Health care was cheaper when the government was less involved in the health care system. In Santa Monica hospital in 1952 it would have cost $244(in todays dollars) to have a baby without all of this government interference in the health care market.

People always think having the government force everyone to have health insurance means they will get access to health care, the NHS in britain recently refused care for someone who "looked" like a drug junkie but was actually part of a punk band. Look him up, his name was Peter Williamson and he died of swine flu because NHS refused care when he asked for it. He's not the only one that has been refused care before, but he is the most recent one.

Uh, no. There is no euthanasia in the bill. There are OPTIONAL counselling which talk about living wills in such, which are legal now, and are not euthanasia. But that's not what Glenn Beck told you, right?

I've been watching a few of these town halls and these people are beyond help. I saw one of these where a guy in the audience actually said that Rahm Emanuel's brother advocates aborting 2 year olds, and killing disabled people & the elderly. And then he asked if ACORN were the ones who were going to be advising Seniors on how to end their lives. He was dead serious. Of course he was reading all this nonsense from some email he got.

This is simple horrible and I have tried to tell people this would come before he was elected. We are all going to be old one day if we are lucky enough to make it that long here. This is entire section of the bill is simply an amendment to the Social Security Act. All it says is medicare will now cover end of life planning for those interested.

I'm sorry, but if someone is already on medicare then it's obvious they don't care too much about the government staying out of their health care.

The irony of this thing is I keep seeing seniors on medicare at these meetings decrying government run healthcare in 1 breath and insisting nobody touch their medicare in the other.

It does not matter if it is on their minds all the time. It's a fact that the government is the only entity that is sworn to protect Americans. No one can deny that because that is a fact. My health does affect my neighbors. Whether is a contagious disease like TB or using emergency rooms for primary care that makes our cost rise. People that go bankrupt due to medical bill, causing them to lose their homes and having foreclosures in the neighborhood that decreases the value of my home etc....

Curious that the bill NEVER mentions the family, NEVER mentions a Healthcare Directive and doesnt even suggest a conversation.

If the purpose was to simply update a Healthcare Directive that could easily be stated in the first sentence! Rep. Ellison fully understands that the practitioner, a counselor paid by the government, job is to reduce health care costs, not encourage patient to choose care?

It absolutely DOES mention directives. It absolutely DOES mention the family. And the practitioner is spelled out in the legislation as being either their physician or their nurse. Not to mention "consultation" (the term used in the bill) and "conversation" are synonymous terms.

Have you even bothered to read the legislation? Obviously not. It's easily available on the internet. THOMAS at the Library of Congress allows you to read the entire thing.

Foolish! What this representative is missing, or gives a perception of not disclosing, is in that part of bill there is no mention of care TREATING the disease for the elderly. The bill offers consultation (talk talk talk), a hotline for more talk, and "palliative care" . Which means give the patient morphine/painkillers but no REMEDY for disease. It appears Obamacare offers talking & painkillers to eldery, not treatment for whatever disease ails them. Pure "euthaniasia" just slowly.
