This really should actually be incorporated as the new opening for the film. In my mind it already is. It totally captures the whole essence of the story- and it truly completes the film. Utterly genius. Take note Ridley Scott.
(...from myspace) Earlier in the year (2011), Alcon Entertainment purchased the rights to Ridley Scott's cyberpunk neo-noir 'Blade Runner.' Big deal, right? It seems like every weekend we're given a rehashed CGI/3D version of an 80s classic. Why, my aunt Mabel is working on securing the rights for her remake of 'Howard the Duck.' Not this time. Alcon has brought in Ridley Scott—the director of the original—to spearhead a new 'Blade Runner' project, which they've promised will not be a remake.
I applaud the effort but nothing can come close to the original opening. It was as if being dropped in to the world as a participant. A gentle swell and then....LOS ANGELES...2019.
@Frederic94 How True, yet, the novel Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep is incredibly complex with various subtle and sublime themes as well as an in-congruent and randomly traced storyline. Nevertheless, it is a FACT that hollywood screws things up continuously and would only made an even worse remake whether it was named Blade Runner or anything else. Besides one cannot improve upon perfection and despite the obvious flaws in the original it is a perfect sci fi movie.
@Frederic94 But if a remake is made of Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep it is not really a remake but another adaptation. A big budget remake of Blade Runner will not use the novel as a source but Ridley Scott's film, because it has become a cult movie since the 90's and a remake is going to cash in on the cult reputation. The Blade Runner remake will have even less to do with PKD's story if not for some excentric idea, a producer or director went back to the book out of artistic reasons.
A paraphrase quotes from the movie Amadeus. The King is manipulated by his elite circles of musicians to criticize Mozart's work. King said "Mozart your work is magnificent except that here and there you have to many notes and you should get rid of some" Mozart reply "My work is art of perfection there are as many notes as needed. King says "Well you should remove some because its to much on the human ear." Mozart replied "Which notes do you have in mind your majesty?"
Why is it that people think just because of new technology now they are going to make things better? Why this urge to change the classic? There is a reason why this movie is a classic. That's like taking one of Leonardo Davinich paintings and adding mustache to Monalisa.
The opening scene to this film, man i get goosebumps everytime. The setting and the genius of Vangelis is absolutely breathtaking. I dont care what anyone says, one of the most influencial sci-fi films EVER made, and IMO the best ever....
The score should be done by roger waters and the storyline by Peter Jackson. These 2 would be the only who would give respect and class to the original work of art to me.I would love to see an interlude to the android's coming back to Earth.I would like a back drop and view the amazing things they had experienced and had seen that would drive them so hard to desire more life at all cost's.
Phenomenal work, Georot. Beautiful job indeed. Bladerunner is one of my favorite movies and I love this created intro. Well done.
As for a remake, it would be hard to top what is already made. In order for it to work, it would take a brilliant writer and director to pull it off. Interpretation is in the eye of the beholder. If it is possible, to go completely by the book (i.e. PKD)...not impossible, just improbable.
Amazing work! It captures the dark mood of the motion picture and the concept of what living in that world would be like. Love the references from Paradise Lost of The Fallen Angel cast out of Heaven(Roy Batty). Cane and Abel(Batty and Deckard) Tower of Babel(Man trying to reach the heights of God by creating artifical life). Thats what I interpret when I see it. Its a great piece of work. Congratulations.
Nice. But the thought of Hollywood trying to remake the greatest sci fi movie ever fills me with dread. How do you improve on something that is pure perfection?
@SocratesTheGadfly You took the words right out of my mouth. That's exactly why Warner realeased so many versions of Blade Runner; let's make more money on something guaranteed. A sequel or remake would be a waste of time and (our) money. This movie is a classic - just leave it alone.

Thank you so much georot! This is such a great title opening sequence. I think it does Blade Runner proud. Blade Runner after all these years, still one of my top 5 movies of all time.
@Dynaverse Do it right. Make it majestic. Characters have to be believable, get dirty, hair messed up. At this point, Vin Diesel comes to mind as Dekert.
@Dynaverse Interesting. If Dekert returns, if this is a PART 2, Vin Diesel seems ideal for the lead. The movie has to be epic, grand, majestic. No pretty-boys, please. The woman have to strong, tough. Not these tiny girls where every gester is a glamour pose. And as one commented on another youtube vid, make it to where it can be shown on IMAX. They should show Bladerunner on IMAX.
@Dynaverse Would you beleive if I told you I could raise Jesus from the dead? Your profile is totally blank. With the final cut Mr. Scott made it clear that Blade Runner as a project is over.
@Dynaverse I don't know about a year ago but now there are plans for a new Blade Runner movie with Ridley Scott off course, they are still nto sure if it's a prequel or sequel and they are reaching to Harrison Ford also

This is everything I love about modern motion graphics and title design. stunning. It's a shame the album you took the song from is impossible to find. you should re upload in HD!
You could never remake this film, you just cant replace Rutger Hauer. A mesmorising performance. He was portrayed as a baddie at the beginning of the film but in the end you realise he is good, he values life, each day,minute,second......and portrays that in an eloquent speech.
You are correct. However, there might be an exception when it comes to remakes......see, the Alien series is going to be rebooted.....by RIDLEY SCOTT himself. If, for some reason, Ridley Scott wanted to remake Blade Runner, then it can't be all too bad. But, as for Rutger Hauer, he has aged significantly, which will raise doubts as to making him reprise his role as Roy in Blade Runner.
True, Rutger Hauer played the part of Roy Batty amazingly. I feel that they could struggle to get another actor to replace and better that role played by him.
Really, one of the best Videos on youtube!!! It would have been such a remarkable intro for the BladeRunner movie. If there will be a remake, they can just use this video. The mythologic themes and the music fit together in a very harmonic way! Great!. 5/5
Also interesting that what k.dck thought of as a possible future is still very much a possible future for us today- no atomic lawnmower. Just straight up gritty real unreality.
You can't remake BR, simply because there is too much in it to try and copy. Any attempt would fail (and it would be the height of arrogance to assume BR could be improved upon; even Ridley Scott wouldn't try and remake his masterpiece).
The opening replicant definition (and subsequent Hades landscape shot) is from the Workprint.
The Final Cut is the real and proper Director's Cut; all other versions (incuding the Workprint) are "almost but not quite".
This is the music from Neo Sashimi, The sushi Club, japanenese ambient. There is hard to reach in a shops. I bought it in Berlin. This compilation - music and Gustave Dor Graphics - is amazing for me, is my favoutrite. I love it.
I like old fashioned sayings, such as "if it aint broke, dont fix it". The theatrical and directors cuts are the ones that count, the final cut is just an ego-boosting, money making exercise by Ridley - "I didnt get enough kudos first time round". Bladerunner was vastly underrated when first released.
The general theme of this film is reiterated beautifully in this. Blake images of Lucifer, Adam and Eve and the towar of Babal all lend to the issues expressed in the film of man's infantile and near-sighted abuse of powers beyond his own understanding (whilst not denigrading such powers or the use of such, it is one thing to be a self-disciplined scientist who uses whatever means critically, it is another to exploit a talent IMMEDIATELY after you discovered you had it)
I'm still trying to understand your use of shadows for credits and certain characters. How does this fit in the context of the blade runner film? What made you decide that approach for titles?
The old pictures are a very nice approach, though one or two of them seamed out of context.
i think i mentioned it somewhere above, the final release almost didn't have shadows for credits any more. my first idea was a life of shadows of its own, you don't know it's real or not, it's human or not, but i reduced the shadows, avoiding them to destroy the pictures in the back.
besides they make the characters more interesting, more complex.
would really like to see the final cut. this is wonderful cinematography, composition and musical accompaniment. you definitely have talent especially the use of the images of The Fall and other themes from religious sources. a true masterpiece if i ever saw one, the only exception is that joanna cassidy's name was left out ( you know she played the character zhora ) doh!!
Bladerunner is a fantastic film. Rutger Hauer outshone Harrison Ford in the film. Very charismatic performance and powerful actor. The whole cast were good and although Rutger, Roy Batty is seen as a baddie at the beginning of the film, at the end the poignant speech he makes is a emotional scene. The Vangelis music, perfection.
That was a mix by the electronica / ambient musician band "The Sushi Club" lead up by Tomio Tremmel, This particular tune is a segment of song "Daini No Sekai" off the album "Neo Sashimi", I was so impressed I bought the album.
I bought the album also, on iTunes. The funny thing is this particular track I can only listen to this part. This music will now always be associated to me anyway with the Blade Runner world.
Buy the DVD. So many versions - better yet, go rent the Final Cut - the TRUE directors cut, and the best version of the film. If you like it, buy it. I rented it first long ago and sine have bought multiple copies - you won't regret paying a few bucks for a rental...it's one of the best science fictions, if not THE best science fiction, ever filmed.
Blade Runner is by far the best sci fi movie ever made. It's depth and soul tingling soundtrack makes this the one all others are judged by...a masterpiece, brilliand and prophetic.
Wow. I am most impressed with you r creativeness. Its so unreal professioanly done that I hoped they hire you to create Opening sequences for all A grade films. Hell if they ever mnake a Bladerunner Sequel, with new casts and stuff, i hope they hire you and use THAT clip! :P
No shame Sir Georot...to err is human...I AM not surprised that this file has endured. Your work is awesome. I grew up in L.A. and there has never been a movie that has captured the vibe of L.A. like BR. The most real of the "feelings" captured in BR is the sense of desperation felt staring down at the lights of L.A. in the hills at night in the wind - a presence of lost dreams & sadness. So many came to be a Star, so few are ever chosen. BR is saturated in that sadness...nothing compares to BR.
Interesting comment. Whenever I see Ridley Scott's interpretation of L.A. I find myself oddly drawn to it. In the midst of the flames and the rain and the giant omnipresent adds and the desperation I keep seeing things of occasional beauty: like finding a precious crystal paperweight in a junk heap. The little restaurant where Ford eats at in his first scene . . . Ford's apartment . . . the prevalence of life upon the streets. Beauty survives even in such an environment.
well, it just means back to the drawing board or the editing room for an edited version with joanna cassidy's name inserted someone where. maybe find an image of a serpeant or a snake from the illustrations used for this masterpiece that complements bladerunner so well. and while you are at it add in a little dedication to Philip K. Dick
More human than human . . .

Hannibal Chew well - James Hong - somehow is still alive so he could reprise his role.
Edward James Olmos - seeing as he just finished getting everyone TO Earth on BSG, perhaps he could play the guy who finds the crashed shuttle.

Really, one of the best Videos on youtube!!! It would have been such a remarkable intro for the BladeRunner movie. If there will be a remake, they can just use this video. The mythologic themes and the music fit together in a very harmonic way! Great!. 5/5

Another innecesary remake? Please. For what?

WELL SAID. They would kill it if they did.
Its A CLASSIC

Blade Runner can't be remade. It's monumental for it's 80s impression of the future, but that's exactly what makes it timeless.
egretdingo 2 years ago 22
and that future is still very close at hand...
sagan1976 2 years ago 2
@egretdingo
Also interesting that what k.dck thought of as a possible future is still very much a possible future for us today- no atomic lawnmower. Just straight up gritty real unreality.
TheSquishee89 1 year ago
You can't remake BR, simply because there is too much in it to try and copy. Any attempt would fail (and it would be the height of arrogance to assume BR could be improved upon; even Ridley Scott wouldn't try and remake his masterpiece).
The opening replicant definition (and subsequent Hades landscape shot) is from the Workprint.
The Final Cut is the real and proper Director's Cut; all other versions (incuding the Workprint) are "almost but not quite".

If they were to attempt a remake of Blade Runner, they should something precisely like this. This video is perfect. :D

The music is a poor imitation of the original Vangelis.

i totally agree. Nobody could ever imitate vangelis but this doesn't try to, and the music fits absolutely perfectly.

grindtildeath 3 years ago
I like old fashioned sayings, such as "if it aint broke, dont fix it". The theatrical and directors cuts are the ones that count, the final cut is just an ego-boosting, money making exercise by Ridley - "I didnt get enough kudos first time round". Bladerunner was vastly underrated when first released.

I think you are a very clever person.A new and refreshing take on an already classic intro. Greatness awaits for you! Thankyou.
tiggertog 3 years ago 2
The general theme of this film is reiterated beautifully in this. Blake images of Lucifer, Adam and Eve and the towar of Babal all lend to the issues expressed in the film of man's infantile and near-sighted abuse of powers beyond his own understanding (whilst not denigrading such powers or the use of such, it is one thing to be a self-disciplined scientist who uses whatever means critically, it is another to exploit a talent IMMEDIATELY after you discovered you had it)
DChatc 3 years ago 2
Very good work, but I'd like to see the final version you mentioned, without many shadows ! Post it, would you ?
nicoagudelo 3 years ago
i will post it, but there's so much other work to do at the moment.
georot 3 years ago
I'm still trying to understand your use of shadows for credits and certain characters. How does this fit in the context of the blade runner film? What made you decide that approach for titles?
The old pictures are a very nice approach, though one or two of them seamed out of context.
filmmonk 3 years ago
i think i mentioned it somewhere above, the final release almost didn't have shadows for credits any more. my first idea was a life of shadows of its own, you don't know it's real or not, it's human or not, but i reduced the shadows, avoiding them to destroy the pictures in the back.
besides they make the characters more interesting, more complex.
georot 3 years ago
would really like to see the final cut. this is wonderful cinematography, composition and musical accompaniment. you definitely have talent especially the use of the images of The Fall and other themes from religious sources. a true masterpiece if i ever saw one, the only exception is that joanna cassidy's name was left out ( you know she played the character zhora ) doh!!

DeeDum66 3 years ago 2
Nice approach.
elmer1410 3 years ago
who made this version of the vangelis theme?
Hexblade 3 years ago 2
That was a mix by the electronica / ambient musician band "The Sushi Club" lead up by Tomio Tremmel, This particular tune is a segment of song "Daini No Sekai" off the album "Neo Sashimi", I was so impressed I bought the album.
proadmin1 3 years ago 6
I bought the album also, on iTunes. The funny thing is this particular track I can only listen to this part. This music will now always be associated to me anyway with the Blade Runner world.

Buy the DVD. So many versions - better yet, go rent the Final Cut - the TRUE directors cut, and the best version of the film. If you like it, buy it. I rented it first long ago and sine have bought multiple copies - you won't regret paying a few bucks for a rental...it's one of the best science fictions, if not THE best science fiction, ever filmed.

JeffreyPaxton76 3 years ago
yes, shame on me.
georot 3 years ago
No shame Sir Georot...to err is human...I AM not surprised that this file has endured. Your work is awesome. I grew up in L.A. and there has never been a movie that has captured the vibe of L.A. like BR. The most real of the "feelings" captured in BR is the sense of desperation felt staring down at the lights of L.A. in the hills at night in the wind - a presence of lost dreams & sadness. So many came to be a Star, so few are ever chosen. BR is saturated in that sadness...nothing compares to BR.
JeffreyPaxton76 3 years ago
Interesting comment. Whenever I see Ridley Scott's interpretation of L.A. I find myself oddly drawn to it. In the midst of the flames and the rain and the giant omnipresent adds and the desperation I keep seeing things of occasional beauty: like finding a precious crystal paperweight in a junk heap. The little restaurant where Ford eats at in his first scene . . . Ford's apartment . . . the prevalence of life upon the streets. Beauty survives even in such an environment.
Setebos 3 years ago
yes, shame on you!! ha ha ha
well, it just means back to the drawing board or the editing room for an edited version with joanna cassidy's name inserted someone where. maybe find an image of a serpeant or a snake from the illustrations used for this masterpiece that complements bladerunner so well. and while you are at it add in a little dedication to Philip K. Dick
