced weight = more time becuase less power is needed to lift it.

I did the same, but it doesn`t work. it just go around and crashes...:( but it was fun to have so long i had it.

some of the spinning might be because the fin normally under the rear rotor has been ripped off. it could just be 2 light

that was not nice to destdroy the helicopter
Cssna 4 years ago
looks like its getting to much torque now
as its spins like mad
the tail rotor has to work in accordance to the main prop
it has to have enough power to counteract the
rotation torque
it looks a interesting mod though
good job

what about twisting the belt?
You wouldn't even then need to invert the rotation direction.
This would probably avoid some of the loss of tension.

okay, youv'e proved it's silent...but lets see some more shots of it flying?
luke559933 5 years ago
This is still an experiment.
The power to fly doesn't suffice in the current state.
The power loss by the tension of the belt is large.
It slips when the tension is weak.
I think that the introduction of the exchange for a stronger motor or the timing belt
is necessary.
